I'm Back!

Hello!

I'm back, I know it's been a while.

If you follow me, hi, wow. I can't believe you are still here. Thank you. If you don't my name is Katie but you can call me Mac. I've been sort of on a hiatus for a little (several years) while.

There are a few reasons for that, depression and lack of belief in my art and it's value being the main factors. Also working on boats made focusing on art hard. But with a little therapy, and taking time off to focus on art as a career has helped a lot.

I've already been posting to instagram but I thought I should start posting here as well.

While I am focusing on nature drawings, I'm also going to try taking commisioned work for dnd characters, fandom oc's and maybe even some book cover illustrations.

I'm really happy to be back, stay tuned for more art, and if you want you can follow me on instagram as well.

The Call of Cthulu

I won't lie my first thought while making this was to create something that would horrify H.P. Lovecraft, and I think I succeeded.

This is actually part of a larger series that I'm working on of making monster romance book covers. Why monster romance as a subject? Well romance is one of the most popular fiction genres, and the art styles that have dawned their covers I think says a lot about how we view sex/sexuality and romance in society. More importantly how people react to them. Judging a book by its cover.

Jk, this is a piece i've been fiddling with for a minute. It's part of a monster romance book cover series. I'm calling this one the call of Cthulu. The concept was born out of my love of all things romance and monsters and the need to make H.P. Lovecraft roll over in his grave.

Honestly I've been fascinated by 1970s/80s/90s Mass Market Paperback romance covers. I'd really like to do a series of videos diving into the history of them trying to figure out how we got to our current style of romance covers. If you'd be interested let me know! Honestly like 3 people telling me to do it would motivate me.

This is my character Clarence from my DnD group, he did some pretty cool things last session so I was inspired to draw him. He is currently a level 3 Cleric following the church of help. He has a blink dog named Spot who is his best friend, and he always believes in doing your best.

Oh I LOVE this. Conservation is an art unto itself and can completely change the way we look and interpret artwork! I love the choices made here. The lighter colour and bigger and fuller skirt really brighten the statue and add something to the silhouette that makes her immediately recognizable as a little dancer.
