sliding her hands out so they were flat on the table in front of her, close to her chest, she rest her chin on the back of her palms. “i can’t believe we were ever that bad, half of us became teachers we couldn’t have been that awful.” looking up at theo from her spot on the table, she gave him tired smile, “i thought reading lord of the flies was going to be fun, but i don’t think they actually understand it.” tipping her head over so it rest on her arm, she reached her now freed hand over to theo, squeezing his wrist gently in greeting. there was something about her friend that she absolutely adored and would go to the ends of the earth to protect, his happiness meaning more to her than words could even begin to explain. “how’ve you been? between work and wes.”

his eyes trained on the movements from the blonde across the table, taking note of how tired she looked. “i doubt we were that bad. at least not all of us.” there was a select few that didn’t fit into that category. not every one of them had grown up to be the adults they were supposed to be. “lord of the flies? you’d think your students would be invested. it’s a great book. teenagers these days don’t care unless it’s on instagram or snapchat. something that is going to benefit their perfect lives.” he let out a sigh as he felt her hand on his wrist. there was something about blair that calmed him down. he wasn’t sure when it started but she kept him grounded in the chaos that was sometimes his life. he leaned back in the chair, letting a shrug run off his shoulders. “everything is good. things at home are good. work is good. we stay busy.”

“does this make me hagrid, yer a wizerd, harry.” he said with a deeper tone, his smile growing with every word. wesley could amuse himself easily which was clear any time he opened his mouth. a fight could be had that he only spoke sometimes to hear his own voice, or stupid thoughts, aloud. but what it boiled down to was he wanted to see theo’s smile. “yeah, yeah,” he nodded off, unable to stop the laugh that left him as his hand fell to rest on theo’s hip, thumb gently tucking between one of his belt loops to keep him close. their small fight so on brand for them his voice didn’t even waver from the sweet tone. “no, no. definitely not, last time we went we walked right by the paints. don’t you know by now you say jump and I say how high? would never put one of your requests on the back burner.” he was lying, there were plenty of things theo asked that seemed to slip wesley’s mind. stealing a couple more kisses between his words, wesley smiled wide before leaning back, his head falling in the process. “yeah it’s pretty fuckin annoying. but I think I got something that’s gonna finally surprise you.” he said, lifting his head once more to look at theo with a wide smile. “I’m definitely winning valentines day this year.”

“i’m not sure it does. we’ve never roleplayed harry potter. i’m not sure how i feel about it.” his smile couldn’t be removed from his face in the presence of his fiance. it was one of the best times of his life right now. “don’t roll your eyes at me, lloyd.” his hands lifted to rest on wes’ arms gently, basking in the warmth from the other’s body. he was used to the bickering with wes. it was one of their favorite past times. it kept their relationship interesting and on their toes. it was never really anything serious but they definitely disagreed on most things but they both agreed they loved on another. “that’s not true. i made a point to say that i loved a few of the colors before we moved on to the light fixtures. maybe you’ve hit your thumb too hard too many times that you’ve forgotten.” a smirk crossed his lips. “i hope not but you do have a short attention span so it’s understandable.” every kiss, whether short or long meant something to theo. it meant that someone truly cared about him. “oh, is it? i think you’ll think of something good for us. it’s your turn, after all.” his eyes glanced up to meet those of wes. “you do know that i have to close at the bar that night, right? i gave my regular bartender the night off.”

“after i got out of the house, i knew i had to go back for wes. he had been there for many years in my life and i couldn’t leave him behind. if only he had listened to me the first time, we wouldn’t be stuck here now. being dead knowing that he’s in the same house is better than being alive without him. even if we don’t get along all the time.”

“how’d you do that?” he mused, playing as if suddenly there was no pain at all. “you’re a witch, aren’t you? or is it wizard.” he paused as he mulled it over, though his thoughts snapped back to theo alone. “you only win because i let you.” wes tried, though the truth was a bit more foggy than that, the majority of the time theo being the one who was in the right, but wesley was stubborn. he had been softening for the other, though. “and so are you.” he smiled, welcoming the other’s warmth. there was nothing like the love he felt for theo, everything about the younger man was enticing, drawing him deeper and deeper in. “a month? no- it’s only been a week, you just mentioned it.” that wasn’t exactly fact, but he believed it. “just for me?” wes repeated, leaning in to press a soft kiss against his lips. “always know exactly what I want to hear.”

“it’s the magic touch of a kiss. makes everything feel better instantly.” he shrugged. he didn’t make the rules but he knew it would get a smile on that face he loved. “wizard, i believe. unless you want to be a witch. i don’t think you have to pick just one.” he wasn’t too worried about the difference between the two. not when wes was standing right in front of him. they had gone through many fights over the years but theo always seemed to win most of them. he didn’t back down at all. “not really but i’ll agree to disagree for now.” a grin moved over his lips. he hoped that would satisfy the other male now. he’d have to hear about it later, though. their relationship hadn’t always been easy but theo wouldn’t redo it even if he tried. his eye brows furrowed a bit as he heard wes speak once more, shaking his head furiously. “it’s been longer than that. every single time we went to the hardware store i mentioned something about finding paint for the dining room. you just weren’t listening.” wes was so frustrating sometimes. “just for you.” he grinned once more, lifting a hand to rest on wes’ face gently. “i kind of know you pretty well, babe.” his eyes closed briefly to enjoy the kiss.

“listen, you’re the doctor here, if you think it needs to go, then it needs ta go.” he smiled, eyes dipping to the headphone before quickly snapping back to meet theo’s gaze. “oh so you want to fight me, already?” he asked leaning back a bit as he looked down at him. “if we were beyonce and jay z, you’re beyonce every time. own it.” so much happened between them through the years, and while they started as friends, bonding over their own separate love interests, it wasn’t until wesley hit the deepest low he ever felt did things shift and change. his eyes opened to see the most important person had always been there, trying to hold him up. “can you blame me?” he mused, giving him a soft tug to come in closer. “might vaguely remember that, maybe the paint fumes are getting to my head. I don’t know,” he hummed his free hand moving to hold theo’s chin. “but I think you’ve been in there long enough.”

“then it needs to go.” he lifted the hand to press a soft kiss where it was red. “that should make it feel better.” his eyes glanced back to meet wes’. “i’m always up for a fight. you know that. i usually win.” he laughed softly. “i’ll take that. beyonce is pretty beautiful.” he wouldn’t take back any of those moments, good or bad. they lead them to where they were now. engaged, living together and happy. theo craved happiness his entire life. he was happy to find it with someone that was his best friend. “no, i suppose not.” theo took a step closer, letting his hand rest on wes’ waist to hold him closer. “ah, right. you’re finally painting the room i’ve been bugging you about all month.” his eyes glanced up to meet wes’ once more. “is that right? i could take a break. just for you.”

“got ‘em.” wes said, mostly to himself as theo finally came into view. his smile consumed his entire face as his gaze settled on the man. “please, hurry, before I come to my senses,” he held his hand out to theo, but with his next sentence wes couldn’t stop himself from gently pushing the other with the same hand he claimed was wounded. “fuck off we get it, you’re hot and out of my league.” the words rang with some sincerity through the clearly playful tone, there was a piece of him, a large piece of him that believed through everything, theo should have sought out better. “alright truth time?” wes asked, his smile growing as his hand fell to take the other’s, lacing their fingers. “It’s not even that hurt, just wanted to see you.”

one of his hands pulled the remaining headphone from his ear, letting the cord hang from the shirt he was wearing. he couldn’t help but return the smile that wes was throwing his way. “maybe a butter knife will do the trick.” theo took the injured hand in his own, giving it a glance over before shaking his head once more. “it must be killing you if you’re willing to let it go so quickly, babe.” his hand grabbed onto wes’ wrist, not letting him nudge too hard. “shut up. i’m not even that hot.” his feelings ran deep for the male before him. it had been a long time before they became as close as they were now. tons of fighting. tons of love. he was happy to be with wes. truly. “i knew you were lying. you just wanted attention.” his hand squeezed wes’ gently. “i told you earlier when you were half asleep that i’d be in the garage all day.”

despite the fact that the school had given everyone the day off, blair still found herself sitting alone in a booth at the diner, several piles of paper surrounding her and a basket of fries. head down, attempting to read another reading reflection her students had written about ‘lord of the flies’ where all they wrote about was the man parachuting from the plane and how the boys thought it was a beast. movement from the other side of the table cause her to draw her eyes upwards, a smile making its way onto her face in greeting. “you couldn’t have come at a better time honestly, if i had to keep reading this i might cry.”

the night before had been long and thankfully theo had the morning off to regroup and get a few things done in the garage. his body was still exhausted after getting a reasonable amount of sleep and to top it off, either himself or wes had forgotten to get more coffee at the grocery store over the weekend. he found himself pulling into a spot in front of his favorite diner as he ran errands before hitting the bar for the rest of the day. upon entering, he noticed the blonde in her usual booth but proceeded to order his drink and a pastry. with everything in hand, he moved towards the table, taking a seat to get her attention. “that bad, huh? high schoolers these days.” he said, as if he wasn’t in high school not even ten years ago. “what was the assignment this week?”

their house was large, that much was known but it also echoed which is why after the tenth time yelling theo’s name, wesley finally stumbled his way up the stairs to their bedroom. “theooooo,” he continued, only to find he wasn’t there. “alright you fuck,” wesley smiled, walking down the stairs. “hide and seek isn’t cute, c’mon I seriously need your help I am wounded,” hardly was he wounded, he hit his thumb with the hammer and now it was just barely bleeding. still the pain was there and he earned some sort of TLC. “think I need to go to the hospital, what if I die? oh no you’re gonna be single on valentines… hurry, come out.”

taking advantage of the afternoon off, theo had been tinkering away on one of his cars in the garage since waking up. it wasn’t until wes’ voice resonated over his head phones that he heard his name being called. his head shook as he pulled himself away from putting on a stubborn belt for the motor. “wesley.” he said, grabbing a towel from his work bench as he moved into the kitchen from the adjoining door. “wounded? i guess we better grab a saw and cut it off.” his blue eyes rolled as he moved closer to inspect the damage. “i doubt i would be single on valentine’s day. i am a catch, after all.” not really. there was no one else that he wanted to be with than the man before him. “let me grab you some ice for your thumb. i think we might be able to avoid going to the ER this time.”
