The Atolls are a garage-rock band from Glendora, a suburb of Los Angeles. The group consists of Chris Barela (drums) & Daniel Martin (guitar, vocals). They write, record & perform their own brand of "cottage cheese" music. This tumblr is named for their second EP. Unsurprisingly, I can’t copy the rather simple rhythm, so I’m sticking to a 4/4 swung eighth note beat.

Also, this song is long! I guess I never realized it.

We've been invited to play at our old stomping grounds, 72 North. Plenty of good bands and it's all for an excellent cause. One of our first times playing here, we actually received a parking ticket. This isn't kismet. It's payback.

We are mixing our fourth single.

"SHE'S TURNING GREEN / CHLORINE" will be available before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, we are recording a concept record. (See above photo.) All of the songs are new, most of which we have never played live.

I love when I find local bands that I find interesting. The Atolls have been knocking around for a couple years now and continue to surprise me with each single release. Their stuff has gotten more varied and “Kitten" has a real bluesy influence to it, while “Disco grins" shows this two man outfit has a pretty wide ranging musical catalogue to draw from. Overall a really exciting new development from a band to watch!

THE ATOLLS

                     They play what they call “cottage cheese" rock music. The Atolls hail from the suburbs of Los Angeles.

"Disco Grins" is a dance version of an earlier song titled "Chelsea Grins." Recorded in a living room.

We were invited to perform on an excellent YouTube Channel called Kilson Street.

Based out of Santa Ana, the guys were very hospitable, and we had a blast recording two crowd-pleasers, "Older Nazi Boyfriends" and "Tyrannosaurus Rex."
