Welcome to The Bunny's Code Blog!

Hello there! My name is Techno Dragon, and I'm working on a Five Night's At Freddy's: Security Breach animation project. I've been documenting my progress primarily on YouTube, but I wanted to have another place where I could put up smaller updates and share work that I've made that are better presented in a format other than just videos.

The Bunny's Code will be created by myself as I want to use it as an experience of learning and expression. By documenting my progress, I aim to show people how these kinds of things are made, even if it's just by one person. It's going to be less than glamorous, but that's kind of the point! I hope it entertains and educates folks. (Yes, this means that there are spoilers for this project all over this blog, but who's to say that it will all stay the same from beginning to end? Cuz it won't!)

Had an epiphany about this project yesterday.

I have a big list of jokes and gags n silly stuff I had planned for it, and what I wanted to do was write a story around them to sprinkle them in. I couldn't for the life of me. It just wasn't working out. That's when I realized: This project doesn't wanna be an animation, it wants to be a comic strip. Go figure.

I think I went through all stages of grief before accepting the fact that Gregory nor Cassie are the main characters of this project.

It is Freddy and the Daycare Attendant. I did not expect this turn of events but the more I think about it and the more things I write down the more I realize that these two just have way more to do and talk about than the other two. I think I'll roll with it!

I have this other animated film I'm working on, and I don't want TBC to look like it style-wise, I'd rather they both look unique. I just had an idea of making TBC look like it wad drawn with crayons and I think that might be cute!

I just had an idea that is definitely bad but it sounds fun so I just might try it:

I'm struggling to put together a coherent script, but I find that I actually do pretty good with flow if I just... improvise. The only thing is I don't exactly do it chronologically, I just start practicing whatever pieces of the story come to mind.

So basically the plan is what if I improvised a bunch of pieces of the story and then wrote parts to connect them together later? I could polish things up as needed. It'd certainly beat me writing a script that's supposed to last like an hour and then constantly reworking it cuz I'm indecisive af (looking at my other project on here.)

I'll give it a shot.

Happy FNAF Week/Month!

I just wanted to pop in and let you all know that funnily enough I actually very likely won't be putting out anything special this week. MAYBE this month, I am not sure yet. I'm currently in a position where I am almost finished with the visuals of the first part of my "little" side project, and I'm very determined to get it done soon. I have a big commitment later this month and will then be unable to work for some time in September, so I would like to wrap up my WIP. I will say, about the test scene for TBC, I completed the script for it and recorded my progress on that. I plan on recording storyboarding, animating, voice acting, audio editing, etc. on it as well, I just don't know when. Though I don't wanna discuss it much just yet, I'll reveal this about it: It's just Freddy and Sun making a joke that I could not possibly think of a place to fit in the actual project. It'll probably be like 30 seconds long.

I've been working on a smaller test/experimental project of the same medium as TBC to help me prepare for it since it's a big commitment that has ground that I'm not super familiar with, and one thing I've discovered is that I spend a wild amount of time making backgrounds even for those with minimal detail. Of course this led to the thought of "What if you just took screenshots from the game" but I feel like those would look like shit. However, I'm not opposed to the idea of using them as a reference that I sort of trace over and color so that it fits the style better. I do feel like doing the former would make the characters look out of place... and would just look ugly considering sizing and orientation of the backgrounds. Also they'd be kind of a bitch to get in-game.

What if instead of making a "test scene" because I don't have a fully fleshed out plan for this project, I make a joke scene that I could not possibly find any space to fit in the actual final version?

Yesterday I tried to fix my Glamrock Freddy design so that he looks more fluffy and cuddly like a bear and less... sleek. I still need to fix it some more but it's going in the right direction!

So you wouldn't know it, but I actually recently went through with a very successful large project, and I'm technically still working on it, but it made me realize that I should probably take a break from long-term projects in a sense. However, I'm not actually doing that in a technical sense, I just need to have smaller things in between them. With that in mind, I began working on a smaller project that actually kind of works the same way this one does, just on a much smaller scale of course. This one is interesting however because I plan on releasing it in parts... wouldn't it make sense to release the larger project in parts too? Of course when it's all done I'll put together one big release of it, but I'll think about this. Feel free to give me your input though!

Lately I've been thinking and tinkering a lot with voice acting and the audio editing that comes with it. I've learned some things I can do with both Audacity and Reaper to help with the latter portion of it (i.e. noise removal and effects) but of course I've also been working on these characters' voices (and then some, particularly something that kinda rhymes with "then some" but that's besides this project.)

Regarding the characters' voices, I'd say I feel pretty good with most of the main ones. What I've been struggling a lot with lately is making particular voices sound different enough. There's some issues between characters like Roxanne and Vanessa, but before I even got to that, I was tackling the voices of Cassie and Gregory. My voice has quite a bit of range and is very androgynous, which is why I'm really able to do this project at all, but making two childrens' voices sound different was something I was really struggling with... until I had a thought:

What if I made Cassie non-verbal?

I think that this would actually be a good idea not just for the sake of making my life a tiny bit easier, but also because it's something that would really show Cassie's history with the place and the animatronics. With them being aware of her disability, it would show their relationship and possibly even open some doors for some interesting interractions.

I'll work with this idea some more and do some more research!

Regarding @as-cruel-as-you-comic and @the-bunnys-code

They are still alive and well! BUT! Because both of them exist simultaneously (meaning I literally would not make this chage if only one of them existed) I'm gonna be "nerfing" them a bit. Here are the major changes:

As Cruel As You will no longer be a webcomic, but instead a frequently illustrated written work. This means that instead of drawing every little thing that happens and telling the story in comic form, the bulk of the details will be written in text, and that text will be accompanied with illustrations when I feel it is appropriate. The illustrations won't be few and far between, there will be lots! Still, it's SIGNIFICANTLY a lot less than a comic. I will be uploading it here and on AO3 once I figure out how to input images. I was going to make a transcribed version of ACAY on AO3 for accessibility purposes anyway, so this works out. Yes, it will still be mostly in black and white. Color will be used when necessary for storytelling. (Can text color change on AO3? Hmmm...)

The Bunny's Code will go from being fully animated to partially animated. It will most likely resemble animatics (perhaps with a few more frames) for the most part, but will have some shots fully animated depending on the scene.

Basically, for both of these projects, the changes will be utilized based on the scenes that they are portraying. Essentially, I'm playing it by ear, therefore I can't really give a precise answer as to how many illustrations ACAY will have or much of TBC will be fully animated. Either way, this is being done so that these projects will have an easier time coexisting while still getting their point across. As I always say, use your limitations to your advantage!
