Concerning the Twitter crash and burn, there's legit people encouraging others not to engage with creators trying to promote things so that Tumblr doesn't become commercialized, and I have to make something very clear:

A small creator who is encouraging people to interact with/share their stuff, trying to make their art/writing/etc known because they want a livable wage when they have NOWHERE ELSE they can turn to anymore and are trying to succeed in an internet that makes it near impossible for them is -never- gonna be the same thing as a celebrity shoving adds into your face to buy their newest clothing brand.

Don't encourage capitalism but do encourage the artists and writers that provide you most of their content for FREE and just want to pay bills like anyone else and already deal with being buried in the algorithm or having their art stolen and reposted.

Just to summarize: the “air freshener” “law” is an excuse, it was written to give cops a legally justified “reason” to racially profile black people. I can guarantee you that if you look at the number of people who have been pulled over for “air freshener violations,” it will be overwhelmingly, disproportionately black people. Something that maybe isn’t as clear as it should be because we’ve had to devote so much time and effort just to draw attention to the fact that non-binary genders exist in the first place is that “non-binary” is not a single third gender. It’s just an extremely vague umbrella term for any gender that doesn’t fit neatly into the exclusively male/exclusively female binary, just like “binary” is an umbrella term that includes male and female.

This is why it’s always a little puzzling for me to hear people write off specific non-binary genders as “microlabels”. You clearly wouldn’t call binary genders like male or female “microlabels”, so why would you call non-binary genders like agender, androgyne, bigender, pangender, genderfluid, or any other “microlabels”? It’s the same concept.

Imagine how you’d feel if you were forced to use a vague umbrella term like “binary” to refer to yourself instead of male or female. Imagine if everyone kept telling you that you were only calling yourself a man or a woman for “attention” or to “feel special”. Bare minimum, you’d be annoyed. “Just call yourself binary, microlabels like ‘man’ and ‘woman’ are divisive! You’re making a mockery of the rest of us!” I doubt you’d enjoy people regularly saying this kind of thing about you.

Yet this is exactly what non-binary people often hear for the simple act of giving a name to their gender. And because the language for who we are doesn’t exist in common use, we either have to repurpose existing language in metaphorical or poetic ways or make up shit wholecloth. So, trust me, we get that it’s going to sound strange to you, but I promise we aren’t just sitting around inventing new genders to be trendy or pretentious or for attention or to feel special; literally the opposite! We just want to have what you have always had: the language to describe who you are.

So, hello. I'm using my platform here now to inform about what's happening in my country. I'm from Cali, Colombia. The city that's been burning for 5 days now and being massacred by its own government.

We need your help to spread awareness on this. As of yet, there hasn't been a lot of international news coverage about it, and our own news are too biased in favor of the government to be of any help.

How did it all start?

On April 28, a national strike was called for people to raise their voices against a tax and health reforms proposed by president Iván Duque, during an economic and social crisis exacerbated by the covid-19 pandemic.

Among other things, this reform wanted to tax us for funeral services (during a pandemic). They also wanted to increase the price of food and water, when most of the population has a salary that does not allow a family to live with dignity. Moreover, another nefastous health reform has yet to be taken down.

But the response of the national government to these protests has been to deploy military forces against the civilian population. A violent, disproportionate, and arbitrary action that incurs in serious human rights violations. My city, Santiago de Cali, has been one of the most affected places. During the night hours of the last few days, in different areas of the city, the police and the mobile anti-riot squad (ESMAD) have burst into peaceful demonstrations attacking with firearms, tear gas, and leaving a balance of dead and wounded that has not yet been counted. They have also captured many demonstrators, some of whose whereabouts are unknown.

My state is threatening the lives of the Colombian population in full view of the world. Please, don't let them silence us!

Ok, so you know how when someone says “Picture this” and then describes a scene to you? I always thought that was just a saying. When I was around 8 or 9 years old and in daycare the teacher had us all close our eyes and began doing some sort of guided meditation and then we were asked to describe what we saw. Everyone in the group described something. When my turn came around I said that I saw nothing and was told that I obviously did it wrong.  And that was that. I thought I had a defective imagination and went on with my life, completely forgetting about the experience.  Recently I found an article describing a newly coined term Aphantasia. It was the first time someone put to words what my ‘minds eye’ is like. Completely blind.  “Neat” I thought and I filled out a questionnaire. The subject came up with my mother because she was asking me to picture something in my mind and I told her I couldn’t. She was BAFFLED. Her reaction was so extreme that I almost felt bad for bringing it up. She was asking me things like “How do you even function” and “Your life must be so sad.” Apparently a mental image is really important to those who have one.  For me, it’s not. I remember things, I don’t just leave the room and suddenly I’ve forgotten where everything is, Aphantasia does not effect your memory. You just don’t have a mental picture. When I see my sister I know who I’m looking for, but when she’s not in the room I cannot conjure up her image in my head. This is the hardest part about trying to descirbe it. People seem to assume that “No Mental image” = No memory.  People who have aphantasia can describe a room they just left, or how their loved ones look, we just don’t think visually and for someone who does it’s a very baffling concept.  From what I’ve read, approximately 2% of the population may have from this. I imagine, much like myself, they didn’t even realize that anything was different about them. This is not a disability, I don’t even think it’s limiting in any way, it’s just the way our brains are wired. We recall things differently and process information and it is really, REALLY not a big deal. At most it’s an interesting fact.  So if you have aphantasia and haven’t realized it, don’t worry. It’s all good.  If someone tells you they have aphantasia…..Well…Just don’t react like my mother.
