I think a lot of people complaining about House of the Dragon in comparison to Fire & Blood are disingenuous and just watched a few youtube videos about the lore while taking GRRM's comments on the show at face value.

The book itself is written in such a way that the record of historical events that transpired are inherently biased to one party or the other and even hazy. It almost feels like Martin is trying to say that historical context is entirely subjective upon the historian, which makes the debacle with the show even more meta.

The show is much more focused on the granular aspects like character psychology and relationships and has fleshed them out so much that even the people that hate the show seem to forget that almost none of that is actually in the book.

There IS things that are different, but most of the time those differences are done because of the necessity of producing a show (too many child actors, budget), or making a change to better serve the presentation. There is a few changes I haven't liked, but to say it is a complete failure of an adaptation feels like nonsense.

i must say, i am a huge fan of when a book is in the middle of a very exciting plot containing many interesting problems when out of nowhere for a few pages it's like, "hey by the way, real quick, here's a detailed explanation of the city's water filtration system! i'm telling you this for a reason and you should worry about it. anyway! haha okay back to the plot" and you just get to be Scared for a while
