Maria nodded, gaining a stern look. “You better be careful with those ‘independent’ scientist. Untrustworthy, the lot of them.” She put finger quotations around the word independent. “Not to mother you, I’ve just seen a lot of shady folks call themselves that.”

Matt nodded. “I found the guy thinking he might be causing trouble, but we worked something out that was mutually beneficial for us both.” He paused. “I do like to keep an eye out for other troublemakers though.”

She decides to ignore the moral quandary of that, Not like she had any sort of moral high ground. Ever. "Funny how those things work out. But-" Maria shuffles and shakes her hand again.

"Its nice to know someone else is looking out for this poor area,-" She absentmindedly kicked a lone soda can. " I tried but, I'm not exactly the strongest-" Her grin takes a slightly wicked look. "I can imagine the scars kinda help you in that field though." her hand is almost healed now, its still a light fleshy pink and somewhat bloody, however there is no noticeable gore.

Sammy checked herself over before shaking her head. “No, I don’t think I am.” She paused. “Are you okay?”

Serene signed in relief from her chair. “Oh thank goodness! I was scared I might have hurt you.” She pushed the brakes down and held them in position. “I’m quite alright, but I’m really sorry for running into you! This place can be so hard to navigate at times.”

Sammy shook her head. “I’m okay. Thank you though.” She paused. “I was looking for my dad. Do you know where he is? He’s been gone a while and I got bored.”

She frowned and looked around. "I can't say I do, Do you know where he went? Did he say anything?" She took a moment to look over the younger girl. Serene wasn't sure how she had gotten in the locked building but she wasn't going to question it. No need to question a random person.

Plague Doctor Starter Sentences

There’s a plague in town, we need a doctor! Have you seen that mask? Who is that? You are no doctor! You’re but another trick for us to pay more taxes! Please! Can you save my child? For a coin, I can guarantee you better treatment. Many have fallen victim to this ill disease, for there is only so little a man can do. This is beyond the skill of men to cure. This is a matter of God now. This village is dying! You must do something! I will pay you great sums of money should you aid me in these times of despair. Many are dead, more will follow. No medicine can cure this. I have prayed and prayed, and I have given all I had left to the Lord! Do you even know what you are doing with that medicine?! Are you certain your remedies will be effective.  This new remedy should prove helpful. Why the mask, sir doctor? My lord, I wish to hold these people for examination. They may aid us in finding a cure. Your practice is built on lies and deceit!  How are you so certain your medicine will cure us all? I do not hold power over life and death. With that beak you look like a servant of death rather than a bringer of hope! Beyond all vials, prayer yet remains the best medicine. Are those leeches?! It is best you flee this town while you still can.  I sense the disease in you. Bring me your sick and wounded. Plague is caused by nothing but evil spirits! Your potions won’t work! I can assure you, the plague is here! It is my duty in life to rid the world of this disease, as my cure is most effective. The plague costs more lives than I can save. She nods at him, “Nice to meet you too, Officer. Not pain, necessarily, I just figured you wouldn’t want to touch healing skin.” She shivers and makes a disgusted face. Maria took note of the mass amount of scarring on him, one of her projects came to mind. “Even after everything, the feeling of healing skin is gross. Especially wet burnt skin. Too squishy and hard at the same time.” She made a fake gagging motion.

Matt shook his head. “My skin doesn’t heal without aid. Even then, some scars haven’t gone away.” He paused. “I’ve had to deal with that, burns I mean. But I didn’t feel much with it. Either way, I‘m sorry if I disgusted you.”

That peaked her interest . “Oh don’t worry! You didn’t.” She shook her hands again. “Neuropathy, Probably, I can’t feel much at the moment…But speaking about it. If you don’t mind me asking, what did you use to force your skin to heal? Not to mention heal so well it got rid of some of your scars..” She trailed off. Marie moved to rest one hand over her heart.

“I see.” He paused, unsure if he should really talk about the reagent. He decided to be vague for the moment. “It was something an independent scientist developed for another purpose. I did him a big favor and he gave me a supply in return when he figured out the effect it had on me.”

She took another sip, way too calm for someone apparently in grave danger. “I caused a momentary quarantine at my lab. Nothing big, just some extra beakers falling.” She took her other hand out of her pocket and shook it.

It looked like it was in the middle stages of healing a burn wound, the edge of the wound already turning a light pinkish color. She continued, “it hurt no one else so I figured it’d be fine but then I realized that any accidents in the lab ping her. And, well..ran away.” She smiled. “I’m a dead creature walking.”

Matt took note of her injured hand. “I’m guessing that’s a chemical burn from whatever was in the beakers?” He paused. “I’d hope that she’d be more concerned for your health than angry. Plenty of time for lectures once you’ve healed.” He went quiet, sighing softly. “I could ask her to take it easy on you, if you want.”

She nodded, “my hero, that’s would be wonderful.”

She waved the hand slightly in a ‘ehh’ motion. “She normally would be more concerned but for the others. I was alone and to be honest, I don’t think aura cares when I get hurt anymore. Not when it’s dealed with so fast.” She smiles. “I’m Maria, head scientist and resident healer. Nice to meet you” She reaches out her hand before quickly changing to the other hand.

Matt chuckled at her comment. “No problem.” He nodded. “That makes sense.” He paused, watching as she switched hands before taking the new one offered to shake. “Officer Cordell. It’s good to meet you, Maria. And you don’t have to worry about your hand. I’ve got more scars than I can count, other people’s don’t bother me. Unless you were concerned about any pain?”

They nodded, happy with her pancake choices, apparently.

“Oh, I know him. Miss Serene told me about him. She said I should go to him instead of the others. Something about special people need special needs.” They shrug and start to add a sun to their drawing. “ Mom says people like us should just go to her, Miss Anna or Miss Lea.” They nodded again, a habit apparently.

Sammy smiled at hearing that her father was known and that someone thought highly of him. “My dad does try to help people.” She paused. “They can probably help too.” She knew that people had different talents and abilities, so it made sense they could help indifferent ways. She picked out a few colored pencils and began drawing on her sheet of paper.

They looked up before bringing their drawing up, the sheet covering with their hands. “I’m drawing Miss Anna! I’m going to give it to her. As a gift!” They spoke excitedly, tone bouncing up and down. they had spent so much time on it! Hopefully no one noticed that they gave her the wrong colored hair.

Sammy smiled. “Oh, that’s neat! I think my dad talked about her.” She looked over the drawing, unaware of the mistake. “She must be really nice.”

They nodded. "Yep! Super. She makes good pancakes too." They nodded to themselves before lowering it and reaching out to hand her a piece of paper. " Wanna draw? Who's your dad?" Max nudged the cup of colored pencils toward the middle of them.

“That’s really cool! Pancakes are nice, especially with strawberries or blueberries on them.” She paused turning her attention to the offered paper. “Sure.” She carefully took the piece of paper and began looking over the colored pencils. “His name’s Matt. He’s kind of a policeman.”

Sammy grew curious about the person in front of her. They looked like they were dressed up like a ghost and coloring something. That sounded like fun in her mind. She carefully approached the person. “What are you drawing?”
