Some fight stills with Chance. I really like the idea of Calli and Chance having a date night, and it’s just them in the gym, cutting at one another with extremely sharp and pointy metal sticks. It makes me smile.

And the next day, Chance and his son go at it like the other stole the last Dr. Pepper out the fridge.

The final confrontation between two of my favorite characters: Chance and Kiyon Swordmaker.

Kiyon is a world-hopper. A former assassin, he jumps from world to world, helping where he can and leaving behind bodies and upheaval.

A tragic character whose life and love were plagued with death and misfortune.

Where I started on my redesigns. I wanted to simplify their looks. If I ever actually get around to making some kind of animation, I didn’t want their looks to make me want to kill myself because it would take forever just to make key frames.

But, in all honesty, I really like how the new designs came out. More detailed sketches to come!

The Beast Within.

In Ultima, there are few creatures as terrifying or vexing as the Beast. An immortal creature, it is the personification of all things wild and dangerous. It is every ravenous creature, every pair of glowing eyes that flash from the shadows of the underbrush.

And it is sealed within the Second Tel’Mak.

As such, it has become a physical manifestation of Chance’s inner evil, a literal devil whispering in his heart, waiting for a chance to break loose and wreak chaos.

John, one of my older characters, was also given some new life. Of course, his redesign has already been seen, but I thought it interesting to reflect on how his design has changed over the years.

And I couldn’t help but add my most recent drawing of him. John is such a happy-go-lucky character that even I forget how ruthless he truly is. His family are all highly-skilled warriors and soldiers, and they maintain the strictest of discipline. Mercy is a luxury, not a guarantee.

But can he even learn what love is? Or is such a thing even possible for a man so used to death and despair?

I have been writing this book over the last two months; it has been an absolute joy to work on, though I’ve never put this much energy and time into one of my writing projects.

This is John the Warrior, the greatest fighter of the Olanders and grandson of the legendary Hero Sharif. Master of the two-handed longsword, he is the youngest to achieve the rank of lieutenant commander as well as command of his own fighting force, the Fighting Regiment. To this day, he remains one of the most skilled and powerful fighters in Ultima.

Link, son of the Second Master. After three decades of trying, the Second Master and Calliena were blessed with a child. He was a full Master, like his father. However, the Second Master was warned this was the only child he would ever be able to have till the end of days. Therefore, Link was trained in the art of combat. He became the Lesser Master of the Spear and Knightly Conduct. Though skilled with sword and dagger, Link's favorite weapon is the infantry short spear. He wields a large number of them, ranging from the short javelin to the massive pike. His skill in lightning techniques rivals that of his father. While kind and courageous, he is also slightly naive, seeing the world in terms of black and white, rather than a grayscale. Nevertheless, Link's honor and determination have been the death of many fierce enemies.

Calliena, wife of the Second Master. Once a mortal girl, she fell in love with the Master as he paid off a debt to her father. Unfortunately, a black magician nearly killed her; however, the Master managed to save her by giving her part of his power, making her a half Master. She is kind and tender, though she is fiercely protective of her husband and especially her only son. Word is she's the most beautiful creature in Ultima.
