After episode 33, I feel like it's becoming increasingly clear that Baku is autistic coded, So I wanted to ask if you had any autistic Baku headcanons 🥺
I definitely agree with you lol, I hope you enjoy these! I'm still not 100% caught up with the show so I hope that's okay ^^
tags: It is what it says on the tin, my thoughts of Autistic Baku! Mentions his family and friends and such.
-I honestly think his family knew pretty early on, he even had to undergo speech therapy when he was really little. There were some obvious signs, and some less obvious ones. Like he loved playing with others, but clearly preferred playing alone, some subtle stuff like that. But the speech issues and lack of response to his name were more obvious ones.
-When Minami was a baby, Baku wasn't super aware she Existed. But once she was around 2-3, he suddenly was a lot more interested in her and I think it really helped with his own development too. As children he definitely got better at sharing because of her lol
-Baku has been fixated on spy media since childhood, just utterly. He definitely missed classes sometimes rewatching his favourite movies, uhm. Once he gets into the watch zone, it is so hard to break him out of it. He attributes this(and other things, of course, like his luck), to why he hasn't dated much-
-Though Baku's gotten a bit more "used" to it, he's extremely sensitive to bright lights. He hates going into stores with those big bright lights, its really overwhelming and it hurts his eyes and eventually he gets a headache. Even sunlight can cause it if he goes out during the afternoon when the sun is brightest. He tries to avoid going outside when there's snow + high sun cause the LIGHTS.
-Baku isn't the best at masking, but he tries even if he knows it isn't ideal. He went from being somewhat unaware as a kid to HYPERAWARE of how his actions affect other people, so while he struggles to regulate his own emotions, he's constantly trying to help others with their owns, and making himself smaller as a result.
-He was taught to pick a spot on a person, hair, eyebrow, ect, and that's how he "maintains" eye contact. Otherwise he cannot do it, he hates it. Baku definitely prefers looking anywhere else though. His eye tends to "wander" in conversation a lot, looking around, noting the sights around him, instead of looking directly at who he's speaking to.
-Baku can pretty much only comfortably sleep in his own bed. The environment, the atmosphere, the comfort of his home, the shape of his bed, his pillow, his sheets. All of it is specific to BAKU. Anywhere else he'll toss and turn or even maybe not sleep at all. And he'll wake up feeling like ass.
-He has a really high pain tolerance, and a bit of an unawareness of when he gets hurt. When he was younger he wouldn't notice he got a papercut until the blood made a mess, for instance. It's sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse. But it is what it is. Ironically, Baku is not a fan of the sight of blood lol. Though since becoming Zeztz, he's gotten a bit better with it.
-He's very determined, as we've seen from episode 33. Once Baku puts his heart to something, it is very hard to get him to give it up. Sometimes this can be self sabotaging or harmful, but usually he's watching the entire james bond boxset in one sitting. Or well, most recently, making the zeztz driver for twenty some odd years.
-Baku definitely has an issue with maintaining friendships, I just think he's often branded as "weird". But he's been more recently blessed to find friends who are also kind of weird, and it's been working for him. He's the kind of person who prefers a few friends as opposed to a bunch of friends anyways. But growing up, Minami was definitely superrr overprotective of him when they were in school together even though she's three years younger. She still is super protective of him. She wants to know your intentions with her brother. Or else.
-When fidget spinners became huge Baku was ecstatic. He has multiple. And fidget cubes, he prefers the cubes. Whenever he's watching something, he usually fidgets with his hands. It helps him concentrate. Baku in general is quite good with his hand dexterity because of this!
-Overall it impacts his life in some ways, not so much in other ways. He isn't ashamed of being autistic, but it isn't something he's likely to share willy nilly. It is part of who he is though. But he'd definitely say the bad luck was more of a hindrance than anything else.
