A student used a $20 bill to pay for a $2.50 lunch and asked the lunch lady to put $10 in his account. She gave him $8.50 in change. Calculate the difference between what she gave him and what she should’ve given him in change.

My students and I had to figure out if a lunch lady gave one of them the right amount of change back and wow this is why I don’t teach math. It took five of us and I still think we were wrong.

My really quiet but uber smart kid was listening and laughing silently the whole time.
