It also deeply bothers me how many people pull the "okay now ask the average African American how they feel about gay and trans people" as a gotcha, to try to act as though Black people specifically hate and are oppressing queer and trans people (and as if we just, AREN'T those things too).

Buddy ask the average White American how they feel about gay and trans people, since we're taking the census and the piss. Hell, look at the people in charge currently pushing anti trans and anti queer legislation and tell me how they identify. Look at the racial demographics of our last election and tell me who you think is out here going rah rah for the gays and theys.

The audacity to suggest that my entire community is homophobic (I.e., you spend zero time around Black queer and trans folk) but somehow yours is worthy of a closer, more nuanced look... Really some OG white supremacy, actually! "Those savages, they don't understand things like gender and sexuality, they're just angry uncultured brutes!" -mentality shared between 1700s race scientists and 2026 You, apparently.

One of the things I really liked about Send Help was that over and over again, the movie drives home the part that Bradley knows he's a dick and has no intention of changing his ways. He is aware of the power he has over others, and fully intends to keep it. We see it over and over again:

Shortly after recovering his strength after being rescued, he goes right back to insulting Linda.

After he recovers his strength even more, he loses his mind about being told what to do when Linda tries to tell him he can't put that kind of weight on his leg. This freakout is also likely spurred on when she takes it humorously when he tries to fire her.

Not only does he poison Linda to make his raft escape attempt, but while she's lying in the sand, possibly dying, he turns back and insults her with a "FUCK YOU, LINDA!!"

This all makes the falling action after the climax all the more satisfying. He plays submissive and apologetic until the second he has the upper hand again– and he punctuates it with, "goodbye, you crazy bitch from Accounting."

And that drives it home. He never respected her. He always saw her as exactly that. Even when she was looking out for him, before she snapped. Even when she made it abundantly clear over and over that if needed, she would force him to respect her.

And the second she has the upper hand over him again, it makes that one-liner all the more satisfying: "Strategy and Planning."

God, I love a happy ending.

In the plane scene Linda was writing some documents to get the deal for her company, and then she sees the CEO and all the guys making fun of her, and she closes the document and literally hits "Don't save". She won't save these people who were cruel to her. In the island she didn't need saving because she was thriving and liked being there. It was the CEO, Bradley, who needed rescue and was trying to get it.

At the end of the movie the "You have to save yourself" it's a threat. "You have to save yourself because I Won't Do It." Applied to Bradley as "you were cruel and ungrateful to me so I won't save you" But also to the two innocent people she literally killed while they asked for her help.

Send Help is the perfect movie if you support women’s rights but more importantly you support women’s wrongs.
