I love the idea of Diamond meeting Hetty's foster family so much because I just know she would hate Gideon at first.

Gideon would probably be absolutely wonderful to her, but if Diamonds meetings of Polly and Freda are anything to go off of, her jealousy would know no bounds.

She spends the whole time like this.

Hetty decides to take Diamond and Bertie to meet her foster family and stresses over whether or not Bertie will be normally regarding Jem.

They arrive and Bertie is surprisingly chill and normal, but no one could have predicted Diamond's response. She is fuming the whole time. Honestly, even if Bertie had started acting up, no one would've given a damn considering Diamond's sheer fury.

Gideon is really upset at first because he thinks she scared of him like some of the village children, but then it turns out he's the one who should have been scared all along.

Diamond telling Madame Adeline "Hetty never writes to anyone" when she leaves the circus is unfortunately the realest thing anyone has said in the entire Hetty Feather series.

What if, when you were only a few days old, your birth mother had to give you up and you were instead given to a foster family but you were taken from them as well five years later to live in an abusive institution and then got locked in an attic all day and night for standing up for your only friend but then she got taken away and you found your birth mother but then she got taken away again as well and then you got a job but your boss exploited your work and fired you after you found out and then you found your mother again but then you had to hold her as she choked to death on her own blood and then you found your father but then your foster father died and you had to return for his funeral but no one recognised you and then you ran away to the circus and then you ran away from the circus with a girl you call your sister but who you're really more like a mother to at this point even though you're 16 at the very most and then you start working in a music hall but you got assaulted by another person working there and then you got fired for being assaulted and also sort of kicked out by your landlady.

Jeannie Rivers, you are so fascinating to me...

Like, the fact that she seems most similar to Beth of all her children. Even their physical descriptions are the most similar. Was Jeannie like Beth as a child? Did she grow out of that behaviour and expect Beth to do the same? Did her mother hit her regularly like she does after she sees Louisa Mayhorne? If any of her siblings had survived infancy, would she have been treated more like Beth? Pushed out of view of society? What was her mothers relationship with her grandmother like? Was her grandmother equally cruel? Did she see them interact and think about how she would never treat her daughters so cruelly, like Rose did?

So so so many questions.

Honestly, on of my favourite scenes in Clover Moon is when Clover is making little dough people with the younger girls in the Sarah Smith Home, but she ignores Jane in favour of helping Pammy, who doesn't really need the help at the moment, leading to everyone kicking off.

I think it was really interesting. Clover very much seems to project Megs onto Pammy, even at the start when the attention makes Pammy uncomfortable, and her ignoring child who needs her in favour of a child she only likes (at the moment) because she reminds her of her dead sister is a very interesting thing for her to do.

She is imperfect and she is grieving, but it was definitely an important part of her development after moving into the home.
