During the dawn of time, the Elementals were created and are considered the first beings of life in the universe. Six of them exist, but only four can live and die and be reincarnated to live another life. The two that exist to support the universeās existence are Light and Darkness while the four beings of life are Water, Fire, Nature, and Air. Each of them help with the creation of galaxies, solar systems, stars, planets, etc. They also inhabit these planets, directly helping in the evolution of life outside of these four elementals.
As time passed, the elementals themselves would adapt to the various planets and environments throughout the universe. Some of these changes would lead to evolutions and even the creation of new species.
As the elementals went about creating different parts of the universe, many of them decided to create their own sections of the universe that would act as a āhome baseā for the elementals. They took into consideration how some of them couldnāt necessarily live in the same environments with each other so therefore, the Realms were born. There are currently seven realms that inhabit the original elements and sub species.
1. Air Realm (Air beings, Angels)
2. Fire Realm (Fire beings)
3. Water Realm (Water beings)
4. Nature Realm (Nature beings, Animal folk)
5. The Underworld (Demons, Skeletons, Zombies)
6. Ice Realm (Ice beings)
7. The Heavenly Empire (Blood Angels)
Each realm stands out from each other with their respective histories, cultures, social standings, etc. The first four realms stay pretty friendly with each other and have had very few diplomatic issues with one another. There is slight tension with the Water realm and Ice realm but they haven't had any major conflicts. The only realms that have any conflict are the Underworld and the Heavenly Empire.
The realms of the elements also keep their borders open most of the time, only closing off entry to the realm in an extreme emergency.
The Ice realm keep their borders closed for the most part, mainly as precaution to avoid any type of invasion. Access to the Ice realm must go through some type of approval, which can take some time.
The Underworld previously had their borders open to all the realms, but after the people of the Heavenly Empire attacked, the realm would be entirely closed off by the decision of the king and his cabinet.
Access to the Heavenly Empire works the same way as the Ice realm, having to go through an approval process to enter, though it hasn't been visited by many outsiders. This is due to the realm being the most recent one to be formed, as well as its reputation not being the best.
The Elementals and Subspecies
Air beings: these beings are the most neutral of the main four, having the mindset of focusing on the balance of the universe and balance in their own life spans. Within the air realm, it's mainly of traveling villages since air beings tend to be wanderers for the most part and barely stay in one place. They don't really have any type of government, only having an elected cabinet of village leaders, the most important being the realm representative.
Fire beings: The fire beings are very tight-knit and passionate people, helping each other shine until the last flame burns out. Despite being at the edge of both creation and destruction, they make sure to enjoy every moment to the fullest. Within the fire realm, its government acts as a democratic republic, within an elected prime minister, cabinet, court justices, etc. It's the prime minister who appoints a realm representative.
Water beings: With the water realm being the largest and most populated of the main four, the people can vary depending on what region they come from. But no matter what, it won't change the fact that the water beings are the most proud of their cultures, holding many different events to honor and uphold their traditions. Most regions are ruled by a traditional monarchy, and it is the royal house that decides who to appoint as realm representative.
Nature beings: The nature realm and their people are recognized for being the pinnacle of archiving all of history. Nature beings hold the belief of keeping history alive by passing down their knowledge to all life forms. This would eventually cause the birth of superhumans among humanity but that's for another time. The realm is run by an elected council who then decide who to appoint as realm representative.
Demons: a sub-species of fire beings, they share the same beliefs as them but also enjoy the pleasure of their longevity. Being able to survive for much longer than their predecessors, demons used this as an opportunity to explore some of the deeper parts of the fire realm. This would soon lead to the formation of The Underworld, and was used as a home for all types of beings. Though, due to unfortunate events, the realm was closed off to all other beings, now only inhabiting demons and undead.
Angels: A sub-species of air beings, having advanced flight abilities and longer life spans, they remain quite peaceful for the most part. Studying and questioning the ways of their universe, angels tend to be found either wandering for knowledge or in most traditional academic places (i.e: one of the many schools in the nature realm, or UAA before the closing of the Underworld).
Blood Angels: A more recent and controversial evolution of angels, blood angels are born from dark forbidden magic. They only reside in the Heavenly Empire as they are creations of Emperor Zander. Blood angels stand out like sore thumbs due their violent nature and belief of being the superior life forms in the universe.
Undead: mainly consisting of skeletons and zombies, the undead are usually beings that had their lives cut short and live out the remainder as an undead. They're known for their quick adaptation of wielding magic, many becoming some form of oracle. Most undead are found in the underworld's first layer, named the Land of the Dead.
Due to the magical influence of the elementals on Earth, humans in the past who lived in areas with high amounts of magic, or have interacted with elementals would end up with super powers. initially, these powers would be basic element based abelites (basically bending in ATLA). But as time went by, they would evolve into a diverse array of abilities like fire powers evolved into light based powers. While not being extremely rare for a person to be born as a superhuman, not much was known as most of them would keep their powers secret. Superhumans only started to be noticed and studied around the early 20th century.
