Some time ago, I read a documentary-style story about sentient, out-of-service tanks in flowery fields.
They thinking, telling the soldiers that the war is over and that they will guard the fields, even though they are nothing more than rusty scrap heaps amidst a flowering field.
I thought it was beautiful, but when I reread it, nothing. As if it never existed. Complete Gaslight.
My first thought was the SCP Foundation, since objects acquiring consciousness is pretty much their bread and butter.
But every time I searched for 'conscious tanks' the result was different.
I tried other websites and places, but nothing.
Has anyone ever seen them? The tanks in the middle of a flowering field, telling the soldiers not to worry because the war was over?
Like: When I arrived at work, the view ahead was a fucking white wall. Two hours later, a fucking hill appeared as if the rendering had finally finished.
There I was, with a phone that was practically a potato, unable to access Tumblr... Life went on and I let it happen...
So my old phone came back from the repair shop after almost three years, but it came back with no internal storage or software updates... And I just let life take its course.
I got a new 9-to-5 job that is physically and mentally draining. And I let it get the better of me.
But I was unwinding after work with some doomscrolling on YouTube shorts and... THAT popped up.
An ad that made me come back to this site so I could scream into the void in the vain hope that someone would tell me I haven't gone crazy yet.
Yet.
It started with an AI chatbot. With a generic Vtuber model laughing at the screen.
But the second... God...
It started with a furry animation. A surprise for those who weren't expecting it. But within 2 seconds of the ad, I realized something was wrong.
One of the characters (the wolf) was hugging the other (the rabbit) from behind. It didn't sit right with me.
They were bouncing around as if the bus were going over bumpy streets. It really didn't sit well with me.
In my head it was something like, 'It's like they're fucking...'
But then the furry community rule hit me: "If it's animation, there's a 99% chance it's NSFW."
I went from a functional zombie to a pseudo-Batman in seconds and started to unravel the animation's mini-loop:
They were the only ones jumping aggressively.
The others in the back seem embarrassed/blushing
The rabbit's shirt is a bit loose/baggy
The scene appears to have been cut
A bulge moving up and down the rabbit's abdomen.
It's an NSFW animation. They put an NSFW animation on my YouTube shorts!!!
Pure outrage made me return to this site with proof: yes, my new phone can record screens.
Please, someone tell me I'm not completely crazy and that this isn't normal...
I don't get into Tokusatsu series where there are monsters disguised as humans; there's always someone with an room temperature IQ who sees a woman dressed as if an autistic Goth had a child with a colorblind Punk, with the social intelligence of a papaya seed, and goes around talking as if they weren't of the same species and thinks it's completely normal.
"You humans are weird" or "Unlike you humans, we are superior" or some such nonsense, and the imbecile thinks "She's so smart"…
Bonus if a literal monster appears and says "My queen, drop this worm and get back to your duties of eradicating the human race and expanding our forces," and it only clicks when the monster tries to rip the idiot's face off and he's all "OH! YOU'RE A MONSTER?!"
A rant because this annoyed me to no end today, and it's a recurring thing every time I'm cleaning something.
It's that whole 'Stop being a wimp and just properly squat down to clean something that's really low' thing.
The dirt is really low, like 'below knee height'. And they want me to kneel or stay soaking wet for a very, VERY long time, because a steel wool pad, bleach, degreaser and the sheer force of Christ's hatred isn't enough, and something that came from the store 'eggshell white' isn't 'pearl white'.
But then you might think, 'just grab a stool and get to work cleaning,' right?
Man… The chaos of simply sitting down to clean makes it seem like I'm dismantling a baby with blunt spatulas.
I'm already cleaning something that only I clean; cleaning is something far too beneath the majesties of this shitty house. And I still have to listen to bullshit and mockery? To hell with all this crap.
So, the universe threw a bucket of cold water on my plans to watch Jetman and Ohranger, so I decided to watch Kamen Rider even though I was still "chewing" on the ending of Den-O.
My list was Zero-One, Driver, Saber, Blade, and 555… But… Something made me go for something else outside my list… And that title was Kiva.
I don't know what came over me, but so far it's paying off. And paying off well.
And right at the beginning, in the flashback, a character appears. And I was chewing on myself like, 'I know this guy, but I don't know from where,' until he tilts his head, narrows his eyes, and gives that smile. The smile that makes me laugh for reasons of yes, the smile he had when he talked to his beloved Miitan.
Grease… He's my bro Grease.
The Rider who farmed the most aura in Build from the moment he appeared until he said goodbye to Misora after defeating the doppelgangers of his companions.
God I love him so much... He is such an expressive soul and I love him so much.
Probably not the best title to dive headfirst into after Build, but hey… You only live once.
Now, addressing the elephant in the room, the first thing I can say is… Digimon Ghost Game drank from that well until it almost drowned.
It's a super slow and very episodic series.
It focuses a lot on the 'Monster of the Week' formula, so when you hear the build-up to Gao, it's just advertising for the movie… which is canonical and practically mandatory to watch.
It's really not a good post-Build series.
And how does it compare to Digimon GG?
GG was also slow, with too many "monster of the week" moments, and in the end, everything was resolved too quickly… But Digimon has an advantage that Kamen Rider Den-O doesn't: the fanservice.
Digimon has a well-established formula:
They reach Champion form, face more challenges, reach Ultimate form, and finally, almost at the end, Mega form.
Den-O? The first power-up only came after the movie. Poorly used until they reached Liner form.
I found myself thinking about quitting several times, but when I saw how much was left, I decided to finish it because there were less than 15 episodes left… And wow… It was worth it.
The story was a bit weak until the last few episodes…
I don't know if I missed another must-see movie, but the villain suddenly appearing out of nowhere seemed kind of silly to me, and the lore overload at the end… It was really worth it.
I really enjoyed the 'Taros', the humor, the fight choreography, Zeronos and Deneb, and that the protagonist, who had the personality of a wet napkin, basically became decent in the end... I'm going to take a break from Kamen Rider and watch a Super Sentai that's been on my list for a while.
