Magic 101- Intuition, when to listen and when not to.
As someone who tends toward Druidism, which as a tendency to rely at times on the incidental. ( basically that means that the old Druids would look up at the sky and see some weird bird and go " oh look a bad omen" and entire armies would listen and turn around seriously that's how much power people gave the Druids) With the incidental comes a feeling you can call it good or bad, that is what is general referred to as a gut feeling or as Druids and witches call it intuition. But when do you listen to that feeling? When do you give that feeling the strength of your belief. There are times when you look over a sharp and long drop of a bridge an your brain tells you " I wonder if I've learned to fly, LETS TEST IT" I would advise against that because humans can't fly would just fall to your doom. That is an intrusive thought, not intuition and can at times make it very difficult to listen to your gut feeling. The problem with the intuition is that a lot of the time it doesn't use words, that comes with a lot of use and training, when you are first learning it's just an emotional response. There is another term for intuition. Your first thought. How many times have you made a choice then changed your mind only to find out that your first choice was right? People have a tendency to not trust the first thoughts because they begin to think about it then the doubt sets in. Doubt is your worst enemy when trying to use your intuition it drowns out the possibilities. A lot of people do not seem to realise that the gut feeling you have is a thousand year old instinct. Your ancestors have grown it, cultivated that ability in war and in life. Through hunting and strife. That instinct is powerful. There is plenty of proof to this if you look for it. (Google is your friend) You lead your life listening to that instinct. Imagine you walk into a room with blood everywhere. What is your initial reaction? For most it will be to run. For others to investigate. In that moment your choice will likely determine a great deal of things, perhaps for the rest of your life. In my experience training can help you make better choices. Take that scenario above my first thought would be " shit call the police, but stay nearby to watch incase you see anything that the police might take interest in." This comes from being in situations where I've had to do that. ( I was mugged one time and I will never let it happen again in I can avoid it) Out of the fight or flight response that you initially get training can give your intuition a greater range of responses. All witches in one point or another have used magic to correspond to our intents, aiding in manifesting our intentions through grounding and association, but as both an artist, and a sorcerer, I too, eventually found my associations with working with colors. Some colors are universal, some are cultural, but in the end, it is down to you, the magical practitioner, to decide on your own what each color under the sun means to you. Below, I will be listing my personal associations, which may contain a lot of obvious, and universal meanings behind each color. ~Maznok
White: Universally known as an all purpose color, since it contains every color within the light spectrum, and is the opposite of its own absence. It is a color also favored by traditional light workers. It’s a holy and divine color which can also be readily associated with any spirit, and divine entity which resides in the “Above” or “Beyond”. It can actually be used for offensive magic against dark aligned malevolent magic, energy, and entities. In offensive magic, it can also be used to pierce, just like light piercing through darkness. White can also be used to represent space.
Black: Universally known as the opposite of white, it can represent the total absence of light. Many readily associate black with malevolent and negative magic, but just like the light, the darkness also has its many blessings and positive attributes, such as protection through invisibility, shrouds, and it is a marvelous color for banishing any unwanted energies. This is the perfect color to use against light aligned malevolent energies, magic, and entities(you heard me), and umbra witches can rejoice in the healing properties of this color. Black is also a chthonic color, and is even used to represent time.
Gray: It is the mid point between the light, and the dark, and it can also represent “The Veil”, or any midpoint between one thing and another. This is a color I have used readily before to claim an energetically erratic place and made it magically “null” through the banishing abilities of the black, and purification of the white. Gray can also be used to make an energetic space null, or to strip something magical of its energies, making it “mundane”.
Red: Fire, energy, vitality, rawness, passion... Red is the universal color of intensity in emotional forms, be it intense anger, passion... It is a consuming color which can easily drown out and overwhelm. This is a color which can be used in matters of war, love, passion, and it is also a color of fortune. Red is one of the “Glory Colors” which can ground one’s goals into this world with a harsh, all consuming energy like no other color.
Orange: Fire and Air, creativity, concretion of ideas and plans, fertility, and sensuality. Orange combines the brainy and intellectual color of Air, with the harshness of energy and raw passion of Fire, which also imbues the attributes of both of these colors into it. Orange is also a color frequently used in many Pagan festivities, at times symbolizing the fertility of a Harvest, or even marking the finality of a Season, such as with Samhain, which is the Autumnal Equinox. It is when the rays of the sun begin to set below the horizon, marking the transition from day, to night, the perpetual twilight blanket coloring the sky with the dying fire of reds and oranges, which gradually turn to pinks, and finally purples.
Yellow: Air, intellectual and mental endeavors, it is the color of the sun as well. Through the mind is that all things are born, just like Athena as she popped out of Zeus’ head. Yellow is a happy color, and it is stimulating like red but without the harshness. Yellow can be used in matters of creativity, and to gently invigorate and energize any spell that has to do with friendships, and to even elevate one’s mood. Many solar and beauty deities adore this color as well.
Green: Earth, fertility, abundance, money, the accretion of material wealth, gaining favor and fortune in matters in which one may benefit from increased luck. While it takes blue and yellow to create green,(or for the color elitists who say it is actually yellow and black), it has its own correspondences which are unique, and independent of the energies of Yellows, and Blues, (and Black). Green is also a color of nature, and can readily be used for all things having to do with nature, luck, and money. Green can also be used to gain favor in court cases(if one is innocent), and to get a just sentence.
Blue: Water, emotions, fluidity, and all bodies of water. Blue can also be used to honor the sky, and to work with anything which may contain water molecules within it. A favorite of beach and water witches, it can also be used for sky and weather magic. It is a color of peace, wisdom, and is a divine color like white. Blue can also be used to hone one’s intuition, and in divination. This color is mildly stimulating and it can keep one awake during the wee hours of the night. I’m serious. Look up the effects of the color blue. Blue is also a regal color which can be used to honor deities that are in a higher command within their own pantheon. Blue is one of the “Glory Colors”.
Purple: Spirit,(water and fire), it combines the passionate and consuming energies of Red, and the emotional stillness of Blue, but it makes for something, that while it may readily have its own associations to many, it is in itself an amalgamation of Fire energies and Water energies, for the combination of raw vitality and one’s passions with one’s emotions and own experiences and wisdom which creates the definition of an individual spirit, or soul. Purple is a royal, and a divine color which can be used to honor the highest ranking deity of a pantheon, should they actually have any ties to this color. Purple is also the color of spiritual enlightenment like white, and can also be used to transmute one’s negative energy and circumstances into positive ones through the reversal one one's ill fortune. Purple is the color of Justice and Righteousness. Purple is one of the “Glory Colors”
Pink: Fire and Light, it is the combination of red and white, which may make for a very intense color in theory, and while it is loaded with two very intense colors, when these two come together, it creates an energy which is whimsical and happy like yellow. It is the color of more softer forms of love, and is universally known as a soft and feminine color. It is also the color of all forms of beauty, and can be used to honor those Spring holidays, and any deity that has to do with any and all forms of love and beauty. Pink is one of the “Glory Colors”.
Gold: The Sun, the Light, it is a very active color which can also mean a more “masculine” color. It is the ultimate “Glory Color” as it is the most powerful color for the manifestation of success in all areas of one's life. It can manifest the more spiritual things into the physical world, and it is the color of true fortune and abundance in all of its forms. It is a color of wealth, fortitude, and believe it or not, serendipity and the ability to “go with the flow”. Gold, like the metal, has a malleable property within its energy, which means that in spiritual work, you could in theory only use a small amount of gold and you'd still get an incredible amount of energy for fueling your wildest desires. Gold is a God and Angel color, and one of the most divine colors of all, next to Silver, and then White. Gold is also frequently worn by extra terrestrial chthonic deities since Gold is a heavy metal which results from the deaths of stars after they’ve gone supernova, and that core shatters, sending golden nuggets through space. Gold is also a very ductile metal, and like the metal, it is also very good at channeling one’s intentions through it. Seriously, a little bit of gold in spell work goes a REALLY long way.
Silver: The Moon, The Light, it is an active color, but not as strong as gold, and it is a feminine color. Silver is a mystical color, and the second strongest “Glory Color”. Silver, as a metal, is frequently used for its ability to harness magical power and enchantments quite well since times of antiquity. Silver is also a lunar color and can be used for getting clarity and illumination in matters which may seem “obscured” or “shrouded in darkness”. It can bring about the truth and is a good color for getting past glamours, and showing the truth of a matter, person, place, or thing. But just as Silver is good for removing glamours and seeing the truth, it can also be used to manipulate the appearance of something or someone, making it the ideal color for casting illusions.
Brown: Nature, the Earth, the ground beneath our feet. It is a color which is closely associated with fauna more than flora, but can also be used to work with earth elementals, and sentient energies which come locked away in stones and crystals. Brown is the other nature color, like green, and it can also be used for manifesting one’s intentions into the physical world. It is a very good banishing color if black is not available, and can be used to “bury” a matter that needs to be six feet underground. Like black, it is a color of endings, and is a good alternative for chthonic deities if black is out of the question.
After seeing many posts about the seven planets, with an addition or two of Pluto, Charon, and Neptune to the seven old celestial bodies, I decided to pull out my own correspondences for the Planets. This list, however, is personal, and it comes from my own grimoire. I will only be including the planets, the sun, and the moon for now. ~Maznok
The Sun: Sunday, glamours, success in all endeavors and things, divination, purification, happiness, creativity, cleansing, revealing the truth, “shedding light” on a situation, clarity in worldly matters and affairs, light and fire aligned spiritual empowerment.
The Moon: Monday, intuition, psychic endeavors and skills, spiritual matters, weather and sea magic, blood magic, clarity in spiritual matters and affairs, spirit work, divination, meditation, emotions, healing, light and water aligned spiritual empowerment.
Mercury: Wednesday, physical and psychic communication, travel in this world and all worlds, inspiration and motivation for artistic endeavors, clarity and success in business, invisibility, intellectual feats, mental strength and acuity, spiritual espionage, air and earth aligned spiritual empowerment.
Venus: Friday, love in all of its forms, compassion, beauty in all of its forms, feminine energy, feminine empowerment, glamours, healing, respect, copulation, fertility, money, aesthetic, earth, air, and water aligned spiritual empowerment.
Mars: Tuesday, energy, vitality, strength, activity, war and battles, weapons of all kinds, armor of all kinds, the expression of anger, lustful encounters, fire and water aligned spiritual empowerment.
Jupiter: Thursday, space, philosophies, spiritual knowledge, The Great Benefic, luck and chance, success in all affairs, rewards, abundance in all things, justice, gain favor in court, grants strength in civil affairs, rules over the Justice systems of the world and beyond, Lightning, Air, Water, Fire, and Fortune aligned spiritual empowerment.
Saturn: Saturday, time, laws, banishing, protection, punishing one’s enemies, spell reversal, respect, rules over government affairs and the overall government system, “you reap what you sow”, Earth, Air, Death, and Time aligned spiritual empowerment.
Neptune: Monday(Day and Night), Wednesday(Night), Friday(Day), Saturday(Night), Illusions, glamours, shadow work, hedge work, spirit work, elemental work, working with all unseen things, spiritual love in all of its forms, psychic endeavors and skills, magic in and around all bodies of water, invisibility, moving between dimensions and planes of existence, spiritual espionage and reconnoissance, Water and Dark aligned spiritual empowerment.
Pluto: Tuesday(Night), Wednesday(Night), Saturday(Night), Death, transformation of all things, metamorphosis, banishing, death work, ancestor work, curses, hexes, processions, the netherworlds, Earth, Fire, Death, and Dark aligned spiritual empowerment.
This is a sigil that was done as a blessing, right out of my personal Grimoire. It's initial meaning is quite simple. "May the stars guide you to your happiest moments" On the back of the sigil however you can place other meanings or wishes that you associate with the blessings of the moon or sun, even each individual star if you wish. The blessings may take effect immediately in subtle ways or they may take time. The important thing is that you wish these wonders upon the person on which you are casting these things.
