Review/Random Thoughts: The Doomies now that I’ve finished it
Wow this turned out to be my favorite thing I’ve watched all year so far. It had everything I like in a good show so imma write out my thoughts here. SPOILERS BELOW
-the length of it won me over from the get-go! For once since like 2019 we have a good cartoon that’s NOT extremely short. Which means we get to see what the characters do when they go home after their adventures and learn random facts about them that DON’T just have to do with the plot and I am a sucker for it
-NO love triangles that we already know aren’t going to work (LOL)
-every one of the main characters gets to save the day all by themselves at least once, even the characters who in another show would just be the clowns/jokesters (Doug got a LOT better at magic once he learned to believe in himself and Romy smartened the HELL up around halfway thru the season once she realized her best friend’s life was at stake)
-the two kids take turns showing GRAND gestures of love to each other through the whole show. The ppl who argued that Star and Marcos or Dipper and Mabel were toxic with each other bc one of the two gave up way more than the other can’t even use those arguments here. Maybe ppl COULD say that Romy was a bit entitled in the beginning but it didn’t last. To me the show seemed to imply that the events of the season kinda brought out the best in her
-the only thing I didn’t like was there were a few times where the characters would crack jokes while they were supposed to be terrified or extremely angry, but I almost wonder if I shouldn’t fault them for this bc MOST of the “older kid” Disney shows do this, even the Owl House. I get the sense that they have to include at least SOME jokes like that in order for Disney to allow their shows about children getting possessed by demon monsters onto their channel in the first place LOL.
Overall this show was exactly what I was hoping it would be and I’m crossing everything it gets a season two. Go watch it!! Disney hasn’t been promoting this or Dragon Striker as much as they should be which is so weird to me. It’s almost like they’re embarrassed that it’s good, which would be funny if they weren’t so illogical that that could maybe actually be true XD.
Almost finished watching The Doomies and I’ll make a whole seperate post with ALL my thoughts but I have one that I wanna share now:
Romy is literally Coraline if Coraline were a little bit less of a dick and REALLY loved Wybie. Both of them have parents who may as well not be there which led to both of them doing incredibly dangerous shit to try and get attention. They even have the same haircut and giant jacket LOL
This is not to dunk on either of them btw, they are my girls bc I have a thing for rowdy kid characters who are considered bad role models for real kids lol (Junie B Jones was my favorite character as a little kid if that helps give you an idea XD)
If ya’ll haven’t watched this show I highly highly recommend. It’s everything you like about the 2010’s gritty Disney/Cartoon Network shows and it totally KNOWS that and plays into it
Rumor has it: Wildwood will be over two hours in runtime with a PG-13 rating
We want to preface this post by stating that this is JUST A RUMOR. Nothing is confirmed by LAIKA yet!
The rumor began on the website for the Regal theater company, which listed the film's runtime as 2 hours and 19 minutes, or 139 minutes total. The page has since been taken down, but for reference, if these leaks are to be believed, that would make the film 1 minute shorter than Spider Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the current record-holder for the longest American animated film, and about 22 minutes longer than Pinocchio, the current longest stop-motion film!
Ambitious, indeed.
I love Kim, wish I could draw her more 😭
She is ABSOLUTELY a snake girl, like I’m surprised there wasn’t already one in her room when we saw it. She’ll probably bring a wild one from outside if her parents won’t buy her one
My beautiful cringefail lesbian daughter I wont let anyone hurt you
She’s just a rag dolly……
It feels SO weird when you watch a new show come out and THREE of the four main characters are almost EXACT matches in personality to three of the main characters/OC’s in your own original story. And then you start rewriting their character sheets to make sure you differentiate them from the characters that you just accidentally predicted
This is about The Doomies on Disney Plus btw XD
Particularly the way Romy and Doug speak (like their speech style/vocab) matches the way two of my OC’s (also a teen girl and an older guy) speak almost one-to-one. To the point where it almost felt uncanny (but in a cool way!) at first bc it felt like I was watching my own characters speaking. At least when this happens it’s not like anyone can call you out on it unlike the reverse (making up an OC who is just like a character who already exists) LOL
(I promise I’m not dunking on the show at all, it’s actually one of the sweetest things I’ve watched in the last couple years. PLEASE go watch it if you haven’t yet, even if you don’t have Disney Plus I’m sure you can find it….somewhere lol)
I’m only up to this episode so far but I’m gonna get a cavity from how God damn sweet the two of them are with each other like holy goodness.
I loved her from the start but I was SO worried ppl were going to talk about her the same way they talk about Mabel from Gravity Falls (and I love Mabel too btw).
But then I’ve been reading what ppl have been posting about this show and she’s actually the favorite??
And ngl it makes sense. The ppl who hated Mabel can’t even use the same arguments here (“Dipper gave up so much for her and she rarely ever got to give back in return”) because it’s just not true. The show literally goes out of its way to point out she’s been a better caretaker of Bobby than any of the actual adults around him including HIS OWN MOM. And he clearly doesn’t want to leave her side ever so the argument that “he’s not actually happy being with her” doesn’t work either.
All I’m saying is I hope ppl will be nice to her bc my favorite characters all have a track record of being hated/misunderstood by like half the audience sometimes even after the story is over (Ragatha, Mabel, etc)
Also unrelated note: I know exactly who this girl needs as a big sister and it’s Frankie from Knights of Guinevere. TELL ME it wouldn’t be the most perfect thing ever
Romy being an older sister and trying to avoid her sisters while latching to Kim as her older sister figure is something I can relate to as the eldest of my siblings. I've always been the oldest so I tend to latch onto people older than me.
Do you think post the first movie Hiccup is ever talking to someone about an invention idea he had, and then that person shows they were actually listening, and he’s just so taken aback because like… he knew people started treating him better since he fought the Red Death, but he didn’t realize that anyone aside from like maybe his father and Gobber would be genuine about liking him and being interested in his things
100% ABSOLUTELY this happened. It’s so in character for everyone that it’d be weirder if it DIDN’T
day 121
best scene of the movie, it made me so happy I cried :')
reblogs are appreciated

I’m glad that now that the movie’s been out for almost a month (and because of Goose’s recent revelations about Ragatha lol) people are FINALLY learning to appreciate this scene instead of calling it weird/unnecessary
Bc yes this WAS my favorite scene in the movie and as much as I try not to be biased ngl it DID hurt a little to see everyone making fun of something that I thought was so well done, lol
Tired of seeing "Reheated Gravity Falls nachos" whenever it comes to The Doomies or any other new show that has to deal with mysteries and the paranormal. Gravity Falls didn't invent the genre. That's like me calling Gravity Falls reheated Martin Mystery nachos.
THIS!! It’s like ya’ll, you have to remember that Gravity Falls is almost FIFTEEN YEARS OLD, there’s GOING to be other shows that remind you of it eventually. Also “kids doing spooky shit with flashlights” is its own whole genre, Gravity Falls is not the first OR last of that kind of show lol
Drew these at the bookstore and left em on the bulletin board with the other drawings LOL
I’m pretty sure Haaland EATS rabbits. Jax never stood a chance
CREDIT for one of the Haaland drawings goes to another artist whose art I redrew, the rest are all mine
I’ve really started to realize how GOOD reading stories and watching movies with my mom was for me when I was a little kid bc it seems like it gave me a better sense of how to understand/not get angry over story choices than a LOT of ppl I see online talking about the TADC ending.
Like whenever we watched a movie where the villain had a sympathetic backstory but then either died or was killed by the hero at the end, I would feel sad (I was an overly sympathetic kid lol). So my mom would explain to me that “yes, it’s very sad, but (villain’s name) NEEDED to die in order for the other characters to stop suffering.”
I know that sounds brutally harsh especially to tell a little kid but again I feel like SOMETHING about it helped me to be able to both have more patience for “hate-able” characters AND be totally okay with it when said characters get what was coming to them.
Like with Jax, I actually did like him a lot and didn’t want to see him suffer (hell I can’t even look at PICS of him saying that “I don’t want to go” without tearing up, and I’m not a movie crier), AND, at the same time, I get that in the story, he NEEDED to have that happen in order to learn his big lesson and for the other characters to stop suffering.
But it seems like a lot of ppl either were mad that he died and didn’t get brought back bc they thought that was too harsh, or they thought him dying but being peaceful and his “real” self getting a happy ending wasn’t harsh ENOUGH for him. And I wonder what those ppl actually would’ve wanted to see lol
