Ftm Percy which changes nothing during the og series, seeing as he transitioned before camp and no one gives a shit, there's more important stuff to deal with anyway.
However:
y'know how monsters call him 'Perseus Jackson'? SoN amnesiac Percy. He gets to CJ and they ask him what's his name.
And he doesn't know. Because the gorgons that have been chasing him, they call him '*deadname*' but that cannot possibly be his name. He's a boy, right? He knows he is, but he doesn't know his name, where he came from or who he is.
And even better if Hera doesn't announce him.
There's just this kid at the doorstep, he's controlling the entire river, nothing can hurt him (as he hasn't crossed the Tiber yet) and he's fiercely protective of demigods on principle.
Reyna (who doesn't recognize him, because he's changed a bit since Circe, starting on T etc.) and Octavian just look at each other :
"Think he's a god or sum shit? "
"Idk better not piss him off if he is. "
"Okay, okay let's name him uhh...Romulus. "
And by the time Mars arrives there's already a small shrine and people are worshipping him and Mars rlly doesn't care just gives the quest and fucks off. Percy immediately offers to go with Frank so they are given better resources, as to impress the God of Demigods.
And then like after the gamble with Gaea? When he starts remebering? New Romes newest protector god is a demigod? Hazel and Frank just like o.O
And Percy isn't a god yet, but he can hear the prayers, he can feel the offerings he's given, and he's stronger than ever.
He kill Polybotes by himself. Sure, he's a demigod, but the belief of New Rome is strong enough for him to manage it. At least, that's what he tells himself.
By the time the Argo II arrives, he's already half-ascended and New Rome is like 'nah mate, you ain't stealin' our Patron God Romulus, ya tweakin' and Annabeth can't believe she has to fight a custody battle over her boyfriend just cuz the monsters can't learn to stop deadnaming him.
heh
Something about Percy has changed, Annabeth realizes. Nothing much, but there's something different.
His eyes were always changing, matching the closest possible water. However, as he talked to her, to Piper or Leo they seemed to be more green, like the sea. When he talked to Hazel, Frank or Reyna they were more grey and blue, like freshwater and the grey in his hair disappears.
The Romans call him Ro, at least his new friends do. It must be a play on the greek letter rho.
He turns around rapidly when he's about to take her on a tour.
"Leo, Octavian, wait."
The latter immediately takes a step back, hand hovering over a dagger, looking at Percy, waiting.
Percy calls over some boy, a son of Venus if she had to guess. They speak rapid fire Latin before Piper's half- brother speaks.
"If there's anything here that's not a demigod, leave."
There's a brush of cold against her, a whisper barely audible.
"Eidolons. That would have ended badly." Hazel explains.
When asked how he knew, Percy just tells her he knew Rome was in danger. She chalks it up to his Praetor role.
She doesn't think about it much for a while. Hazel and Frank still say 'Rho' instead of using his name but that's fine. Sure, sometimes there's more food on the table than they made but what difference does it make? Sure, Percy avoids being in a room with all of them, choosing either the Romans or Greeks, but that's understandable, mixing friends groups can be awkward. Sure, he seems to act more like the commander he was during the Titan War with Hazel and Frank, but that's the Praetor thing speaking.
Then they're in Tartarus. And suddenly there's a bottle with water in his hands.
"Hazel you genius. Thank you." He whispers.
"Percy, what-?"
"She made me a sacrifice." He shrugs and offers her a sip as if it was normal.
"You can't make sacrifices to mortals!"
"You can if you believe they're not." He says if simply, as if it was an everyday thing as she struggles to understand the implications of that.
The Romans believe Percy to be a god. They've been making him sacrifices. Have they been praying to him? How does that even work?
She has more important things to deal with. She does not ask many questions, choosing to focus of getting out.
Then they find Nyx. She looks at them, at him, with curiosity that Annabeth can't stand.
"Who am I talking to? Perseus or Romulus?" She asks. Percy's eyes flicker from the sickly green they've been since they fell to the blazing orange of the fire river. He looks at her. They turn green again.
"Ah. I'd much rather talk to Romulus, godling."
Percy's eyes go orange again. And then, as she thinks that, green.
"You're giving me a headache." He complains, looking at Nyx.
"Me? Not Wisdoms spawn?"
"She can't control how she thinks. You can."
Romulus. The Romans met an amnesiac kid and named him Romulus. It wasn't Rho they were calling him. The Romans met an amnesiac kid, assumed him to be a god and named him Romulus. Patron God of Rome.
Headache, he said, mixing Percy and Ro gave him a headache. He was splinching.
Romulus was a god. A demigod and a god, even if not fully ascended, had more chances of surviving Tartarus than two halfbloods. Nyx was more partial to Ro, she wanted to talk to him, maybe she would help him.
Percy had green eyes and a grey streak in his hair. Ro didn't have either. This wasn't Percy. This was Ro, Romulus, Rome's patron.
"Looks like she can after all, Romulus."
- Might finish this and turn it into a fic soon. Might not. School you know. Anyway this would be a cool thing to show Jasons change as well, which is why I don't mention him. Because he didn't meet Romulus, he would likely think more in terms of Percy at first. After talking to Hazel and Frank, he'd see him as Ro, but as he feels more Greek with time he'd revert to Percy.
