Pitch was originally just going to drop baby Jack off at Tooth’s or Sandy’s (the two ppl less likely to kill him) but something deep and not related to the shadows surfaced and Pitch found himself caring for Jack not as the Nightmare King, but as something more human that the Shadows greatly disapproved of… they whisper 'kill the child—turn him now' while another, more distant part cries ‘daddy’.
