common types of protectors in systems
physical protectors: these protectors seek to protect the system from physical danger, either by fighting back or by taking the abuse themselves.
emotional protectors: very similar to physical protectors except for emotional abuse! they may take a similar role to caretakers as well, but their primary goal is to help their systems manage painful or uncomfortable emotions.
sexual protectors: these protectors may take on memories of sexual abuse, or they may take on unwanted encounters or emotions relating to sexuality
social protectors: for systems who have triggers associated with different types of social interaction, social protectors may exist to handle these situations!
persecutor protectors: i plan to make a separate post for these alters because they tend to be incredibly misunderstood! these protectors have misguided methods of protecting the system, often through causing harm to the body or people in their system, but there are always reasons for what they do. i cannot stress enough that there are no such thing as evil/bad alters.
nonhuman protectors: when a child experiencing abuse feels as if they’re unable to survive the abuse they’re facing, they may create alters that are nonhuman! these alters can serve any role, but they’re often protectors.
caretakers/soothers: these protectors help take care of younger, emotionally volatile, or unstable alters!

system ask meme...
a set of questions I either haven’t seen, can’t remember, or thought would be a bit of a novelty, cause there aren’t many of these. here we go!

damn this got me..
To everyone who thinks they’re faking, to myself:
Broski, why would you fake this? Why would you fake something that significantly causes you hardships? Why? I mean honestly, think about it. You don’t get sympathy for this, you get treated oddly by almost anyone you tell and that’s about it.
Let’s say you somehow magically are subconsciously faking it or something, you get little to no benefit from it. So why would you keep faking this, knowing you aren’t benefiting? You wouldn’t.
Why do people fake things? To receive something beneficial out of it.
For example, faking a broken leg. When we were 9 or 10, we broke our leg and got crutches. At first, we weren’t faking. But then we saw all the benefits and didn’t want the injury to go away. When it did, we faked still needing our crutches, and accidentally walked without them one day in the middle of class.
If you were faking this, you’d slip up, or you’d actively act out switches with the intention of deceiving someone. You aren’t doing that, are you? No. You aren’t faking. Maybe you don’t have what you think you have, but you have something, and it’s real.
I know it’s hard to believe that you have this, I know part of you probably wants to believe that you are faking it, no one wants to have such bad traumatic experiences that they “break” to cope with it. But if you didn’t come into this thinking “I’m going to purposefully pretend to have this,” then chances are you aren’t faking.
You’re not faking if you hardly switch
You’re not faking if you have 3 alters or 100s
You aren’t faking if your trauma wasn’t “bad enough,”
You aren’t faking if you drink or do drugs
You aren’t faking if you have fictives
You aren’t faking if you are co-conscious a lot
You aren’t faking.

10 Signs you have/had toxic parents/been abused/childhood trauma
-you’re passive aggressive towards yourself -“it’s my fault, I didn’t do it but it has be my fault somehow.” -self-harm because you deserve it. -if my parents hate me, I shall hate myself as well. - I’m not being abused, I’m just trying to make myself believe that I’m not a nuisance to my parents. - I shouldn’t bother my parents/abusers with my feelings. -if I deserved love and affection, I should’ve got it a long time ago. - If I’m not good enough to them, I’ll never be good enough to anyone. - they’re always right, I’m the one who’s wrong. -“we’re the best parents, but you don’t deserve how kind and compassionate we are”
Singlet, not a system / Hey I've been reading up on DID and one thing I came across was that there are different kinds of alters. And I'm now wondering can alters like Protectors only front when they are needed? Or is that not linked to smth like that?
Hey there singlet! There are indeed different types of alters, particularly in DID and OSDD systems. These names are given based on the actions and purposes of each alter. Protectors for example may protect the body, a particular alter, or the system as a whole. Because of this, it is completely possible and makes sense that certain alters would only front during certain situations. For example, if the person fronting felt threatened, a protector may surface to handle the situation. Hope this cleared things up!

I want to add that protectors, just like every type of alter, can also front due to positive triggers. If their favorite tv show is on, they can front. If they want to go out dancing, they can front. Every system is different. Sometimes protectors only front when needed, sometimes protectors front for a variety of reasons, good and bad. Using word like “only, always and never in regards to DID/OSDD is usually not a good idea or accurate because every system is different and evenw within the same system things can change.
Thank you for this important addition! This is true as well!
