Here we go again. Simru Region is my ongoing project that started as far back as 2010, maybe earlier. It's based entirely on the country Wales, 🏴 where I live. I'll use this pinned post to explain a few details, but the majority of posts to come will be the pokemon themselves reposted, but hopefully with some sketches and new work in the near future.
If you see this art in older reblogs on tumblr, it's from the first incarnation of this blog (with one hyphen instead of the new two). All the work here is designed by and made by me, and you can find me on my main @relentless-storm
Simru Region is based on Wales, the name Simru comes from a mispronunciation of Cymru, the Welsh name for Wales (correctly pronounced kum-ree). The names of the locations and the Pokemon are typically an English word and a Welsh word combined.
I have my own unique type, called Ancient Type, that is detailed here.
Every Pokemon posted will have a sequence of tags, making it easy for anyone to find what they want to see on the blog.

I didn’t go into much detail of the lore of Simru before, so I hope to cover more of the world, the history. the people in it, Gym Leaders, items, etc.
Finally, I love feedback, so send me asks for anything you want to know or anything you want to say and I will do my very best to answer every one.
I’m relaunching Simru Region with a freshly redrawn Legendary Pokemon, the highest Legend in the region, DDRAIGOCH.
Ddraigoch is without a doubt based on Y Ddraig Goch, aka The Red Dragon found on the Welsh flag. There's no other inspiration here, that’s what it's meant to be.
My original design (actually the first was redrawn into the one above) was lacking a lot of details that I’m hopeful have been added here now. The main thing being colours. The original was only red, which in reflection of the flag is correct, but now I’ve added green and white to represent all the flag colours. The shiny is black and yellow, in reflection of the Flag of St David, another flag commonly used in Wales.
The other details I’ve fixed; the proportions were out of whack, the raised foot (which has taken me as much time to get right as the entire rest of the drawing took), the disconnected wings, the stunted head and neck. All look much better now.
All in all, I’m so happy with how this turned out, it really looks like a bad ass dragon pokemon now.
Its Pokédex entry alludes to several other pokemon, all of which will be revealed at some point, either with their entries or within the world lore. I hope this is the start of a new era for the Simru Region.
