To welcome the New Moon on the 18th, The Third Bird and I are getting together to offer a feast of celebration on the evening before. I will be present in their kitchen as a guest chef, bringing an indigenous-inspired menu to your plate.
I am looking forward to working with Chef Lucas Almendinger and the entire staff at this fabulous Minneapolis eatery that uses fresh, locally produced foods to create amazing cuisine with simple style.

Our Indigenous Celebration Owamni & The Buffalo Sky was a wonderful weekend of native culture and supportive participation! I thank you all so very much for the generosity of spirit and love.
I owe much gratitude to storyteller Colin Wesaw, poet R Vincent Moniz Jr, singers Ahnung Matrious & Miziway-Migizi Desjarlait and singer/songwriter Ben Weaver for joining us at the Aster Cafe's Enchanting River Room this weekend past. Their voices were a passionate and heartfelt tribute to native peoples and their connection to the earth. I was delighted and honored by their presence at our dinner and am deeply moved by their art.

Coming up on February 17th, Sean will be guest-chef at The Third Bird in downtown Minneapolis. Two nights later he will be curating North Coast Nosh, an Indigenous Fair at the Minnesota History Museum. This event will be a more intimate affair as tickets are limited to allow a more casual and unhurried atmosphere.
So we hope to see you soon, somewhere down the dusty trail, where the silver moon meets the lake and the loons cry. We'll save you a spot by the fire where you'll nourish your spirit with fine friends, fresh food and familiar lore.

Sherman has been cooking throughout Minnesota, South Dakota and Montana for 27 years, and in 2014, he founded “The Sioux Chef,” a catering and education business that seeks to revitalize indigenous knowledge of traditionally cultivated food and culinary technique. Some examples of the flavors and ingredients Sherman aims to revive include: maple, sumac, pine, wild mint, cattail, deer, bison and more. Aster Cafe River Room Takeover
Tonight is the first of the Aster Cafe Dinners. (http://ow.ly/IyVWy) These events for me are both a celebration and an expression about helping to bridge the gap of native foods and culture of the past to the promising path we are all on towards a healthier future. The world needs to know and see the vast varieties of native foods, stories, cultures, and wisdom for health, understanding, and healing. THE JINGLE DRESS

First People's Fund Awards
Chef Sean Sherman receives an Artist in Business Leadership Grant We are delighted to announce that Chef Sherman has recently been awarded a First People's Fund Artist in Business Leadership grant to further his advancement of Native American culture and the relationship of food to the preservation of that culture. Chef Sean will continue to advance the First People's Fund's mission to spread ancestral knowledge and preserve cultural tradition in tribal communities across the country.
Sean's work with the youth on reservations and in urban Native American neighborhoods is an integral tenet of his overall mission to educate all peoples in the methods of traditional food preservation and preparation. The importance of understanding what is going on with these communities in terms of their ability to regenerate a self-sustaining model of food sourcing is a topic Sean has studied extensively.
Chef Sherman is honored to have been selected as a First People's Fund Grant recipient that acknowledges this work and supports his continuing educational and artistic vision.

Educating the Next Gen
Chef Sean Sherman likes to bring his knowledge of ancestral indigenous foods, and the foraging and preparing that bring them to the plate, into the classroom. He feels that the future of this cultural food identity movement rests squarely on the youth and the ability of Native American Chefs to mentor them in its nuances.

Owamni & the Buffalo Sky
The Sioux Chef, Sean Sherman, and our Catering Director, Christine Werner, have been busy preparing for our first Pop-up Dinner. Chef Sean has spent years studying the traditional foods of his Native American ancestry, he now specializes in preparing time-honored Dakota & Ojibwe cuisine with a modern appeal.
The menu he developed for this event is sourced entirely with indigenous ingredients (the original local and organic) utilizing the Minneapolis area's many natural markets and working in partnership with local Native-run farms and gardens.
Utilizing only those ingredients available to the Native American community before contact with Europeans, the food for this celebration will be unlike anything you have ever tasted.
Sean and Christine promise you a night of culinary delight as they guide you through a 5 course plated meal, complete with stories, poetry, music, song and dance.
