Main guy: Elijah, he/any, turned at 22 in probably ~800ce give or take. Scottish. Scientist, physician, surgeon, teacher. Originally designed to be a worldbuilding canvas, accidentally turned into a guy I care about.
Jude, She/he/they. Turned at like,, 26-29 in ~1070. Viking guy. A freak.
Xander, he/him: Human, mostly. Immortal. Died at age 32, and 33. Now 38 but immortals don’t age after their first death. Studies vampires!
There’s more characters but like their purposes and stuff aren’t locked in because I have unseen levels of brainrot about ELIJAH. And the mythos, to a lesser extent. And not much else. I neglect other stuff. I am a bad parent to these OCs. Because I’ve never actually done this before! But they do exist and they even have designs some of them but not actually written any of them down.

A couple years back I got mad that every vampire mythos to ever exist had something about it I didn’t like. Of course, the only logical course of action to take was to invent my own vampire worldbuilding. I gave myself a canvas/base for this worldbuilding and I was not intending to get attached but one day I woke up and he had a name and a personality and friends and now it’s my second year of artfight ever and I’m still featuring these characters. But the worldbuilding is still kind of the point. Mostly. Ignore the fact I’m slowly giving myself the same wardrobe as the guy. Anyway. See lore here:
Immortal and unaging.
Hunger may make a vampire look older/sickly/corpse-like.
Can be killed by decapitation or burning.
It is unknown if a vampire can starve to death.
Solitary creatures
“Vampirism favours the selfish”
The sun is always uncomfortable/weakening, but only hurts for the first few centuries. Sunburn appears normal at first, longer exposure will lead to charring in fledgelings though. Otherwise fatigue, nausea. It’s heatstroke.
Silver always burns, and silver objects will not show a reflection.
Can enter buildings without permission, unless that building is protected by a magical barrier/ward/true consecrated ground.
Eyes are two-coloured/two-layered, the outer iris is very close to their human eye colour and the inner is always red.
Fangs aren’t just points, they’re kinda… v-shaped. Think medical needles. Appear as ‘normal fangs’ from the front though (on canine teeth).
Obligate human blood (animal blood is both poor in nutrition and tastes bad)
Can consume food in small amounts. Usually unable to taste it, at least in full. There are exceptions to this. Food in large amounts causes nausea.
This ^ is why garlic throws people off, its flavour isn’t muted at all, and it sticks to blood. It’s jarring. How jarring depends on the individual’s taste.
Vampire blood is not blood but venom. Black with metallic sheen in appearance. Fangs are connected to the circulatory system. The heart only beats for a couple hours after hunting or if venom is being expelled.
This ^ is why staking doesn’t work, the heart only needs to beat on occasion, a staked vampire will just be unable to process the blood they drink until their heart heals.
Venom heals humans in small doses and transforms in large doses.
^this allows for nonlethal feeding (killing is still preferred)
Stronger, faster and better senses than a human.
‘Faster’ applies to short distance only (ambush predator)
Better senses are mostly sound and scent, sight is improved to include darksight/night vision. The sense of taste changes kind of incomprehensibly.
The counting mechanic is real but it’s more subconscious than the myths. They just kind of know how much of something there is. This includes concepts like days/seasons (physically unable to lose track of time).
Hunting frequency depends on the vampire's age (older = less often) and the quality of the blood (healthy humans = less often). Contemporary, mature vampires get away with 1/week before people start to notice. Fledgelings in times of epidemic or famine need 1/day at least.
Not usually able to do magic. Some exceptions.
Shapeshifting into an animal is possible, but it doesn’t come naturally. Animal is a carnivorous (even just partially, like an omnivore) animal from the vampire’s home range. Vampire’s clothing/items will enter hammerspace when transformed. How? I don't know. This whole element breaks the laws of physics, when the others plausibly make some sense.

been reading the judijah lore.. has there been any periods where they stayed living together and had some idyllically domestic moments before separating again?

we’re going to start with a statement: i have no idea what their canonical sexualities are and i never intend to fully find out. we have aspec and we have some kind of bisexual and i think putting anything more rigid on them than that is unrealistic, because these things aren’t usually rigid. neither of them are cishet that’s what really matters. ok wokeness disclaimer over
anyway. i’ve been thinking about them lots this week. nothing too specific just vibes. i think the short answer is yes, in a sliding scale of their reunions being “partners in crime (business/battle)” to “hey this just looks like a somewhat normal romantic relationship (it’s not)” to “man if these people knew what the word qpr was. well. they’d have a new word to use.” the best way to describe the modern day julijah dynamic is just. devotion. trust. teamwork. they have each others’ back, anything else is up to interpretation and how they feel about each other on the day and also the alignment of the stars.
but how they get there is fucked up and probably aphobic. but i’m allowed to do that to him because all aspecs can do whatever they want forever. also he deserves it.
so. 2 very different types of living weapon* walk into a domestic partnership after like 2 years of hanging out. one of them has somehow fallen in love with the guy that kills people badly. the other doesn’t really Do caring about individual people anymore, or at least he Thought so until this freak showed up in his life.
they’re a perfect team, and each cares about the other more than anyone else. maybe for the first few years they’re not exactly on the same page (and hell, maybe they know that), but they work.
eli doesnt know what the aromantic spectrum is, he probably thinks hes broken. but it’s ok because something has to be broken with jude to have her put up with him, so theyre perfect for each other. right. but it’s also like, not many people liked him or even seen them as a person in so, so long. and jude does. so there’s a whole ‘hold on tight and don’t let go’ element. he knows it’s bad form. too bad. vampirism is about selfishness. he DOES at least respect jude enough to try to tell her but she’s just like “pfft, like we were gonna be normal? the fact you’re even acknowledging my feelings is exceeding expectations” (SHE HAS ISSUES TOO). i just think putting eli through the comphet horrors and jude through the lowkey unrequited horrors is a great way to explore aromanticism. by them both being tormented. badly.
everything kinda goes to shit after jude’s been turned for lack of blood related reasons ((dont get scared) turns out compensating/substituting a lack of sexual attraction with bloodlust stops working when you get rid of her blood, dumbass (that was mean. he probably didn’t know exactly where the line between those 2 emotions was)) and also new species new life new existence to explore reasons, no longer being tied down to an institution (knighthood) has given her a taste of freedom and she wants more of it. and eli has kinda always been there for the last 10 years or so, and it’s getting increasingly more suffocating, and increasingly more obvious that their current dynamic doesn’t work. idk how yet, but they eventually land on separating. whether they mutually agree on that or if there’s a fight… hm.
i dont know how long jude’s hot girl summer era goes for yet. decades minimum. maybe 200 years maximum.
i think i mentioned in one of my other posts about my vampires they’re solitary creatures? idk for sure what that looks like yet (and meta-wise doesn’t work well with making a story, you need multiple characters to bounce off) but between that, the extra layer of it on eli’s side, and the whole “these people are eternally in their 20s and they can probably only stay in one place for maybe 2 decades at a time at most before people start Noticing™️, and that’s if no one notices the killings sooner” … well now you have your long answer. yes.
idk man they make me insane she’s in love with him he loves her but not like that and the disconnect took 150 years to get over and probably cost several thousand people their lives. i think she mightve stabbed him a couple times when they reunited. she deserves to kill him. he knows that. tells her as much. she’s not going to, because to her annoyance she still likes him too much to commit to something like that. also something something knights and devotion WHATEVER

this was originally going to be part of an enormous elijah masterpost but i think dividing it into 2 posts, a later elijah-specific post (that i will hopefully remember to edit a link into here when i post it), and this speculative biology post, is a far better idea. so have my vampire biology. it’s long. the cut is needed
elijah is my canvas for this worldbuilding so when i talk about him it’s teaching by example.
vampire claws are somewhere between michael the distortion and netflix castlevania… extendo fingernails but theyre claws. evolutionary purpose: defense against other vampires. bone nestled within bone, think 3d printed collapsable swords. that scene with alucard scratching the runes into the mirror. but it’s his fingers.
shapeshifting into an animal is possible but most vampires dont know that, it doesnt come naturally. eli took 300 years to figure out he could turn into a raven/crow (uncanny valley! he turns into neither actually, but only the discerning eye can really recognise that).
sunlight feels like standing in front of an open oven. it’s not fun, but it is survivable. can be avoided with hooded cloaks, hats, long sleeves, also this effect lessens with age. by the modern era eli will still avoid the middle of the day if it’s sunny out, but it’s not the end of the world if he needs to be in it for some reason. wheras when he was younger it was a lot more of an issue. sunscreen might help in a modern era too. slip slop slap seek and slide, yknow? effects on the young: severe sunburn and some form of heatstroke. light sensitivity, especially direct lights… ambient sunlight loses potency over the years but like no vampire’s ever gonna look anywhere near the sun.
a vampire probably doesnt need to sleep unless they’ve metaphorically lost/used their spoons, by being affected by the sun or:
silver does affect vampires! touching silver burns vampires as if it’s fresh out of a forge. silver mirrors can’t reflect vampires (thus, cameras made with silver mirrors can’t take photos of vampires). in versions where werewolves are in the picture the same effects go for them. unlike the sun this effect doesn’t lessen with age.
let’s talk about garlic. if it’s a strong smell to humans, what do you expect it to be like for a vampire? and most human foods have more or less lost their taste for vampires, but not garlic or other members of the garlic family probably. it’s also one of the flavours that most clearly stays in the bloodstream. it’s not poisonous or repellant by any stretch of the imagination, but it is unexpectedly strong. it entirely depends on the vampire how much they avoid it, a matter of taste. some don’t mind it. some hate it, enough so the myth exists.
house permissions is only a problem if theres a ward on the building. these are pretty rare. i’ve made a post about wards and sacred ground already, [HERE], and though it is written pretty sarcastically and Old Man Yells At Cloud-y it does also accurately describe how wards work. im actually not sure if i described what the end product is. it’s like an invisible wall. most of the time that’s all it is, but some mages/paladins also know how to put defensive measures on it to shock whatever’s trying to get in. and it keeps out vampires and shapeshifters and we’re going into a whole NOTHER post there so put a reminder on that.
vampires dont have blood of their own theyve gotta steal it. this means they cant drink alcohol straight, or take drugs straight, because theres nothing in their veins to dilute the effects and they fucking black out or whatever effect at 100% for like 3 weeks straight. caffeine is a weird one (and by that i mean i havent made an executive decision on it yet because it would be mean to him to not let him drink coffee). i specificy ‘straight’ they can drink blood of drunk/high people and experience the effects. eli likes to experiment pairing different alcohols with different blood flavours like how you can get at fancy restaurants sometimes.
^ this is also why stakes through the heart dont work. the heart isnt actually doing anything most of the time? just for like an hour or two after feeding (cardio system isnt actually that much changed it just goes dormant most of the time). so if you stab it, that just means you have a hurting and pissed off vampire. the actual worry happens later when the vampire cant process any blood theyve drunk. so they kindof just have to starve and wait until the healing factor fixes it. but the healing factor is slowed because they cant drink blood to like,, fuel it. so for like a month this pissed off, hurting, starving vampires just gotta sit there and wait until their heart’s healed again. basically don’t do this.
iwtv and castlevania went hard with the bloody tears so im stealing that. except it’s not actually blood, it’s like how painted statues can look like theyre bleeding from iron in the pigments mixing with water… does a vampire need iron? probably not. so i guess it’s a waste product idk
vampirism is spread through venom (but not in the twilight way we made it good). in theory evolutionarily humans and vampires have a cooperative symbiotic relationship (we are talking neolithic here) but in practice the cooperative bit’s been dropped BUT the abilities are still there. so in small doses the venom heals wounds so a vampire can feed on a human without killing them. in larger doses (if the venom overpowers the bloodstream) then the transformation begins. i think. this bit’s all under construction still but i’ve yet to come up with another idea in the months-year+ ive been thinking about it.
thralls? let’s talk about thralls. it’s another venom-based thing, but it’s the consumption of venom instead of being infected(?) with it. eli avoids it, he’s a big fan of free will. if a magic user gets a hold of some venom they can cast a spell to make people obey them, but if the respective vampire is still in the picture their commands take priority on the thrall. is there a limit to what a thrall can be commanded to do? idk. i think it manifests as the thrall having unquestioning trust in the vampire. they can still think for themselves, but a direct command is just like “ha, im sure eli knows what he’s doing” *walks directly into incoming traffic*
as you can see this is a combination of like, every different vampire media plus some popular tumblr posts, plus my own thing ive got going for me. i pick and choose bits that i like and leave out bits i dont.
also i think these vampires would be more accurately classified as viruses than any living* thing and i think that’s cool.
i like speculative biology, and i don’t much care for religion, and i think handwaving “it’s just magic, it doesnt NEED to make sense” is the easy option and also short sighted. i have a very religion-like faith in science in that i believe there will always be a scientific explanation, and if there isn’t then we just havent found it yet.
oh and the usual heightened senses + speed/reflexes ofc . exactly how much faster i’m not sure of.
and ☝️ pointed ears. not usually enough to raise suspicions though… maybe this will change after the first shapeshift i had that written in the drafts see

ok. not Many things have changed since i wrote this. but some have been Updated. so we’re going to tell this like a;
PATCH UPDATE: version: who even knows at this point.
[note that updates have already been running for some time.]
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM OVERHAULED: we’re in the later stages of testing venom as blood. circulatory system is connected to the fangs. the heart now has two reasons to beat; processing blood that has been drunk (slower than a human heartbeat, ~2 hours after feeding, less if nonlethal, SUBJECT TO CHANGE), and while venom is being expelled through the fangs (faster than a human heartbeat, anywhere from a few seconds to a couple minutes). also adds drama to injuries because they can finally bleed! we’re considering venom to be black or silver in colour. i do not yet know the effects of a vampire bleeding out all of their venom. they’re probably fine, turning a healthy person into a vampire requires at least 2 and a half litres of venom, that’s half the volume of a human bloodstream, and it’s probably the same for a vampiric bloodstream.
MORE VENOM STUFF: i’m pretty sure i mentioned Somewhere that venom feels ice cold to the touch/if a human is injected. but it’s not in the above post. so i’m putting it here.
SCLERA(/VEIN?) COLOUR CHANGE: we are in the VERY EARLY stages of testing different sclera colours - likely only after excessive feeding. related to venom colour above and haemoglobin. realistically the scleras would go from bright red -> dark red -> rusty brown -> black/silver -> eventually returning to white as the vampire processes the haemoglobin into venom. STILL UNDER HEAVY DEVELOPMENT i need to think about him killing lots of people first 😌🎉. and as for the veins idk man i just think it looks cool however i haven’t Really thought about it too hard. we will work on it. black veins is a venom thing.
ACCENT [elijah specific]: i mean i’m sure there are periods of time where they have an unplaceable accent but as of my current timeline as of Today (as in 2025 in canon) he’s been back in scotland for like. 70 years. and he spent his first 20+ years there. and he’s travelled a Lot but he goes back to scotland often enough that their sister’s descendants know about them as an ‘old family legend.’ so i mean there’s probably hints of other places. but he’s scottish. dont know why i ever said that in the first place 🧐 ive known this.
CAFFEINE?: no caffeine. it counts as a drug 😔 sorry king- i mean . professor. unless you want to be jittery for a month straight? no coffee. this is why you have tea instead. i know nothing about tea. but you can drink it to blend in and create community and also it is just nice :> or at least that is what tea drinkers say.
INFUSED IRON: a material that is made by infusing. some iron. with vampire venom. this material can be created in the actual forging process or by taking an existing iron object and soaking it in venom for some time (months/years - the longer the better). this has been in the works for months now! it was likely already almost completely developed when i originally posted this ask, to the point where i don’t know why i didn’t share it. i was wondering if vampire venom could have any other effects, and figured it might have a reaction if combined with ordinary iron (as opposed to iron in blood).
infused iron doesn’t rust, and has the essence of the vampire who made it bound to it. if forged into a blade, any wounds caused by it will bleed harder but heal much quicker. these blades tend to be known as witch’s knives or blood blades. it’s also known to be used for marking specific humans for safekeeping, usually as forged into jewellery; if a human is wearing infused iron, vampires will know that one of their own could be looking out for that human. they might even be able to recognise the individual who forged it, if they’ve met before.

eli didnt even think about marrying jude until they met her parents and they were like “hey man are you gonna ask for our daughters hand in marriage or what because you guys have definitely got something inseparable going on” and they were like Oh Ya ☝️ Thats A Thing I Can Do I Forgot I Could Do That 🧐 so they do and she says yes because ofc she does and thats great and then like maybe a year or less later they turn her into a vampire and that’s fine and everythings great.
except it’s not . eli gets super aspec with it within like a couple decades and like. the love is still there or whatever. but they want different things from each other <- we’re having an everything-repulsed day here . infer. im not going to make myself feel ill for you. and so jude’s like, hey let’s kill 2 birds with one stone, i’m gonna go off and find out who i am without you because my whole life has revolved around you since i was like 24 or something, and also figure out my own path with the whole “im now a completely different species” thing, we’ll find each other again i’m sure but i think we need this. and eli’s like yeah youre right ill miss you though ☹️ and she’s like youll be fine 🙄 because she’s a liiiiiittle bitter.
and so she goes off and has a hot girl summer for agesssss like we’re talking decades if not a century. kisses girls, slaughters thousands etc. and eli’s chillin. theyre used to being alone. and sure their whole favourite person ever is not here but it’s ok because she’s immortal and they know she’s out there somewhere and she can take care of herself. everyone theyve ever cared about is dead but not her yayyy we love the bare minimum. or something. we’re still working out details idk exactly what they were doing. they probably kill a few more people than strictly necessary too. who gives a fuck yayy murder yayy vampires YAYY BEING REALLY BAD AT EMOTIONS theyre just like me fr
anyway eventually they find each other again and jude’s probably come into her own at this point as a like, fucking terrifying and extremely capable living weapon (she was a knight viking in life, and now she’s got teeth and an endless list of excuses). and also figured out bigenderism. or genderfluidity something. it is like, 1300ce at this point, the word hasnt been invented yet. anyway so they live together for a while again. neither of them had taken their rings off, but they werent wearing them as wedding rings either - eli’s on a necklace chain, jude’s on her right hand instead of her left - and they stay that way. no one brings up divorce, but they do talk about their marriage and decide that yeah, they’re still super devoted to each other and love/care about each other and are each other’s favourite person ever, and that even if romance doesn’t really work for them anymore (if it ever really did?) the devotion is what matters.
so they keep the rings and they live together for a bit. jude gets involved with other people and eli’s like, ok sure whatever fine, because to me polyamory and aromanticism are beautiful twin babies (that are actually triplets with bisexuality 🙂↕️ and also they have a cool sibling called nonbinary i’m calling them “the idgaf siblings”) that all understand each other. eli only cares that jude doesnt get hurt and if she does offers to torment whoever’s responsible (but chances are she’s already done it) and if that doesn’t work is there to comfort her.
[200 years in uhhhhh we’re thinking about a plot point here maybe… that plot point being “do they or do they not raise a child” this is entirely hypothetical at the moment but i’ve been thinking about Maybe doing that. based on “hypothetically, if half-vampires exist in this world, this mythos, what does that look like?” and basically i’m thinking if an unborn child is exposed to vampire venom (say, if the mother (was ill/plain unfortunate) and a vampire (doctor like eli treated/exposed) her (with/to) venom, not knowing that half-vampires were possible). it’s a work in progress. there’s angst with like, one of eli’s few morals is that they won’t turn someone into a vampire if that person isnt willing… and like, they didnt know… but still. and so like 2 years later the parents turn up on their doorstep and 1) demand answers, 2) admit they cannot raise this toddler with supernatural strength and vampiric hunger (who may or may not have killed someone?) and 3) ABANDON that toddler with these fuckass VAMPIRES who have never even CONSIDERED raising a child and are WOEFULLY UNPREPARED for this. and theyre like super mad at the parents for just ABANDONING this toddler with them (they do get that these humans could NOT handle all that but STILL they barely let them think about it before they took off). anyway but they do raise the kid. theyre not great at it, but they do try their best. but this kid is half human and the most recently one of them was human was 200 years ago. this guy’s gonna be peculiar as fuckkkk, but functional.
also this kid is probably going to be a distant descendant of eli’s sister. that’s why the human parents trusted eli in the first place - they’re like an old family legend that shows up every now and then. great (great-times-something) uncle elijah. this part IS real. but we’re still cooking on the kid. they turn out musically talented. idk. but know if this becomes real it’s entirely for dynamic science purposes. jude has basically zero maternal instinct. eli is slightly better at it, but is definitely more of an uncle than a father. both of them tend to mentor them more than anything else. the kid has a LOT of autonomy, which is something theyve got going for them at least. they taught them how to eat people at age, like, 7. they had to figure out their own moral stance on that later, which is of course very complicated and probably a little contradictory, since unlike true vampires they can choose between human and animal blood.]
^ the point of all that is that julijah DO eventually hit their stride with their dynamic. whether that is through stressor of raising a child or simply just over time ??idk. i wanted a catalyst for them to lock in a dynamic, and i was also canvassing half-vampires around the same time, the ideas came together.
they’re each others constant and although they do get involved with other people (mostly jude but it’s not unheard of for eli to also go off) they always eventually come back to each other. the kid Is a character in my mind but i am not ready to share them… theyre not just a lampshade or a cardboard cutout… ohh [REDACTED] you do hit as a character on occasion…
anyway after that they’re on-again-off-again for the rest of eternity except theyre never really Off.. just Separated. and chill. casual but weird about each other.
i think by modern day they do still consider themselves married to the other but they havent actually lived together for more than a few months at a time in like, centuries. mobile phones are a breakthrough where they’ll each have phases where they wont text for months at a time and phases where they are in constant conversation (“saw a snail on the sidewalk today… effervescent…”). i think eli’s far more likely to actually drop the phrase “my wife/husband” (jude likes both descriptors) in conversation than jude is which you’d think would be backwards but it isnt because i know them. personally.
the topic of offically divorcing is like, a completely (legally) false concept since they got married 900 years ago and do NOT have the paperwork for that 💀 so they’d have to get married again if they want to get divorced . which i mean.. i wouldnt put it past them. theyve probably considered it for a laugh
just spent half an hour going through my lego minifigures to put together lego versions of the goobers (ocs) does anyone want to see. yea u do
if you ask me what colour eli’s hair is i will say “it looks black most of the time but it’s dark red under light”
and yes some of these are from the actual lego vampires set which i was able to find. most. of (they’re both missing their pants. she’s supposed to have a skirt made from a slanted 2x2 with a print on it and dracula’s pants are black with some small print details on) so i decided to put them in the full outfits
the amount of cops and 80s spacemen i had to dig through to find the good stuff…
