Who am I brief
For the Who am I brief I wanted to create a piece influenced by the types of art I like, the types of techniques I use and the skills I like to refine in my spare time.
We were tasked with depicting ourselves through 10 out of 13 categories.
The categories I picked were:
1. Food (Ice cream)
2. Pastime (Painting)
3. Book (Looking for Alaska)
4. Animal (Tiger)
5. Place (Rome)
6. Weather ( Fall leaves falling)
7. Clothes (My floppy hat and Fur coat)
8. Shoes (Trainer addiction)
9. Music (Nirvana)
10, Posession (Camera)

Summer project moodboard 1
After taking the first lot of pictures of my friends a couple of weeks ago, I heard one of them (Izzy) say that she dresses differently in London, her hometown, to when she gets back to uni here. I was intrigued by this so I asked her to restyle the outfit she previously wore, to how she would wear it in London. It was clear she added more visible statement pieces- before pairing that bomber with jeans and a t shirt she looked casual and practical. Adding a feminine jumpsuit and red lipstick to Dr martens and the jacket gave a more edgy, androgynous feel.
I decided this would be a good continuation of the street style project I did in module 1 and the pictures featured in my last portfolio from GFW. I took them in a fairly basic location and had a play around with lighting and angles before editing them into a mood board with the first pictures too.
A few basic street style photo’s I took of my friends to experiment with lighting, angles, shadows and editing.
Well last time I did one of these I had just finished my first module, only now I’ve finished my first year. I still feel the same about my course as I did last year- excited to learn more but unsure of what area I would like to go into.
Because of where I’m at and where I want to be, I’m going to re-evaluate my likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses and re-do my stop, start and continue.
Likes:
- I still really love photography and I feel i’ve come a long way with it. I understand lighting and angles a lot more and feel confident using Photoshop and Lightroom to create interesting pieces or effects
- I have also developed a liking for blogging and writing, before I saw it as quite a tedious task but now that I have found my footing in what I like to write about and what inspires me, I find it quite enjoyable.
- I still love producing mood boards and having a play around on Photoshop, I don’t think that’s something I’ll ever get sick of!
Dislikes:
- I still don’t like reading theory (of course)
- I also don’t like IT sessions. This isn’t to say I don’t like using the software or learning new things but I find it difficult to quickly follow along a lecturers instructions- I prefer to learn how to use a program through experimentation whilst sitting at home at my own pace.
Strengths:
- I would say Writing is definitely one of my strengths. I feel I am quite good at explaining theory and ideas in written form as well as writing my own blog pieces. One of my favourite pieces of work I have done was the deconstruction of an image by a photographer. I really enjoyed being able to research the piece and find cultural and social influences behind it.
Weaknesses:
- Mood boards! Although I love creating them, I am still pushing and practicing frequently on grid and minimal layouts. It’s just something I can’t seem to get the hang of. I am never fully happy with a grid or minimal layout I have produced but I have noticed improvements as I practice.
Stop:
- Stressing! About deadlines, about not being as good at something as I think I should be, about not getting the highest grade (You get the jist)
Start:
- Creating visual timelines etc of tasks, briefs and deadlines for room so as not to miss or forget something by missing it in my journal.
Continue:
- Researching in my own time, staying inspired and paying attention to social, cultural or political events that could influence or inspire my work.

Love this collection so much! Obsessed with the ethereal fabrics and colours mixed with slight 70′s silhouettes.
Zoe Kravitz; The new face of the teen generation?
Perhaps like me you have noticed Zoe Kravitz’ sudden appreciation in the fashion world or perhaps you’ve only just realised who she is (actor/musician/model/love child of Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz) but either way the young stars popularity has dramatically increased in the last year.
Now although the actress has been in the industry a good few years starring in hit films like ‘No Reservations’, ‘The Brave One’ and ‘X-Men:First Class’, the stars sudden breakthrough in the media and reason for mass public obsession might have been due to her supporting role in best selling book adaptation ‘Divergent’. Due to this, over the last two years, we have seen her on best dressed lists continuously and grace the covers of magazines like Elle, Marie Claire, Complex and Tidal.
The star’s widely appreciated in fashion for her mix of african culture and grunge. Often pairing minimalistic silhouettes with masses of accessories, studs and edgy makeup it’s no wonder Kravitz collaborated with Alexander Wang at one point- a collaboration easy to imagine with such a similar design aesthetic.
Coming from such a cultural background with a wild, artistic, rebellious personality it’s not hard to see why she is fast becoming a fan favourite both in fashion and as an it girl amongst young people. With new roles in movies like ‘Mad Max: fury road’, ‘Dope’ and ‘The Divergent series: Allegiant part one’ it will be interesting to see where the young actress takes her style and how she sustains in the media.
To keep the techniques on Photoshop and other software in my head, I have planned to keep producing and developing mood boards over the summer. Not only does it help me remember processes and techniques, it also helps to expand my practice in layouts, colour and design.
This one is based on the marine colours and details seen in the trends of SS15 collections.

The Addams Family
Recently I have been thinking about the connection between film and fashion. Whether it’s in TV, music videos or cinema it’s always there and its something often talked about. With the rising impact of digital content and social media it’s easier to see the two art forms intertwined and being inspired by a recent Dazed and Confused article, I decided to detail my 10 favourite fashion influences throughout Fashion and Media.
- Starting with the all black sleek goth Addams Family look which I think has been the reason my wardrobe has pretty much always been all black, edgy and well a bit unfeminine (much to my mothers despair.)

Rihanna- BBHMM music video
Rihanna is infamous for her everchanging, bold and daring style and nothing depicts this better then her brand new video- Bitch Better Have My Money. The film explores cult cinema references such as ‘Carrie’, ‘Thelma and Louise’ and ‘The Doom Generation’ whilst showing 90′s and 60′s items mixed with modern urban styling and accessories.
