So, it's been a while since I've had a new "MARJORIE" strip to share as I've been busy with both the finale of "Dandy & Company" and the Kickstarter for "Finding Dee #3", but I wanted to make an update to let you know this comic was still on the agenda. I'm still working on developing a pitch package of apx. 48 strips to send to publishers and syndicates with the plan of eventually publishing them online broadly if those pitches don't go anywhere. I've got a TON of ideas for Marjorie and the world I'm developing within her imagination and I hope folks find her adventures as fun as I do MAKING them. Only time will tell, however. As such, this Sunday strip is being put up on the PATREON as an example of the strip's tone and concept. So, here's the FIRST short #cartoon for my planned series of #animated #DandyandCompany #toons called #ShortCuts. It's only about 30 seconds of very rough #animation designed to introduce the general concept. After a lot of consideration, I decided that short, rough #cartoons were a good idea as they allow me to cut my proverbial teeth and learn my way around the technology and have fun before even CONSIDERING doing anything long form or in finished color at this time. I performed the.voice of Bernard here and Dandy is voiced by Todd Fisher. (I need to revise the titles to include credits so Todd and anyone else who helps or provides voices have their names on screen as well in the actual cartoons to follow.) Hope you dig it. :)
So, in 1982 when I was only 8, I ripped off #Peanuts, #Garfield, and #BugsBunny to create my own comic strip staring a sarcastic, prank loving dog called #Dandy Yeah, for the first few years of his existence, he looked like a bad rip off of #Snoopy but with time and experience I revised and refined his design to what he looks like today. But I'm still surprised that after THIRTY FIVE YEARS, I'm not only still passionate about drawing new comics with these #characters but that there are other people that are just as excited to READ them. At this point, I don't think I'll EVER be finished with these guys while I'm still kicking.
So, the first time I got one of the IDW Publishing #Ghostbusters comics was the #GhostbustersGetReal trade, collecting the story of the comic Ghostbusters (Which is essentially the original film continuity) crossing over with the animated #TheRealGhostbusters reality. Twas a GREAT read. Now, there are 9 existing volumes of comic continuity for me to catch up on, BUT I just grabbed the 1st issue of the new #Ghostbusters101 by the same creative team of Erik Burnham and Dan Schoening that has been comic Ghostbusters for #IDW for years now perfectly. Now, this new issues needs to catch readers up with those 9 plus volumes of adventures while still bringing the 2016 Ghostbusters into the series and the do so with incredible ease while still making a great, fun comic. Which is why I'm writing this post. I've been reading comics my while life and I love 'em. But the mentality of Marvel and DC upper management has been, for years now, that continuity is an impenetrable quagmire to be disregarded and destroyed in order to attract new readers. And I have ALWAYS disagreed with that mentality. When I started reading comics, my first Spider-Man comic was an amazing Spider-Man issue somewhere in the 200's. There was already 2 DECADES of continuity. But I never felt lost or confused because the writers back then wrote each issue like it was someone's first. The books were all ABOUT their continuity and the made me excited to learn more. VERY few comics are written like this these days. #Ghostbusters from @idwpublishing is totally one of these comics. If all you had ever seen were the first two films, Erik Burnham catches you up SO naturally and engagingly that now I can't wait to get all the other trades I've missed. This is how ongoing comics should always be handled. If you like ANY version of the Ghostbusters, read this comic. You will be happy.

Finding Focus... Or at least trying.
So, the last few months have been a particularly trying time for me creatively. As a cartoonist, what I love the most is telling stories. All kinds of stories. It's why I've self published books that are fantasies, adventures, slice of life yarns and slapstick comedies. I have all these stories and FAR more in me wanting to get out. But there are only so many hours in the day and I also like to have a life. As such, I can only produce so many new books a year. And that's near the root of my problem. Right now, I'm writing and drawing THREE ongoing comic projects. My fantasy/adventure graphic novel series "The Wellkeeper", my comedy webcomic "Dandy and Company" and my autobiographical webcomic "Finding Dee". I've also just re-scripting and re-lettered a superhero series I published back in the mid-90's called "Apparition" and have a pitch for a new series called "Marjorie of the Weirdlings" that I'd love to develop further. Of course, I'm only one woman and can't do all of this. But what I also can't seem to do is COMMIT to just one project and give it my full attention. And I'm beginning to feel like that would probably be best for me from a career perspective. It would absolutely be easier to push and promote JUST ONE comic, But I just don't seem to know how to do that. And more and more, this is making it harder and harder to concentrate on just one project. So I put this out there for all to see. What do YOU all think I should do? What are the stories you want to see me create? What is the comic you would rather BUY? Should I keep creating as many different titles as possible or streamline my efforts into ONE comic or even animations? I really need some feedback. Thanks.
