A Pokemon mashup! I had a blast drawing this and I think I'll be doing more in the future.
Here it is, all finished up. Just a few touch ups when the paint dries, and it'll be ready to ship. I'm excited to get to some other projects that I've had on hold while getting this done.
Teaser sketch of an upcoming project!
Session 2 of custom sign painting! I did the underlay sketch in white coloring pencil and then painted over the sketch. I'll let this dry overnight and then come back and touch up any places are too translucent and clean up the edges. Stay tuned for the finale tomorrow!
Doing the background color for one of my current sign orders. The wooden sign, brush, and paint all came from Michael's. The Artist's Loft acrylic paint shown here is a great beginner's paint. They're pretty cheap, but lay down smoothly, cover well, and wash out of your brushes easily. I recommend them to anyone who wants to get into painting without breaking the bank. The grey easily covered the darker wood in one coat. More to come in the process tomorrow! Also, I'm still taking orders for custom, hand painted signs. If you or someone you know is interested in state outlines, state or country flags, sports logos, quotes, cartoon characters, etc., just send a message for pricing! Thank you!
Batman approved!
Here's a weird old hag lady. I'm not happy with the nose or mouth, but I like the rest, particularly the head scarf.
MFW I realize that I've already missed a daily drawing on day 3 of the new year.
Another Painted Sign!
My first art sale of the year has come in the form of another painted sign! A friend of my mother's liked hers so much, she asked if I could do one for her as well. Of course I agreed!
This time, I'd like to do a better job documenting the process for you guys, so look for pictures and maybe a video coming soon!
This is the very first step in monetizing my art. The more I'm able to do that, the closer I am to becoming a self-supported and financially stable artist. That being said, if you or someone you know might be interested in purchasing your very own hand painted sign, please message me! (Note: if this generates enough interest, I'll create an Etsy shop listing for these signs).
I'm open to just about anything:
State or country flags
Quotes
Sports team logos
Skylines/cityscapes
Videogame or cartoon characters
Etc.
I look forward to what the future holds and thank you for your support!
An easy daily drawing to kick off the new year. Go Tigers!
I stepped out of my comfort zone and painted this sign for my mom. I’m pleased with how it turned out - so much so that I may tackle some other paintings in the future!
If you're interested in your very own custom sign, please see my recent post for details.
Upcoming...
With 2017 in the rearview mirror and 2018 approaching fast, I thought it would be a good time to set some goals for the new year.
Goal 1:
I'm committing to at least 10 minutes of drawing a day from January 1 - Dec 31. Every drawing will be posted here whether it's finished or not and whether I'm happy with the outcome or not.
Goal 2:
I'll start posting additional content (inspirations, tutorials, video clips, process pics, etc.) in January. I'm coming into the year with a goal of one of these types of posts a week and I'll adjust as needed.
Goal 3:
I'll begin posting drawing time lapses on YouTube by February 1. I have to buy some equipment and learn to use it first, but then I intend to have regular time lapse videos and tutorials posted.
So, that's what you have to look forward to in the coming year! We're starting slow, but the speed will pick up with the daily drawings and the extra content.
I'm truly excited to see where next year takes me and I hope that my journey helps even just one person out there! Thank you all for your support!
Here's a quick sketch of Santa I just finished up. Merry Christmas every one!
Hand studies from a few weeks ago as well. See, I can do more than doodle!
Here's a face study from a few weeks ago. Still pretty far from where I want to be, but significantly better than where I've been.
I did another doodle at lunch today, this time of a pirate captain. I haven't had much motivation to draw lately, so these really cartoony characters that I don't have to think too much about have been a lot of fun.
