Coffee shop au where Ash owns a coffee shop (in Lumiose i think??) and Serena is an aspiring actress BUT THERE'S ALSO TEAM ROCKET PLOT (the bad guys not the trio) and the alola kids all work there and ash is all of their big brother 🥺

An absolute blast of a fic. so fun. Basically Ash and Serena return to Kalos at the same time and Shenanigans/Feelings Ensue. Also Calem is there (my shayla he has so much character arc ahead of him I can feel it) the writing style is also so good and so fun and the characterization of the characters are just iconic its so good

Headcannon: You cannot go anywhere in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, or Galar without meeting someone whose had a life saving or changing encounter with Ash Ketchum.

Ash himself doesn't know the effect he has on these people, after all he was on his pokemon journey and rarely had time to stop anywhere for more than a day or two. Except in Alola where there is no gym challenge, no reason to rush, and for the first time since he and Pikachu set out they're seeing the same towns full of the same people every day.

It's a little disorienting for them at first. They'd been nomadic for so long that staying in one place feels counterintuitive. For a while they have this nagging feeling that they should be moving on by now. That they have to go somewhere but slowly they realize they don't. Slowly they start to relax. The repetition that they worried might be boring, the schedule they thought be constricting actually turns out kind of soothing. And when they help people, they get to actually see for once how big of a difference said help actually makes. And other people help them just as much. Of course, this is temporary, after all they have no intention of stopping or settling down any time soon but when they do, if they do, they think they'll do it here.

I was thinking about it, and... When it comes to fan fiction or just AU ideas in general, I sort of feel like giving Ash a bunch of "cool" or "strong" Pokémon kind of misses the point. Or it's so illogical with the character Ash is that it sort of gets to the point of being out of character.

That might sound kinda weird, but there's a point to this! I'm going somewhere with it!

As big as Ash dreams, and much as he likes battling, what he's really here for is making friends. That's the most important thing for Ash when it comes to catching Pokémon! Making a new friend.

But other trainers might not be that way. Even kind ones who are great friends to their Pokémon. So many are going to have an idea of the kind of Pokémon they want on their teams, and if they get along with one they don't... well, surely, someone else will want that Pokémon, right?

So what happens to the Pokémon that no one wants to catch? The ones that aren't cool or strong enough, the ones most trainers wouldn't give a second thought about? What happens to the Pokémon that get rejected and left behind? The ones with quirks who don't go along with the way their species usually does things? The ones who never want to evolve? What happens to those Pokémon with big dreams that no one will choose?

... I can't buy the idea that Ash would never run into a Pokémon like that. Heck, Pikachu's one of them! But even if you don't count him... I still can't believe the idea.

Ash is going to catch "weak" or "uncool" Pokémon, and he's going to catch Pokémon that never evolve, and he's going to welcome them with open arms. He's going to look at what trainers are "supposed" to do and say "no", for no other reason than he loves and respects his Pokémon, his friends, with all his heart.

That's just the kind of person he is.
