Who’s eligible: The first 5,000 people to register. You need to be an Android user, obviously. And you should use Tumblr every day—because that’s where the bugs are. You can’t find bugs if you’re not using the app!

How it works: You’ll test each new release about a week before it goes public. When you see a bug, shake your phone with gleeful rage. Rage-shaking opens an email. Describe the bug and hit send.

What you should know: You’ll be looking for bugs, which means there are bugs to look for. Don’t register if you’re expecting a bug-free experience. But if you get tired of bugs, you can leave the beta program at any time.

OK so here’s how to use xkit real easy w/ pictures 

First open a new tap and search for “The new xkit”

Open the link that takes you to the chrome webstore

ok then just follow the instructions to add xkit as an extension

Once you’ve done that open up tumblr and xkit will begin loading. A lil popup will show up and just press “Refresh page and begin using xkit.”

then you’ll see a little popup on the xkit icon, click it and cancel the tutorial.and then click it again to bring the xkit box back up. then on the bottom bar, click the “Get Extensions” tab

Now you see a list of all possible extensions to add so just scroll down on that list and look for these things: 1. editable reblogs

once you find it just click the green install button. be sure you haven’t installed the “edible reblogs” extension which is different from editable reblogs, and not at all what you want. 

Also I recommend getting Classic Notifications, Classic Search and Tag Viewer

Once you’ve installed those or whatever you like, go back to the bottom bar and click the “My xkit” tab, this will let you customize your extensions

Click on whatever extension you want to customize, note that some extensions come pre-loaded. use the mini scroll bar to scroll through customization options and check/uncheck the boxes of whatever you like. Be aware that some extensions do not have any customizable options. Most of the ones i’ve suggested do not but that is because they are quite simple, singular function extensions that don’t need it. Once you’ve customized to your liking, hit the update button. You technically shouldn’t need to do that, but i like to, just to make sure. 

Now say you’re unhappy with an extension or you accidentally installed edible reblogs instead of editable reblogs, and you want to uninstall one. simply click on that extension, still in the “My xkit” tab and click the uninstall button

That’ll get rid of it. Finally just click anywhere outside of the xkit box to close it and your done. One last thing you’ll probably notice that blue popup notifcation on your screen in the bottom left. to get rid of it forever simply click on it, it will bring the xkit page back open, and click on the news letter to open it. then just close out of it again

Now you’re using xkit and everything is much easier!

Tumblr Savior Tutorial

Because Glee is coming up and I know some people want to avoid spoilers, here’s how you get Tumblr savior! I use chrome so I think this will only work for google chrome. If you have any questions about it, I’m probably not gonna be a great source of help, but I’ll try. Again, I only know how to do it for chrome so please don’t ask me how to do it for any other browser. Also, I’m pretty sure it’s safe.

Step 1: Go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/oefddkjnflmjbclpnnoegglmmdfkidip

Click install or whatever it says!

Step 2: Once it’s finished installing, click on the wrench in the toolbar.

Step 3: Scroll down to “tools”, then click “extensions”

Step 4: Find tumblr savior in your list of extensions. Click “options” (after “Disable” and “Uninstall”

Step 5: Add the tags you want to be blocked to your “black list” and the tags you always want to appear to your “white list”. You can edit this whenever you want. Also, you can click the preferences you want for tumblr savior at the top.

Wa-la! You can uninstall or disable this whenever you want. I hope this helps! 

It’s a great way to stop spoilers from appearing on your dash (well at least from the people who tag spoilers) and I like it because it blocks shows/things I don’t really care about (to put it bluntly) and I don’t have to unfollow anyone!

NOTE: For me personally, I’m going to tag everything that comes up before Tuesday with “Glee spoilers” and “spoilers” so you can add those to your black list if you want to refrain from spoilers. And on Tuesdays, I’m going to tag things with the episode name so just block that. (For example, this Tuesday, they will be tagged with “The Purple Piano Project” so if you’re not watching it when it airs here and you don’t want to be spoiled, blacklist it!)

Sure! :)  Do you have xKit and or Tumblr Savior installed on your web browser? These only work on computers, not phone apps unfortunately. (Hopefully they’re working on that!)

Tumblr Savior and xKit  are extensions you can add on Google Chrome or Firefox (I’m not sure what other browsers they’re compatible with) that will drastically improve your tumblr experience! They both have lots of cool features to help eliminate things you don’t want to see on your blog, but the black list feature is the best one. 

Here is a great Tumblr Savior tutorial 

Once you install TS - you’ll see the little “T” icon your browser extensions, and  then when you click on it, you’ll see the black list and white list. On the black list - you can list words that you want tumblr to block for you. It can be keywords, triggers, ship names, fandoms, movie names, basically anything you wan to keep off of your dash. So for example, you would list a spoiler tag there like “CACW spoilers”.

On the white list, you would add words, names, ships etc that you want to make sure don’t get blocked from your dash. The only downside to the white list is that if you have a post that contains both blacklist and white list words, the post won’t get filtered. So for example, if you black list “Kate Argent” but you white list “Derek Hale” and there’s a post containing both of their names, the post won’t get blocked. So just keep that in mind when making the lists.

xKit has a lot more options and cool extensions within it - and it’s best to play around with the settings to see which features you might like to use - but the most important one you want is the “Black list” extension. It works very similarly to TS, (with a white list also) but it really helps to have both of these extensions. You don’t need to have both, but I find that it helps to have them if there are any particular posts, tags, subjects, etc that you really ant to keep off of your dash. 

It won’t ever be foolproof or block everything 100% (especially when people don’t tag their posts) but they’re both amazing to have. And anytime you want to remove something from any of your lists, just click the little ‘x’ next to them, and that’s it. With xKit, it will delete it automatically when you remove it, but with TS you have to always make sure and SAVE the changes at the bottom. Always save all changes to TS, because I have learned from painful experience that you’ll lose all new changes if you don’t.

Just wanted to let you all know - I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been getting inbox spam lately - starts with ‘hi’ or similar and if you reply you quickly end up with a request for photos or private chat. They have blogs with nothing on, fairly nondescript urls and a selfie of a young woman as their avatar. I wanted to give my advice for younger/vulnerable people on here, so I hope you’ll forgive me sounding like your mum. Here’s my suggestion, if you get a message from someone you don’t know and who isn’t following you, with an empty blog: Don’t reply to the message. Mark it as spam if you want to - I’ve started doing that. Don’t ever send pictures of yourself. Don’t feel pressured into chatting with someone you don’t know or sharing anything personal. I have no clue what the gain is for people doing this but I guess they are hoping people will get talked into sharing images. Stay safe. If you’re not sure something is a good idea, it probably isn’t - trust your instinct. If you feel uncomfortable, stop. Ask someone in real life that you trust - a parent, a responsible adult.. Look after yourselves and avoid nonsense.

Tumblr Sidebar Fix v1.6

Tumblr’s incompetent code monkeys managed to make their code run even slower than before. Pushed an update that should fix the breakage with today’s unannounced code change on Tumblr’s part.

@ Firefox Users: Yes, the sidebar briefly will appear twice (instead of once like before) when you first load your dash. No, I haven’t found any usable workaround for this. There’s probably not an easy way to fix this because their code is polymorphic garbage that behaves differently on FF than Chrome (FF starts with the menu open, Chrome starts with the menu closed). It would either require a lot of extra  code on my part, or something kludgy like browser User-Agent checking, and for the very minor visual attractiveness, it’s not worth the effort.

1.) Download and install Adblock Plus. 

2.) Goto “Options”. Then “Add Your Own Filters”.

Tumblr Sidebar v1.5

Pushed a small bugfix update to my sidebar script yesterday! Fixes a couple styling bugs on the Transparent and Dark versions, and should (hopefully) fix a bug where Chrome users are getting horizontal scrollbars in the sidebar in some situations.

Flag/Report Post Moved on Tumblr’s Dashboard Tumblr dropped the three-dots icon on the Dashboard, moving flag/report a post to the sharing/airplane icon. Click or tap that paper airplane and scroll along the bottom to reach “Report.”

How to Not See People You Hate On Your Dash

The Tumblr block feature is really nice for when someone is actively harassing you and you don’t want them to contact you. However, it will not stop people from appearing on your dash. 

This fix obviously and unfortunately doesn’t work on mobile, but will not affect your x-kit if you already have it installed, even if you use the blacklist feature. 

Step 1: Install Tumblr Savior (Chrome or Firefox)

For those of you who don’t know, Tumblr Savior is a blacklisting program. You put words you don’t like in and it makes them go away. 

Step 2: Insert words you would like to not see into the blacklist section

Step 3: Add your url to the whitelist section (optional)

This is because you are blocking a person, and that person may appear in posts like follow forevers that you would like to see. 

Step 4: Click Save

Step 5: Go to ‘Settings’ Tab and Adjust Settings

The things with red dots beside them are the only really important parts, everything else is up to personal preference. 

Show a Notification should be unchecked. This is what actually keeps the posts off your dash. 

Match Whole Words Only should be checked. This will keep you from filtering out unwanted things

Step 6: Scroll Down and Click ‘Save’ on the Settings Page

Step 7: Enjoy Nice Clean Dash

If you would like to block other things, and possibly actually see them, I recommend using x-kit’s blacklist feature. 

You could use whichever program you want as long as one of them is for things you never want to see, and the other is for things you want to know are being hidden from you. I chose to use Tumblr Savior for this tutorial because it is simpler for first-time users or people who do not want any other features besides blocking.

How to Report Spam

The spam in tags is getting out of control and it seems like @staff and @support aren’t able to do much. On top of that, they moved the reporting button to be almost impossible to find. 

See the reblog button? See the little arrow thing to the left of it? Click that.

It’s going to look like it has nothing to do with reporting spam. But trust me and scroll all the way to the right.

WHAT? Why did they hide the report button all the way over there past the share buttons? Click that shit.

Go to THIS IS SPAM. The orange block button will will change to something like REPORT AND BLOCK. Click it. Done.

When using Tag Replacer, you must make sure that ‘Case Sensitive mode’ is checked, otherwise all other tags you got from the ones you wanna replace will be effected and no one wants that.
