How can one block tags? Teach me your ways!!
Sure! :)Ā
Do you have xKit and or Tumblr Savior installed on your web browser? These only work on computers, not phone apps unfortunately. (Hopefully theyāre working on that!)
Tumblr Savior andĀ xKitĀ are extensions you can add on Google Chrome or Firefox (Iām not sure what other browsers theyāre compatible with)Ā that will drastically improve your tumblr experience! They both have lots of cool features to help eliminate things you donāt want to see on your blog, but the black list feature is the best one.Ā
Here is a great Tumblr Savior tutorialĀ
Once you install TS - youāll see the littleĀ āTā icon your browser extensions, and Ā then when you click on it, youāll see the black list and white list. On the black list - you can list words that you want tumblr to block for you. It can be keywords, triggers, ship names, fandoms, movie names, basically anything you wan to keep off of your dash. So for example, you would list a spoiler tag there likeĀ āCACW spoilersā.
On the white list, you would add words, names, ships etc that you want to make sure donāt get blocked from your dash. The only downside to the white list is that if you have a post that contains both blacklist and white list words, the post wonāt get filtered.Ā So for example, if you black listĀ āKate Argentā but you white listĀ āDerek Haleā and thereās a post containing both of their names, the post wonāt get blocked. So just keep that in mind when making the lists.
Here is a great xKit tutorial
xKit has a lot more options and cool extensions within it - and itās best to play around with the settings to see which features you might like to use - but the most important one you want is theĀ āBlack listā extension. It works very similarly to TS, (with a white list also) but it really helps to have both of these extensions. You donāt need to have both, but I find that it helps to have them if there are anyĀ particular posts, tags, subjects, etc that you reallyĀ ant to keep off of your dash.Ā
It wonāt ever be foolproof or block everything 100% (especially when people donāt tag their posts) but theyāre both amazing to have. And anytime you want to remove something from any of your lists, just click the littleĀ āxā next to them, and thatās it. With xKit, it will delete it automatically when you remove it, but with TS you have to always make sure and SAVE the changes at the bottom. Always save all changes to TS, because I have learned from painful experience that youāll lose all new changes if you donāt.Ā
I hope that helps! If you have specific questions about anything, the different extensions, how to install, etc - just message me and I can help you in better detail. :)Ā
