You and your fellow travelers stumble trough the doorway. It's been a long journey, and you seek rest. "Hear! We desire respite!" you cry out. No one immediately answers. As you survey the scene, you notice people of all sorts. Humans, dwarves, even orcs, all sharing a drink. No banners or decorations hang from the dreary walls, and yet pure merriment fills the air. An old man in the corner calls for your attention. His eyes shine crazily, and his beard nearly reaches the floor. His mug of ale spills as he rocks back and forth. It is not his first. "Don't you know where you are? Who owns this tavern? Why, you be in The Bard's Tale, bought with the boon of a dragon! There be no inn here, or rest, only drinking until the sun shows its face! Come! Join me! Have a cold brew! I imagine pact being a two-way soul link. Warlock dies, patron gets a soul that was well fed with magic. Patron dies? Their soul is split into pieces and absorbed by each of the warlocks… that would be interesting story. Group of warlocks wants to put the soul back together and revive their patron. Others want to absorb rest of soul pieces and usurp full patron’s power for themselves
I found this really interesting idea, and if this is the way it works then I’d say that a Highlander style adventure could easily be the best alternative.
