Something I wrote for my long-suffering man lol
Hey, I dunno what I’m feeling
I’ll burst into tears over nothing
I’ll snap at you for no reason
And then wonder why you’re not cuddling
I’m gonna miss being the oven
But you can’t wait til I get shovin
Oh baby I know it’s not been easy
But every girl goes a little crazy
Could be any day now
The tension builds and then fades away now
I know you do the best you can
To be a good and patient man
You know I don’t mind if we live in a box right on the border
I don’t mind having old things if we can’t afford it
All I care about is you and me,
Raising a loving family
Spread the love to several corners of the globe
Trust in life and know that we will cope
To cope is to be alive
Alive means that we can thrive if we choose to.
And when they fly the nest, or when we’ve kicked them out
We’ll still have eachother
We’ll travel to Calcutta
In a caravan
Pregnancy: Closing in on the finish line...
I've begun the 37th week of my pregnancy and definitely on the homestretch now, although it doesn't feel like it.
Me and baby have grown fairly comfortable with one another. Sure, sometimes I feel the discomforts of pregnancy, and there's the difficulty sleeping and weird increase in pins and needles in the arms, and cramps in the legs, but.. I can't and don't really complain. I honestly think this is the most amazing thing in my life and it's just... a miracle to be happening all within my body on such a physical as well as spiritual level.
Emotions have been up and down and they take their toll on my relationship with baby's daddy... but I know I'm so lucky. I knew from quite early on that I wanted to give this man a child. He's the most caring and sweet man..who quite simply, just thinks people should nice. You know how you just think, this person is meant to care for someone? I mean, I could lap it up all myself and just let him care for me, but.. I felt he really needed a child in his world, and, I'd finally found someone I wanted to have one with. A gentle giant.. :)
It's so strange how that can happen.. If you'd asked me not too long before I met him, I might have told you, "I don't know if I want to have kids. It's not a definite in my life, although I know it'd be an amazing, life changing experience". Well, I certainly didn't anticipate trying for a baby until later in life.. but it just goes to show, you don't know ANYTHING about where life can take you! Somehow I just knew I was ready when we started trying, and it was time.
I have stopped working and spend a lot of time at home, resting with baby, reading up recipes and learning how to be a better cook and healthier person. Trying to be a better person and partner. Also doing research on the practicalities of motherhood. Seems like there's SO much information, but deep down, I know that I know the essentials already. It feels so innate, so natural, and people must learn to trust their instincts.
Since investing a new oven, I've gone a lil crazy and obsessed with learning how to bake! You can follow my other blog I've just started up http://www.tbgcooks.tumblr.com which will be dedicated to my culinary adventures.
Thanks for checking in on me, and stick around if you wanna keep me company on wherever the journey takes me !

Volunteering in Thailand Intro. Tips and FAQs.
So if you’re in Thailand and would like to volunteer, this is an excellent idea and doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Volunteering here (and anywhere) is one of the best ways to get that special experience you’re searching for on your travels, as well as building a hopefully good relationship and impression with the local people.
Please click on any of the questions below to find out more...

There are SO many volunteer opportunities in Thailand.. SO MANY it’s actually mind boggling once you tap into the network. I’ve volunteered in Chiang Mai, Mae Tawo, Mae Hong Son, and Mae Sot so I speak from that experience. (Click here to watch a video montage of my volunteering clips)

NOT a QUESTION! Hello, Cherry!!! :) <3
Hello Couz!! What's new?! :)
If you're absent during my struggle, don't expect to be present during my success

IPOH is my Dad's hometown and a lot of tourists skip it because it's a relatively small and quiet town with not much to do. I'd recommend seeing "Kek Lok Toong" if you're in town!
beautiful and breezy just behind the cave.. more info on Kek Lok Tong
Me and my sister on New Year's Day.. in between all the serving and running around after our guests!!
After spending Chinese New Year's in Ipoh we travel onto Malacca, which is my Mum's hometown! This place is booming with tourists and they've really done the place up for the new year. This pic is from downtown at the famous Jonker Walk.
If you're in Melaka on holiday, I'd highly recommend checking out Restoran Bonani which is on "Melaka Raya 3".
It serves North Indian food which may not be what you're supposed to be eating in malaysia but it's too good to miss! :p
Melaka is also famous for it's Satay Celup and Baked Salt crab.. oh.. and Cendol! So be sure to ask around for the best place to get these things !
Cendol with famous Gula melaka that makes all the difference!!
There is an amazing Nasi Biriyani/Roti Chenai Place on the opposite side of the entrance to the Portuguese Settlement in Melaka. I believe it's only open during the days. It's found tucked away behind the fruit shop.. note, not directly opposite but close enough!
That's all for now ! I didn't take too many shots of food this time round cos I was too busy eating it! bwahhaha.. malaysia - i've never really seen it from a tourist's eye but i think the main attraction is the food. .Make sure you do your research well in advance for the best eats though!! there's a lot of mediocre stuff out there to be sure ... but the gems are well worth it ! #malaysianslovetheirfood

The Blood Debt... Goodnight Uncle Tom x
20 Jan 2012
Today my Dad woke me up at 5.30am and me, him and my mum drove to a park in Ipoh whilst it was still dark and walked around the paths until it got light. I was full of energy and chatting away all the while, until the sun gradually broke through the clouds and we could see the aerobics group starting, the swording playing group and the tai chi-ers moving slowly and peacefully in their patch of the park.
I'm so grateful to have these special moments to share with my parents. I guess absence does make the heart grow fonder! I mean, I basically think they're cool and love to hang out with them but something's different now... as I grow up, I realise they're growing older, and these times will not be around forever.
We went to the local market which was in full swing by 7am! Bought home some Roti Chenai, fresh soya milk, steamed pork buns, freshly made pancakes with peanut filling, savoury sticky rice.. basically.. a feast ! I think any calories we worked off in the morning were replenished generously lol
In the afternoon, my Auntie Maggie (Uncle Tom's wife) took me, mum, and another member of the family to donate blood for Uncle Tom. Well, technically it wasn't for him, but rather to pay back his BLOOD DEBT. He'd used 2 pints already from the hospital, and you can either pay back in blood, or pay 200 ringgit per pint, which is about 65USD!! Quite a lot here! Auntie Maggie said he'd probably be needing more blood after next week when he starts the chemo.
I was pretty damn nervous because since an operation on my leg at 17, I developed a completely irrational phobia of needles. I guess most phobias are by nature irrational as it's all in one's head. As a teenager, I couldn't wait to turn 18 so I could donate blood, and then after my phobia, it just never happened.
I so want to fight this silly phobia but the fact that I have famously small veins means that anytime I have to have a blood test, they're poking around for minutes before switching arms and doing the same before they get the vein. It brings me to tears.. :( Then it takes much longer to fill just a tiny syringe's worth. I wondered how I would fare today... and if my blood was even suitable! I didn't wanna seem to be a wimp after all Uncle Tom was going through!
My mum and the other family member were more than up for it and not afraid at all, but after the tests, it turned out that their blood pressure was too high, and that I was the only one that would be able to donate today. They were disappointed.
I was nervous of course but kept brave because I knew I was doing it for Uncle Tom. The blood took forever to come out and I had to kept squeezing a stressball to help the flow.. in which time I had a chat with the nurse, and only then I started to cry telling her that Uncle Tom was in stage 4 of his cancer, and that he'd accepted that, but I guess I hadn't :(
The nurse was super nice and gave me a "blood donor" token which entitled me to some bread and a hot milo (like hot chocolate) from the cafeteria. That cheered me up so much.. just like a sticker did after the dentist's! haha
Today I came home a pint of blood lighter and went to Uncle Tom's room to see how he was doing. He said he'd been bored cos he'd been alone in the house all day. I chatted to him before and just now after dinner, pestering him to tell me about how he met Auntie Maggie :p
Then my Auntie Maggie came in and told me to scram cos she was going to give him his bed bath/wipe down.
Goodnight Uncle Tom. I'll see you tomorrow. x

I love to make him laugh (Malaysia blog)
So I've been back in Malaysia for about a week now, after saying "Goodbye for now" to Chiang Mai, my home for the past 13 months.
In KL, I played a few gigs around town and coincidentally, my youtube brother AJ was having a concert in KL whilst I was there so I sung a few songs at a guest at his Red Roses concert too! It was an awesome night and AJ's fans were amazing as always!
Another gig I did was with Reza Salleh, a good friend of mine and awesome musician.. should check out his facebook page for tunes! We had a songwriters' round at Publika @ The Bee alongside songwriter Rendra Zawiwi! Had a lot of fun up on stage and was a chilled out night sharing original music
Being back feels really good. I'm not much of a city girl but learning to appreciate the wonders of Kuala Lumpur - especially the food potential when you have the right guide :p
My parents arrived from London late on tuesday evening, and my father immediately started the mahjong, and my mother went out and came back with 7 durians!
Yesterday we came by train to Ipoh, my Dad's hometown and where my Uncle Tom is resting. He has cancer. Uncle Tom is my favourite Uncle and as he doesn't have any kids, I'd say he feels pretty close to me too. Well.. I didn't recognise him at first when I walked in the room, afterall, it had only been 6 months since I'd seen him and yet he'd changed so drastically.
He was like a skeleton in bed with no hair, and his voice had changed massively too.. it was hard at first to make out what he was saying but I'm getting used to it now. He looked so weak and frail.. only one year ago he was visiting me in Chiang Mai for christmas. Wow... now I see with my own eyes how fast cancer can deteriorate a body. I had to leave the room to avoid crying in front of him. I was a bit scared of this unfamiliar image as well.
He's known about the cancer for 10 months and they've been using the famous Sabah Snake Grass very strictly according to the rules. It seems that it hasn't helped though :( Certainly hasn't cured him. Recently, he went for some radiotherapy and that seemed to have helped the pain at least. He's now bedridden with my Auntie being his full time carer at home. My Auntie Maggie is a wonderful, tireless carer and nurse.
After spending more time with him when he's awake, I see he's still my Uncle Tom and there's nothing to be afraid of. He still has the same humour, the same stern mind but he gets tired easily and can't even read the paper for long. He says he has hope, but my family has been telling me that he's prepared to go now and has accepted it as a fact.. can one have both? Is he trying to put on a brave face for me?
Sigh.. I don't have too much time left in Ipoh.. maybe about a week. I'm heading to Malacca and SIngapore to see family, and from Singapore I've planned to fly to Taiwan to start the next chapter of my life. All this is planned and everything booked.. and now of course, it's difficult to think about leaving him.
One thing's for sure, I wanna spend as much time with him as possible; want to ask those questions I was a bit scared to ask when I was a kid. Uncle Tom always seemed so serious and stern, but that's why his laughter was even more worth the earning! We're both adults and the playing field is more level now.. I want to explore the wonderful mind that I respect so much.
I Love to make him laugh.
I only have a day or two to spare! Can I still help??
Well.. that significantly reduces your options but still, not all is lost. One can call up or visit TIC Travel in Chiang Mai and ask for Coco or Tina. They speak great English and can easily arrange wonderful tours, trips and book bus journeys for you. You can do one day packages helping out an Elephant Camp for example! Reasonable prices but you may still be able to bargain for tiny discounts. If they don’t have exactly what you’re looking for they’ll do their best to point you in the right direction! Well worth visiting them J

PS: If you’re going through Mae Sot for a few days, still join the “What’s Happening in Mae Sot” group and especially if you have a special skill or experience, you might be able to run a workshop or give a talk at a school.. you never know unless you try !
