To begin with... Lets throw some specs about me and my car...

So, it began as a club thing with some friends in the DFW area, as a way to play with our cars. Being a “car guy” you always want to find a way to take your vehicle to their limit, a lot of people decide to go for Drag racing. I believe that drag racing require some skills but at the same time you only learn how to drive your car on a straight line under a heavy acceleration, its good if you really like to go in a straight line... but for me it wasn’t enough I wanted to be able to handle my car on a more track based set up... (being track days are normally off the record expensive + and that’s not even trying to be a member of a race track or stuff like that...) for a beginner doing something like this is really out of reach... (unless you have a gold pot sitting in your garage) so I decided to go for the cheap affordable starting point, Solo racing/AutoX because smaller groups tend to run this (In my case BMW CCA Lone Star Chapter) turning out to be a great fun learning experience of what to expect and so...
I took the challenge of going for it, whats the worse thing it could happen right? I blow up my engine and have to total the car or rebuild and engine... that’s not really a problem, the fun to danger ratio for this was not a big deal.
Now the fun parts... Taking your car finding it’s limits and just pushing yourself to the limit is the most amazing feeling ever. It makes all the time waiting for the events to come up worth it. The hardest part is keeping your car at peak condition because during the events you push your car to its limits, and because Murphy’s law everything will go wrong... and when it doesn’t something still does... the wear and damage done to the car is way stronger than the daily driver wear and tear, but fun. I’ve gone from easy things like some rubber bushings to having a coolant hose come undone while doing a lap. Everything could happen. you just have to be ready for it and be willing to take care of it so you don’t waste a day.
I’ll wrap this up because I’ve been a little bit all over the place.
Next AutoX event for me is gonna be this Sat July 18 and should be fun, Got some work that needs to get done on my car before it’s track ready again. TheBSChronicles

The Decision
It all goes back to the love of cars... the love for speed and the love for doing stuff.
Now back to the main decision... I own a BMW e46 330i sedan (that i love to death..) but its been abused and driven so much that 210k miles is kinda pushing it really far from the normal limits of these cars... (don't get me wrong though the things feels as fierce and powerful as it was meant to be 10 years ago...) but the waiting for it to fully die gives me so many ideas..
The fact that an S54 engine bolts in relatively easy makes me wanna do that swap... (for those who are not into bmw's this engine came with the bmw e46 M3... and its really good) the problem with that is that is not an M3... and for those bmw lovers there is nothing better than owning a M car... its just the pleasure and joy of having them.
But at the same time... everything is more expensive when you go and buy something for your M car...
In other point of view they only come with 2 doors... and everybody knows that sometimes those 4 doors come in handy... (so sad that they didn't made an e46 m3 4d...) I mean... that option of having them is always good... (coming from a sedan) and I guess i could go to an older M3... (e36 240bhp) that is not bad... but is almost the same I'm playing with right now...
And then it comes to the hard endless labor of finding a car with a manual transmission in the USA, I'm still trying to understand why it is so hard to find MT cars here, people cant be that lazy,,, its more fun to drive MT cars... you have so much control of what you are doing, the brakes are used less cause you tend to use the engine to reduce speeds... (and yes M3's come with MT) but still the finding them is hard... cause EVERYONE LIKES THE STUPID SMG!!! for those who dont know what an SMG transmission is Google... or just stop reading...
Now we go to suspension M3's have an amazing suspension... but still there is always more ways to make it better... (same with my normal e46), cost wise... its not much of a difference once you go for that kind of upgrade, they are good and they ride awesome no matter what... but my stock suspension is about to get some upgrade (M3 springs) in tjhat case I dont really have a preference...
Engine... Holly shit here is where i talk non stop of all the possibilities with an S54 and the lack of stuff for an M54B30, and yes there are mods for this kind of engine out there... but it turns into a huge money pit... and the possibilities of making more power than an S54 are about 6k US$ just to get to M3 numbers... and still possible but expensive.. in the other side... M3... it has a great power number and its factory and at some point yes you can make crazy powers...
Now... daily an M3... it's just one of those things that say... hmm i love my car... but this is like costing me an eyeball to do, fun but expensive... and hell yeah I'm not gonna be those guys who own and M3 to be kept in a garage.. there is no point on that... but daily a normal e46 there is no hard feeling on that.. its an e46... you can find an engine... or a new door or hood or what ever that someone hits... but with an M3... someone dares to scratch my car i will be flipping balls still nothing insurance and a few hammers and etc cant fix... but still DAMN i would be so pissed...
And now the finishing touch to this... ME... I love my car.. but i also love BMWs... and its that love passion and joy of owning one that makes me wanna have a better and bigger more powerful and at the same time its a powerful beast and i would end being in love with my car as much as I am now... but i would want more and more... But there is something about owning your dream car (even when its a 10 yold car) its just that satisfaction i guess... and hopefully i will be able to do this soon...

I kinda wanna go and start upgrading my car... but I need to start with suspension and then all the following things... the problem is that suspension upgrade its gonna turn out to be a tricky thing... and I might need another car so i can do stuff, or get a 2 door for a toy car...
