Kinda quick comic to let you know that this still a thing.
Sarasate did made fantasies based on operas, like the ones by Mozart, Weber and Verdi. Sarasate’s last opus is Fantasy of Die Zauberflöte, but the most famous fantasy is obviously, Fantasy on Carmen.
Vivaldi’s opera is rarely even performed and known nowadays, even in Sarasate’s era (late romantic). Meanwhile Vivaldi himself is considered as an opera kind of man, so it’s kinda… Disappointing.
Erhm. Antonio Vivaldi. Red hair. Roman Catholic Priest. Worked in an orphanage/ charity hospital. Performed and wrote music to support that institution. Wrote over 500 concerti, almost half of them for the violin which was his instrument. Played from behind a screen so the audience couldn’t see him, because paid public performance was deemed incompatible with his vocation by the church. NEVER WROTE AN OPERA. NEVER ATTENDED THE OPERA. vivaldi was a violin concerto person, not an opera person. #correction
Oh wow, well hello there, smart person!
If you think Vivaldi never wrote an opera, please have a good look, because, actually, he did! Wow, amazing right. Giustino, Farnace, Dorilla in Tempe, Tito Manilo, L'Olympiad, all of them written by Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, just to name a few. Still not convinced yet? Here's a big list of all of Vivaldi's opera, please read it carefully and have a nice day.
