Valley of the Dolls || DPaladinD
The witch Digimon was clearly amused at her new captive’s attempt at standing up to her. She noticed that the new girl didn’t seem afraid of her, but assumed that was down to her stopping the ginger haired doll from spilling any details. She would have time to change that.
Sayo kept quiet in Spellmon’s presence, being careful to not get on her bad side. All she could do was watch her companion’s actions, and had she been human, she would have paled at the thought of what Spellmon’s reply would be.
The defiant look in the brunette’s eyes quickly irritated the witch. It told her that this girl firmly believed she could get away, somehow. She hadn’t seen anything like this with any of the other captives. Spellmon reached into the toybox and picked up the other doll, knowing she wouldn’t offer any resistance, and began to lift her out. “That is something you don’t need to worry yourself with.” The witch answered.
Hikari’s gaze went back and forth between Spellmon and Sayo. Her ginger friend seemed intimidated by Spellmon, and although the digimon seemed quite threatening, she could only wonder why Sayo wouldn’t stand up against Spellmon with her.
Her breath faltered slightly as she figured that she would not have the support from Sayo she wished for. She sighed, her fists balled up to her sides and the same resting, defiant frown on her face. Her lips were pursed, “Well?” She blurted out, “Won’t you tell me?”
Just then, she saw Spellmon’s enormous hand reach into the toybox. Hikari breathed deeply, of course, if anyone hadn’t ever defied her, she suspected that she would probably get ‘punished’. To her surprise, it was Sayo whom she had taken. Her breath got caught in her throat as the witch replied to her.
“H-Hey! Where are you taking her? C-Come back!”
Valley of the Dolls || DPaladinD
Sayo thought for a few moments about how to answer the older girl’s question. She thought of the others that she’d met while trapped here, looking around into the darkness of the toybox.
"There have been others… some just keep to themselves, trying to come to terms with what Spellmon’s done to them. But a number have… been taken out of the toybox and they haven’t returned." Sayo explained. Her expression did not reveal how hard this was for her to explain, but her tone of voice made it all too clear.
When the toybox opened, a large shadow loomed over the pair. The figure was female in appearance, with grey skin, wearing a long blue robe. A gold bracelet could be seen at each of her wrists, with Digicode carved into it. A large witch’s hat sat on her head as she looked in, admiring her captives. She takes particular interest in Hikari. “Welcome to your new home, little one.” Her voice boomed over them.
Hikari’s eyes shook with worry as Sayo mentioned the kids who had completely disappeared. Her heart thumped loudly against her chest, trying not to imagine whatever Spellmon had done with them. As far as she knew, she hadn’t freed them and let them go back to the Real World, or wonder around the Digital World (if that was the case, they would’ve at least found one of them). Nonetheless, it was clear to hear that there were not other children in the toy box… or near them, in any case.
She flinched at the tone of her voice, unable to imagine how hard those times must’ve been for Sayo. However, all of her thoughts were interrupted as blinding light illuminated the toy box. Hikari instinctively looked up, although the light that comfortable fell against her skin was quickly covered again, and a large shadow loomed over the girls. If her heart’s pace was quick before, now it was thumping so fast it almost made her anxious. The shadow belonged to no other that Spellmon, or so she assumed.
A deep frown adorned Hikari’s usually serene face as the witch spoke to her. She stared at the digimon in spite, her lips pouting and her eyes filled with hate. “This is not my home, nor it is hers.”
Then, the brunette puffed her chest slightly, mustering all of the courage that seemed to run in her family, “Spellmon, tell us, where is Tailmon? Where are the others?”
i-it’s not like i want to be her partner or anything i happen to be the bad guy here if you forgot.

When the older girl placed her hands on Sayo’s shoulders, she wasn’t sure where her confidence was coming from when she spoke. It was clear Sayo had been stuck there for some time, so she was skeptical of what she was hearing.
However, as soon as the brunette tried and failed to say her name, Sayo sighed a little. “This is why I couldn’t tell you my name before, the same thing happens to me.” Sayo explained.”It gets easier to handle when you’re a doll.” She added.
Hikari found herself biting her lip as Sayo explained the inevitable truth to her. She shuddered at the girl's words, which had disturbed her much more than it should have. She was confident that she was going to get the both of them out of there, but... at what cost?
It gets easier to handle when you're a doll.
Sayo's fate had obviously been twisted several times for her to become a doll and be trapped in this toybox. It had also been twisted yet again to let the two of them meet. As far as she was concerned, she was her last hope. Nonetheless, Hikari wondered, brushing a hand through her short hair, was she going down the same path?
"Oh..." Her words came out meek and shy, her face ashen with a realization that perhaps that would be her if she didn't get the two of them out of there. "But... do you know why they do this? Why Spellmon plays with us? Doesn't allow us to say our names...?"

If there was something Hikari had learned as a Chosen Children it was to never lose sight of hope, no matter how... well, hopeless the situation seemed. Once you lost sight of hope, you lost sight of light and if she did that she would just be giving up on herself, wouldn't she? She wanted to let Sayo know that she wouldn't give up on her for her life.
Hikari nodded slowly, slightly gaping. If Sayo wasn't her real name... "You are one of the children that disappeared, aren't you? You've been... all turned into a doll. Don't you know if there aren't any more children here?"
The brunette shuddered at the thought of becoming a doll. It was something that she had been avoiding thinking for the longest time she had been there, but when Sayo mentioned it, she couldn't run from it anymore. Just then, as if to make things worse, the toybox was suddenly illuminated, as if the lid had been taken off. Hikari squinted her eyes, noticing the sudden shadow of a digimon that she was certainly unfamiliar with.
Valley of the Dolls || DPaladinD
Sayo watched as Hikari took in what she was telling her. She wasn’t sure if it had sunk in that they were trapped here, and shuddered a bit at the thought of what Spellmon was going to put her through.
With the other girl’s change in tone, Sayo backed up a little. Her first impression of Hikari was that she was friendly and couldn’t see her getting angry much.
Regaining her composure, Sayo took to answer Hikari’s latest questions. She opened her mouth to speak, but began to feel warmth in her right leg. She touched it gently through her dress absentmindedly, before wincing a little. Knowing what the warmth meant, she corrected herself quickly. “You’ll have to wait. I… can’t say anything.”
Hikari immediately retreated and backed away a little in order to give the girl some space. Her tone of voice had most likely alarmed the ginger or maybe even scared her. She breathed shakily, the last thing she wanted to do was to lose the trust Sayo was beginning to have on her. Unconsciously, she sighed in relief when she noticed the girl regain her composure.
The brunette burrowed her eyebrows in worry as she noticed the girl suddenly wincing. She bit the inside of her lip instinctively looking at her up and down and noticing her hand slightly gracing her leg. Hikari took a step forward, trying to get a better look at it, but the darkness wasn't helping much. She sighed. She hated this so much.
"Why... why can't you?" The words left her mouth before she could realize it and immediately regretted it. She shook her head, "No, it's fine... You don't have to explain or anything." Hikari breathed deeply. If her guesses were right and it was Spellmon doing all this, then she wouldn't want to risk her new friend's welfare or putting her in any risk of getting hurt.
Hikari looked around worried and placed her hands on both of Sayo's porcelain shoulders, "I'm gonna get us out of here, Sayo. I promise." She reassured the girl, staring straight into her eyes, "I'm gonna get us out of here or my name isn't -" She suddenly felt as if something had punched all the air out of her stomach. Confusion was drawn all over her face as she tried again. "Why... Why can't I say my name?"
Kouichi smiled at the girl, albeit somewhat awkwardly. He didn’t mean to bring any tension between them, but he was sure - he knew he could feel - that Tailmon watching him. It made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on-end, but he tried to play it off cool, except that, he really was just a bundle of nerves right now. Especially after spilling eggs and with Hikari not feeling well and…
"T-Tailmon helped clean up, don’t worry," Kouichi shook his head. "I made everything myself before she came in. She… kinda startled me and I spilled some eggs of hers. But the tea and stuff is healthy, I promise."
He scooched his chair up as close to the other’s bed as he could, moving the spoon around in the soup to make sure it wasn’t too hot for her. “Are you okay to eat? I mean, how do you feel? After resting.”
He’d take care of his mom like this a lot, the atmosphere of sitting here seeming so familiar. He just really hoped this wouldn’t turn out like his grandmother, at which thought he shuddered. Hikari wasn’t that sick or that old. He was sure he could look after her for the time being - he wanted to.
"I’m sure this will make you feel better, okay?"
Hikari eyed him curiously. She sighed, almost wheezed, Tailmon tended to make people nervous because of her overprotective nature. She was instantly relieved, though, when he cleared up that Tailmon had only helped him clean. Honestly, she had no idea how the cat did it, but her partner tended to add some of her mother's "secret ingredients" whenever Hikari cooked anything that she was going to eat.
The brunette nodded with a light smile on her face, as it was all she could muster energy for at the moment. "Arigatou, Kouichi-kun," she whispered gently. Hikari pushed herself up so that she would be leaning on the headboard and froze for a second to relax her back.
"It's not like I'm dying, Kouichi." She laughed dryly. "And I feel slightly better. Except that this is my brother's bed, and I'm not really accustomed to it." The girl explained. Grabbing the spoon gingerly from the bowl, Hikari tried the soup. As she drank it, she felt her shoulders relax and her inside become warmer.
Hikari closed her eyes with ease. Chicken soup and medicine was all she seemed to need to get better, and probably a few days of staying in bed and sleeping till noon. The brunette glance up, staring at Kouichi's worried expression. "What's on your mind, Kouichi-kun?" She asked absentmindedly.
The brunette smiled, "I'm sure it will, Kouichi-kun, but do you think you could make some more before you leave, if it's not a problem?" Honestly, if he didn't, Hikari would fall victim of her mother's terrible cooking and she would probably end up being sick for a few days more.

Sayo shook her head in reply, moving somewhat stiffer than one normally would. “I don’t know… you can’t tell with this light. Sometimes its there, sometimes Spellmon turns it off to listen to us stumble around in the dark….”.
Little could be read from the dolled girl’s face as she said this, it seemed as though while she was able to speak, she couldn’t express herself much with her glass eyes, which appeared to be blue.
When Hikari held her shoulder, looking directly at her, Sayo nodded slowly.
Hikari nodded understandingly as she noticed the girl turn stiffer. She figured she would get uncomfortable at all the questions she'd been asking all at once. The brunette sighed, tucking her hair in her left ear. She also guessed that if she had been trapped in the toy box for as long as Sayo had, and in those conditions too, she would also have lost track of time. The girl could only wonder how Sayo and her had winded up there.
She bit her lips slightly as her eyebrows furrowed together, "Spellmon really sounds awful, Sayo-san..." But she couldn't think of something else to say. If she was right about her... suspicions and inquiries then she couldn't ask the ginger if she was sure she couldn't get away.
The brunette stared at her new friend, looking directly at her shiny blue eyes that seemed almost like glass. Hikari had always had a good intuition about things so she tended to follow it, but this time it was different. She was just so sure about this. Hikari didn't know if she should be scared or intrigued by the answer she was almost sure she would receive.
Needless to say, she wasn't as surprised when the girl nodded. However, her heart stopped for a second when Sayo confirmed her suspicions. Although she already knew that she was mostly right about this, it scared her. How powerful could this Spellmon be to have done this atrocities? The girl shuddered.
Instinctively, Hikari cocked her head and blinked repeatedly. She gaped a little, her eyebrows furrowed back together again before she could say any words. "Sayo, how does she.. play with you? How did she this to you?" Her voice turned angrier as she spoke. It was needless to say that she was beginning to fully despise Spellmon.

The Coming of Darkness
-
The girl stood before him, his eyes scrutinizing her the whole time. Swaying on her feet, apprehension in her gaze and in her every movement - Duskmon was not unfamiliar with such behavior towards him. But he couldn’t understand why they seemed to say he was sad. There was just nothing in him anymore except for the Dark Ocean.
Duskmon didn’t understand other’s motivations to question him. He was usually instead given his reasons, by Cherubimon, or the darkness. A monster intended only to destroy - no one need question that. And yet in his experience, those associated with the Light were always curious to inspect his darkness and mysteries.
"Who are you? Why do you look like me?"
The demon’s hands grew tight under their gauntlets. He could hear a voice echoing beneath the girl’s before him as if from another world. Even though he couldn’t see the other’s motivation to question her enemy, Duskmon felt compelled to reply. As if it would burn if he didn’t.
Some of the eyes on his armor slid away to take in the sight of the place around him. It was strange and confusing and instilled in him human feeling, gave him strength and took it away. Yet he continued to come back as if searching for comfort for his damnable soul. The real question was why someone such as this girl be brought here? She hardly had the right negative qualities to be corrupted so easily.
"Destiny …" was the only answer he had.
"I was created because of this world." After Cherubimon’s castle in the Dark Continent hanging under the Rose Morning Star, this place was a close second home. Though he didn’t ‘live’ anywhere, his spirit found this place calling to him. There wasn’t much to see other than darkness, but maybe he liked it that way.
"Why have you come here?" Red eyes glared back to her, questioning, deadly. "You asked for help. I came to your call - I could kill you, if you want." Maybe that was what he considered escape from this place.
Hikari's breaths were short and paused while her whole body shivered uncontrollably. The Dark Ocean was cold, as always. This time, however, it felt completely different, and she didn't know if it was for good or bad. She sighed, her shoulders slumping a little. Even if it was minimum, she could feel the Ocean slowly sucking the life out of her. Every bit of energy she had was leaving her body and she could feel a new feeling of exhaustion on top of her.
Her eyes were suddenly fixed in his hands as they grew tighter by the second. Her heart suddenly started to pound in nervousness. Had she angered him? Provoked him, one way or another? She had been hesitant when asking, so perhaps she shouldn't have said anything at all...
She shrugged almost unconsciously, shrinking away from the digimon in front of her, and shifting her glance from him. She refused to stare at him, for fear he might hurt her, one way or another.
The brunette sighed, deciding to look back at him as he answered her question. Her breath got caught in her throat, was that all he was going to say? He couldn't help but remind her of BlackWarGreymon, and because of that, he made her sad. She could see him going on and on about destiny and wondering who he was, but she couldn't help but believe that there was so much more to him than just a simple answer to that question. Something in her told her that he had story, with a beginning and an end, that he wanted to pretend never existed.
Hikari shook her head and held his arm, looking at him softly. "That's not true, Duskmon," She tried to smile gently, "Even if the darkness is a part of you... It does not mean that its the reason why you exist." She breathed slowly and deeply, unsure of what to say next. "Just... who are you, Duskmon? Where do you come from?"
Once more, the brunette shivered uncomfortably under the gaze of the digimon. She shook her head reluctantly, "I didn't come here... I don't want to be here," she paused for a moment, "I was brought here. It was like the Ocean was calling me and I was forced to come. This place... this place scares me, that's why I asked for help." Hikari breathed heavily, "I just want to leave and never come back."
The Coming of Darkness
-
The human child, as small and fragile and weak as she looked, was so out of place within the vast expanse of debilitating darkness that was the Ocean. Her pale visage might not have even be seen by any other except for a monster like him with such excellent vision. His eyes glowed an eerie crimson in the dim fog surrounding the water. Even her slight shivering disguised her as a simple glitch in the scenery, another lost soul soon to vanish into mist.
Duskmon could see different. He could see the light and life hiding within her chest, a small heartbeat waiting to be rescued. So tiny that he could crush it within his hands to never see the light of the moon again. And yet she had the simple audacity to address him, with an innocence as pure as moonlight. He was, in that moment, taken aback, his hand still outstretched, but now hesitating.
"Why do you say that?" he asked back in a gravelly voice, wondering as to what they were thinking. Any negative emotions for him were both heightened and nullified, in which Duskmon mostly felt numb and rather disinterested. But he still asked because he was compelled to do so.
Such a frightened little chick lost in this world, her eyes dim behind a multitude of thoughts. If Duskmon reached out for them, maybe he could read her mind, push some of his power into her. But he had no want or need or any reason except that he was compelled by her command.
An empty shell filled by the Dark Ocean.
After a moment, he let down his hand, realizing they did not trust her. Good. He did not care, nor did he need to be doing so. Whatever his thoughts or opinion on the matter was washed away into the monotone grey sand.
"Why?"
There were probably many ways Duskmon could answer that, but nothing pertinent came forth. It was like she was asking why he existed, which was only to serve. He did, however, have one answer that finally rolled off his tongue when the demon straightened and looked away.
"Destiny."
She felt the monster scrutinize her with his many eyes, but as uncomfortable as she was, she refused to shiver under his gaze once more. Hikari refused to show any sign of weakness, because she didn’t know what could happen if she did. At first glance, Hikari wasn’t one to hold grudges, but through the years, she had learned to be careful and doubtful when it came to the Dark Ocean. She stood up straight, eyeing him carefully.
Then, as if it were the final straw, her breath caught and her shoulders tensed when he questioned her back. Almost immediately, though, her shoulders relaxed and her eyes softened. She had been so afraid of him, of what he’d say if he had heard her. But she didn’t have to be so apprehensive. Hikari blinked a few times, breathing slowly. She bit her lip softly, glancing up at him. “There is so much… Pain in your eyes. As if you had suffered for a long time… And you still are.” Her voice trailed off.
Still, she had a reason to be intimidated by him. Hikari was still in the Dark Ocean, and therefore, at the mercy of Duskmon. She started to sway slightly, unsure if it was out of uncomfortableness or intimidation. She continued to stare at him, not that she was actually expecting him to reply to what she had just said, but she’d rather stare at a scary face than to stare at the hell hole she was currently in. The brunette breathed slowly, trying to relax herself a little, but she couldn’t.
Her lips became chewed as she saw him draw back his hand. A short breath escaped her lips. She didn’t trust him, but she didn’t exactly… Distrust him. There was more to him than meets the eye, and even if she knew that she shouldn’t tread so carelessly around him, she would give him the benefit of doubt.
Hikari nodded slowly, a knowing look in her eyes as Duskmon repeated her question. She narrowed her eyes a little, lips still sewn together. She wouldn’t dare say another word for fear it might put her in danger.
But then, as she heard him reply, the brunette couldn’t help but smile as he finally replied. She wasn’t expecting something like that, but it filled her with intrigue and craving to know. “Then… Why are you here? In the Dark Ocean?”
Kouichi carried a tray of soup, tea and water back to where Hikari was resting. On the one hand, he was happy to be able to help, but on the other he was starting to get more and more worried about his friend. The overly protective way Tailmon had reacted was probably because they were partners, but mentioning that this had happened before made him think Hikari might be sickly. And that made him almost too afraid to cross the threshold from which he couldn’t come back.
But it was probably already too late. Kouichi worried about Hikari to the same degree he worried about his family. He wanted to be able to take care of them - all of them - so he was actually very contented in the task Tailmon had given him. Healing he knew he could do; he could only hope it would be enough for his friend to start feeling well again.
Kouichi willed away his worry in order to focus on the task at hand: opening Hikari’s bedroom door without spilling the tray’s content. Luckily he’d left the door cracked open for better air flow, just enough for him to slip inside with barely a misstep. He announced his arrival with a careful rap of his knuckles on the frame, before coming in all the way. Finding Hikari awake on the bed, Kouichi smiled a bit. She must have felt exhausted from the initial onslaught of sickness, and yet she was still willing to greet him.
"Hey," he dragged an office chair from the corner of the room in order to sit down next to the bed. "Here."
She sat up and thanked him, to which all Kouichi could do was shrug. “It’s nothing, Hikari— Yagami-chan. Hikari-san.” He bit his lip to keep from blurting out an embarrassment. “Um. Tailmon came in and helped me. I hope you like it.” And he showed off his food proudly.
As Tailmon sent Kouichi to Hikari's room to deliver her food, she couldn't stop thinking of how grateful she was that her partner had befriended the boy. With Taichi going away to college, and Yuuko and Susumo usually being at work or simply out of the house, she was more than often left alone to take care of Hikari whenever she got sick. Having the boy here gave her a sense of safety and relief she hadn't felt in a while.
Climbing down from the counter to clean the mess the boy had made, she felt her shoulders slump. Sure, he wasn't perfect, messing with her food and all (she knew Takeru wouldn't even think of touching it, and that was one of the reasons why she liked the blonde), but he was better than nothing. Once she was done cleaning up after Kimura, she made her way towards the bedroom, silently spying on the two teenagers.
She saw Hikari accept the food gracefully, giggling softly at the boy. The digimon rolled her eyes at this, as she saw her partner nod at him. "Yagami-chan or Hikari-chan is fine," she saw her smile. Quickly, however, she noticed how that smile turned into a disgusted mix between a pout and a frown. Tailmon, in turn, frowned too. "T-tailmon helped you with this?"
Okay, what was that supposed to mean. She continued to frown, deciding to stay quiet in the background. She was dying to see how this turned out.
-
Casper smiles, remembering something that he could say that was the truth about what his tamer often does. “Yes, we often travel all over the place actually. So we never stay in the same place for long.” He ponders for a moment, trying to recall where Amir said Samantha used to live. “My tamer is originally from America- but like I said, she likes traveling.” He felt better now that he wasn’t exactly lying to them.
"Thank you, Tailmon. I certainly will." So far, everything has going nicely and these two were making him feel at ease in this new world. He also seems to be opening up to them, as he chuckles at the response about the gifts. "Then I believe I will, after all it’s the least I can do for the your kindness." It would be perfect to practice his magic too, when he did ‘create’ their gifts at the end of all this.
He patiently waited for Hikari and Tailmon to decide where to go, briefly glancing at other people and their digital partners with a small smile on his face. This truly was a nice world to be in… Casper quickly turns his attention back to them, as Hikari suggests they go to a café. “That sounds great!” He says with a little more enthusiasm than he meant to. Blushing and adverting his eyes, the Sorcerymon nods. “Er-” He fixes his hat and continues, “Please, lead the way.”
Hikari gave a mix between a giggle and a gasp as he spoke about his tamer. The idea of moving around and travelling all over the world fascinated her, in short, it was definitely one of the things she'd most like to do one day. Unconsciously, she leaned forward, a light shining in her eyes, "Really? That's amazing!" she exclaimed, "Ah, surely you've seen lots of places, right? It must be so cool to be able to travel like that,"
Her digimon partner nodded at Sorcerymon, smiling unconsciously. Honestly, she didn't really think he had to, but it was an act of gratitude she would definitely appreciate. She continued to look up at him, "Thank you, Sorcerymon." The digimon quickly turned to her partner, nodding slightly at what she had said.
Still, they were both distracted by Sorcerymon's sudden outburst. The brunette quickly giggled, happy that their new friend was as excited to go as them. She thought of all the many places they could take him, agreeing to herself that it would definitely be fun day. Hikari bit back a smile as she and Tailmon started to take the lead on their way to the café, "Come along, then!"
