Trust wasn’t the issue, it hadn’t been for Rosalie, not from that first moment when Esme had brought Gabriella home. She had been in love from the very first second and, despite what Edward may say, Rosalie’s love once given was infinite, enough that she could win the battle against her hunger for blood. She was hungry now though, and it was evident to them all, but she didn’t want to leave Gabriella behind. She was worried.
“You’ll always be my little sister.” Rosalie summarised, reaching out a hand to brush against Gabriella’s shoulder, the motion stiff with the tension she felt. “Even when you are old and grey, I will always be looking out for you.” She finished with a smile that was both soft and sad. She could see it in her mind as though it were a memory, her Gabriella sitting in a rocking chair on a porch, wrinkled and grey surrounded by her grandchildren, holding her partner’s hand, living everything Rose had ever dreamed for herself. Would she be in that picture? No, not visibly, but she would always be there to see her, in one way or another.
“If I’m going to eat then you better eat too. If I come back to clean dishes, your in for it.” She told Gabriella with a light touch of severity that was softened by a pseudo joke.
It was clear to Gabriella just how hungry her sister was. Eyes that were once a brilliant golden colour were now dark and black, the bags under Rosalie’s perfect eyes now deep and purple. Oh, Gabriella knew how painful a vampire’s hunger could be. Her heart simply broke for her sister right now. She wanted to help take the pain away, but she knew simply being around Rosalie - or any of their family while they hungered - wasn’t helping her at all.
“It might be hard for you to still call me your little sister when I’m old and grey, Rose.” She teased softly with a laugh, lips forcing up into a kind smile as she attempted to help lessen the strain from the situation, “You’ll get some funny looks from others if you do.” Still, she was certain she would never complain if that became a reality. No matter how old she got Rosalie would always be her big sister.
Relief washed over Gabriella when Rosalie agreed to go hunting. She breathed out in a more relaxed smile, nodding immediately as not even needing to consider the deal given. “Yes! Of course! Remember, I’ll know if you haven’t eaten too.” She warned Rosalie, hand held up and finger pointing: playful of course, “You can’t hide your eye colour from me. Now go …” She gently pushed Rosalie towards the back door, urging her to go feed before such hunger caused more pain, “And don’t rush. I’ll still be here and young when you get back.”
