I'm extremely intrigued by how you think BtVS tackles an issue like rape properly, and gives it the depth, realisticness and weight it deserves, because genuinely every single instance of rape/attempted rape on this show has either been pushed under the rug or used as a plot device for the rapist. There are many issues BtVS addresses with great effectiveness and respect, but honestly, rape is not and was never one of them.
In general, I actually agree with pretty much everything you said, anon. Many shows after Buffy have undoubtedly handled the subject leagues better. I do believe that the most infamous scene (Spike in Seeing Red) was lazy and insensitive writing and should have never left the writer’s room. But it happened, and so we can’t just erase it from canon. I think, if anything, the writers at least succeeded in starting a conversation between people, and hopefully caused some self reflection with regards to how they saw Spike thereafter and just on a personal level as well. As with how most issues are portrayed on television, this can be looked at subjectively. Maybe the situation and the aftermath resonated with some people, while others hated it and found it horribly distasteful and offensive. Personal experiences are going to come into play a lot especially with this particular issue, so it’s really up to individuals to decide whether rape was handled well or not on BtVS.
What's your opinion on Willow/Faith ship? imo they could fit really well in S7(way better than Kennedy honestly)
Willow had more chemistry with that giant drink Kennedy bought her at the Bronze than she ever did with Kennedy herself…Willow and Faith could definitely work, I’ve seen fan fic writers make art out of that ship tbh. They have an interesting dynamic and more similarities than one would realize upon first thought.
All Buffy. All the time.
so you guys i dropped the ball and let my old domain expire because i’m lazy. but the site is live at the new domain, thecynicalslayer.net!
I just remembered how I dropped from a near 100% to 70-something percent in my college English/lit class a few years ago because the final unit was on symbolism in television - the teacher was showing an episode from season 3 and the series finale of Buffy and i just never showed up to class again because I was only on season 1 of Buffy and didn’t want to spoil it

“Nothing can beat the villainous vampire team, badass Spike and insane Drusilla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Drusilla: Do you love my insides, the parts you can’t see?
Spike: Eyeballs to entrails, my sweet. That’s why I’ve got to study this Slayer. Once I know her, I can kill her. And once I can kill her, you can have your run of Sunnyhell. Get strong again.
Drusilla: Don’t worry. Everything’s switching. Outside to inside. - from BtVS #2.6”
Buffy: I'm Buffy, the Vampire Slayer
Everyone: okay.. that sounds fake but okay
How I would have written Faith’s return in season seven
Buffy: Come train an army of slayers with me
Faith: I can’t I’m in prison
Buffy: Riley and I broke up two years ago

THIS GIFSET GIVES ME LIFE
actualasamisato I feel you but I kind of think that Buffy doesn’t really look like she could kill you! Like she’s small and sweet looking but, as we know, she can actually throw down.
And Angel is this big broody vampire dressed in all black that looks scary but really just wants to help people and save lives! To me Angelus is considered separately.
looks like a cinnamon roll but could actually kill you: Buffy
looks like they could kill you but is actually a cinnamon roll: Angel
looks like a cinnamon roll and is actually a cinnamon roll: Willow
looks like they could kill you and would actually kill you: Faith
the sinnamon roll: Spike
sometimes I forget that I am, before anything else, 100% Buffy trash.
what she says: Yeah i mean buffy is good for like, a 90′s show
what she means: Buffy the Vampire Slayer is an unbelievable piece of art and important part of pop culture that managed to subvert cliches and absolutely destroy stereotypes while presenting audiences with a plethora of strong female characters involved in starkly realistic situations and multi-dimensional romantic and platonic relationships and never shied away to tackle issues including but not limited to fear of isolation, rape, bullying, divorce, religion, sexuality, and depression, and of course the trials and tribulations concerning the transition to young adulthood and I really think you ought to try viewing the show because it will change your life
Willow wearing a rainbow sweater is the best Buffy pic we’ve seen all day.
Look how excited she is. She knew.
