Holy Emy - Agia Emy (2021), dir. Araceli Lemos
The Blue Caftan (2022) dir. Maryam Touzani
Hearbreaking. A movie about passion, love, craft, tradition.
The oddly familiar beauty of the provincial town’s ugliness.
Ballad for a Pierced Heart dir. Yannis Economides
I am currently enjoying what #ertflix , the streaming platform of the Greek national television has to offer. And what it has to offer is Everyone knows (Todos lo saben) dir. Asghar Farhadi (2018).
It is what Farhadi does masterfully and you come back for, even if you know what to expect. A mysterious incident falls upon a family; an extended family most of the times. The family cracks under the pressure of the unknown. The pressure disrupts the trust that they have for each other. They get suspicious and they stir drama to justify their suspicions. In the end Farhadi gives you the truth, he solves the mystery. It can be a happy end or not. But somehow it is not settling. You still feel uneasy, it doesn’t make all suspicion go away. This one version of the truth cannot make up for the entire universe of senarios built during the movie. It is truly unique!
It is not common to watch a film and wish that it would last longer. And this one, Magnetic Fields dir. Yorgos Gousis (2021) made it. The naive, dead-pun but intentionally funny dialogues the infinite tenderness, the built-up tension... it makes me wanna go every night at 23.00 to the openair cinema of my neighborhood to watch it again and again.

Lola (1981) - Rainer Werner Fassbinder
Absolute favourite baby blue/ baby pink scene from Lola (1981). The attention to lighting in this film elevates it to a masterpiece.
Lola (1981)
This movie, oh this movie. The saturated colours, the tender, corrupt characters that are all tender and loving in their own right trying to survive in a cruel world. The freedom that this movie exudes is something else.
So, Lola today (1981), dir. Rainer Werner Fassbinder
There is nothing I enjoy more than one room/set movies like the Breakfast club/Man on Earth/ Dinner with Andrè and of course The Party. Throw people in a room, have them there for hours and let them unveil their true colours and burst from all the penned up feelings.
This particular one, The Party (2017) dir. Sally Porter is all all that sprinkled with some british contemporary concerns and AMAZING actors as the late Bruno Ganz, the love of my life.
