‘This Extraordinary Being’ explored the origin of the ‘Hooded Justice’, the first masked vigilante and a notable member of the Minutemen, an organisation of superheroes within the Watchmen universe.

Eight out of 26 of the Emmy 2020 nominations received by Watchmen were for this episode: outstanding cinematography, directing, single-camera picture editing, music and lyrics, music supervision, sound editing, sound mixing, and writing. Jovan Adepo and Louis Gossett Jr, who played a young and old Will Reeves respectively and were the main focus of the episode, also both received nominations for outstanding supporting actor.
