Inspired by media and books such as Beetlejuice, Coraline, Paranorman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Casper, The Haunted Mansion, and Corpse Bride.
In this au takes place in the 1960's and the characters have died but it was with unfinished business so they now reside somewhere between earth and limbo and they can't move on until their business is solved. However there's just one problem, no one can remember what happened before they died. They can't remember who they are, how they died, or what their unfinished business was.
Juvia - A recently deceased ghoul who's very confused about what's happened to her. She tries to see the bright side of the situation and actually tries to use her ghostly powers to help the living if she can. She's very naive but compassionate and sweet with a passionate love of romance and an adoration for children. Her abilities are flight and telekinesis.
Gray - A cunning, sly, somewhat short tempered ghoul who finds great pleasure in frightening and/or teasing both the living and deceased. He is either known or feared by everyone in the in-between due to his occasionally sadistic nature and his dangerous powers. However despite his scary demeanor he does have good heart he just keeps it hidden. His abilities are spatial warping, shadow manipulation, and dark magic.
Lucy - A sensible and prudent ghoul who becomes the first friend Juvia makes after she dies. She serves as Juvia's guide to the in-between and tries to warn her of certain ghouls. Though fairly sane she will resort to violence, she distrusts men, and she doesn't believe in love however she is a loyal friend and like Lucy she adores children. Her abilities are hand-to-hand combat and weapon proficiency.
Natsu - A lazy, crude, and crass ghoul who like Gray delights in haunting the living and tormenting the dead. He tends to be a loose cannon, an alcoholic, and he often butts heads with Lucy and Gray but he does have a caring side for the people he cares about. He also has a soft spot for animals preferably cats. His abilities are flexibility, athleticism, possession, and pyrokinesis.
Wendy - A curious and precocious but lonely young girl who's recently moved with her family into the house where the four ghouls are haunting. She is gifted with the ability to see, hear, and communicate with the dead. She doesn't have any friends from school or the neighborhood because all the kids think she's weird but she ends up befriending Juvia, Gray, Lucy, and Natsu. They're all very fond of Wendy and she tries to help them move on.
Erza - Wendy's mother who's always busy with work but is very loving and caring. She tries to make time for her daughter and she only wants what's best for her family. She can't see or hear the ghouls and she doesn't believe that Wendy can see the dead, dismissing the ghouls as imaginary friends she made up.
Jellal - Wendy's father and Erza's husband, like his wife he is very busy with his work but loves his daughter just as deeply as Erza does. He tends to embarrass Wendy sometimes but he tries to be a devoted father. Also like his wife Jellal can't see or hear the ghouls and doesn't believe that they actually exist.
