All of my inspiration comes from my community, both my Dakota & Ghanaian relatives. When I create, I look for ways to pull from those that I came from-often using designs that have been used by my Grandmas with a mix of new ideas today. The 2023 Met Gala is Karl Lagerfeld themed and I just want to remind everyone of some of the horrible and awful things he’s said about fat women:

“No one wants to see curvy women.”

“The hole in social security, it’s also [due to] all the diseases caught by people who are too fat”

He described Adele as “a little too fat.”

Not to mention the horrific things he has said about refugees and Jewish people, such as:

“I know someone in Germany who took a young Syrian and after four days said: ‘The greatest thing Germany invented was the Holocaust’”

So go ahead, post pictures of the Met Gala, but know whom you’re celebrating.
