Season 1 Episode 7 - Pray and Philosophy During this episode, we have a casual conversion on prayer and philosophy. We attempt to bridge philosophy and prayer while exploring the the Philosophy of prayer through discussion. We reference Immanuel Kant, Bertrand Russell, and a Jewish Rabbi Dovid Gotthlieb. We talk about the atheist and agnostic view of prayer and philosophy. Co-Host: Britton Frost is the oldest of three, Henry and Allen Frost. He is the son of Eileen and William Frost. Britton received a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy from the University of New Orleans and a Masters of Philosophy from the University of Buckingham, UK. Britton is an odd ball but a great friend. Britton and I were friends from 'diaper' days, well technically not from diaper days but we have been friends for 23 years. Britton has a few jobs, one is as Motorsports Stewart. Britton will began as an adjunct instructor at Baton Rouge Community College in the fall of 2019 teaching philosophy. Podcast Episode Summary: As we discuss philosophy and prayer, we look at statements made by people who spoke on prayer and we give our take on the two topics. We explore one question, does prayer have a point? We slightly go off script if you will, but we grasp the concept of prayer and philosophy. Contrast of Science & Religion Philosophy has both Religion and Science Incorporated within Prayer & Meditation Atheist Notable Quotes: "Meditation removes all unconsciousness and you focus on your thoughts " - Britton Frost "I hate the American Dream, for the American Dream is boastful and sinful but a life of prayer is a way of life and acknowledgment to a creator God" - Brandon Queen Recommended Resources: Here are some recommended resources for your personal growth and enjoyment. Season 5 - Episode 4: Lydia – The Working Woman Synopsis: The central theme of this episode is to convince you, the listeners that Ordinary Christians Do Matter. As we read in this chapter, ordinary people in fact have for more impact for Christ than they realize. As humans, we seek prestige and fame and often lose sight of our purpose as Christians. It can be depressing to hear what a person would do today to look or feel attractive. We have to remember that we are accepted for who we are, as we are and we are made in the image of Christ for a purpose. If we can remain in Christ and seek our purpose from him, then we too can be as effective as Lydia. Tune into this teaching segment as we learn how Silas fit the role of Sidekick to the Apostle Paul. Matthew Everhard 30:10 Well, I mean, let's be really honest. Some people have some really awesome gifts. You know, there are certain people that they have an intellect or a leadership characteristic about them that it's just so wonderful maybe even great with a lowercase g you know, only God is great, right? Right. But some people have some truly gifted personalities and abilities and certainly those people, they should be the alpha nothing wrong with that. But there is a you know, there's a heart issue there too. And I'm afraid that sometimes great giftedness comes with it, the Achilles heel of great pride. And if you can ever find a person who's both great and humble man, you know, grab onto that person and don't let go because if they're Both great and humble in this person is going to do amazing things in the world. But a lot of people that have some kind of greatness, you know, they're also there. They struggle with arrogance and pride and self-centeredness. And that can be a real thorn. And real thorn in the flesh.
Brandon Michael Queen 31:15 Right now, I'm gonna throw a name out there. You said great and humble at the same time. And no, it's not you. But I'm thinking of J.T.
Matthew Everhard 31:23 doesn't qualify for either. Right, right.
Brandon Michael Queen 31:26 But I'm thinking of JT Holderman. You know, just that his his meekness, you know, he, yeah, to my listeners. Now. I'm gonna give him a plug real quick, because this guy is amazing. He's also Yeah, he's also somewhat of a writer. But lately he's been using his hands to build things. Now. Matt, as you and I are talking I am using one of the clipboards that he built using pieces of wood for writing notes and stuff.
A Gift Worth The Wait
Rev. Ryan Mowen delivers a powerful messages during the season of Advent at Atonement Presbyterian Church. Rev. Mowen talks God’s glory once filling the temple of Israel and how they were a shadow of who the once were. Scripture: Luke 2:22-38
And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord") and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, "a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons." Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, "Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel." And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him. And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed." And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. https://AtonementLife.sermon.net/main/main/21505706
