Dark Arts, Tea And The Smell Of Books It has been a while since my last shoot, so why not make the most of it. Here’s a bit of retro occultism for the times of isolation!
Discernment Pro Tips
from someone who has been doing it for a hot minute.
With divination in general, whether from yourself or others:
If everything you keep using to discern with keeps pointing to no, it’s probably a no.
Conversely, if everything keeps pointing to a yes, it’s probably a yes.
99 no’s and one yes doesn’t make a yes.
If your answers keep coming back hazy or wishy-washy, there is probably a reason and you should figure that reason out before moving forward.
There is nothing wrong with giving a spread to a more experienced diviner and asking for their input on the meaning of the cards.
When you ask someone else for input, actually listen to them.
Remember that being wrong is not a sin or inherently bad. We’re all wrong sometimes.
Within divination you do yourself:
Be aware of confirmation bias. We all have it, and its hard to cut through. Cut through it as best as you can.
To counteract the fact that memories can shift and change, it’s better to write down what you think happened before you start to delve into divination or discernment. That way, you won’t inadvertently influence memories or shift things.
Use multiple formats of discernment or divination if possible.
When in doubt, give it more time. Time is one of the easiest ways to prove if something is legit or not.
With outside divination:
If you’re going to get a divination done from an outside source, someone with a proven track record is best.
Similarly, getting multiple readings from ppl with proven records is best.
You can get a reading from someone without a proven record, but make sure you don’t place all of your weight into that reading.
Don’t place all of your weight into any reading. That saying about eggs and baskets is relevant.
Blind readings are always a better bet.
Key word: blind. This includes how you phrase your query.
“I need to know why my god suddenly hates me” is not a good “blind” query. “I would like to know more about the status of my relationship with my god” or “I would like more insight as to the recent shift in my relationship with my god” is better.
Keep in mind that if you’ve placed all of your recent “woo” in a public source, someone can use that to infer information about your situation.
If your diviner needs to ask a lot of probing questions before they give you answers, walk away.
If your diviner gives you answers, and you tell them that it’s not accurate, which causes them to start bringing out “new information” that diverges from previous answers and wasn’t present before the extra details, walk away.
Be careful what information you give after the fact as well. It’s very easy to infer a lot of things simply based off of basic statements. The less information you give, the easier it will be to write the reading off as being accurate and unbiased.
this has been a thing.
Kill Your Deadname 🔪🔪
Banishment and Binding Curse
💀 Black salt - protection • casting out evil • cleansing
💀 Pepper - curse • Banishing • binding • protection
💀 Cayenne Pepper - seperation • protection • strength • curse
💀 Chili Flakes/dried chili - curse • banishment • energy
💀 Thorns - protection • banishment • energy
💀 Rusty Nail/s - curse • protection
💀 Broken Glass - curse • banishment • protection
💀 Graveyard Dirt - banishing • breaking habits • curse • healing
💀 Black Candle - protection • banishment • negative energy
💀 Black Twine/Yarn - protection • banishment • binding
Light the black candle.
Write your deadname on black paper with a black pen, then tear it up. Put the torn scraps in the jar.
In the jar, layer in the black salt, graveyard dirt, peppers, broken glass, thorns, and rusty nail/s.
Seal shut and tie the black Twine around it.
Pour the candle wax over the jar while saying;
"This name no longer holds me;
This name is not a part of me.
Bind those who utter this filth,
Purge this evil from their mouth.
Banish this name from my life,
I am 'X' in this light."
Once done, lock it away in a dark and forgotten place. Or, if you are able, bury it in or around an abandoned building.
Be careful when dealing with rust or sharp objects! Wear safety gloves and goggles when preforming this spell!
The Signs as Something Else II:
Aries: The antique shop that never had anyone working the desk.
Taurus: The children in grey masks that seem to flee when you notice them.
Gemini: The smell of mold in the play place. The mismatched eyes that watched you from behind the drainage grate.
Cancer: The whispering that would start when you stayed late at school. Checking your phone for messages from your parents.
Leo: An area reserved for a party. The sudden sense you should not speak. You leave quickly, without meeting any eyes.
Virgo: The buses full of people that run past midnight.
Libra: What sounds uncannily like deep, booming, laughter from the woods at night.
Scorpio: The thin grey thing with sunken eyes you only saw for a split second. You are sure it was drinking from your coffee.
Ophiuchus: Dreams of an expensive gated home you have never seen before. Waking before you can open the attic door.
Sagittarius: The warped things you see after a night of no sleep.
Capricorn: A woman that passed you in the street. How your blood ran cold. How the feeling faded only moments later.
Aquarius: The road has been closed for years. Some nights the signs are gone.
Pisces: Waking up to a wholly different place. Blinking, and its gone. You’re back.

🌟Twilight Fairies🌟
After a full day, ordinary daytime slips into an otherworldly realm of twilight; this is the most mystical hour. Here in this time and space where it is no longer day but not yet night, Twilight Fairies dance, play, flutes, and bless the oncoming night. Eventide approaches, and Twilight Fairies, though not rambunctious or loud, are excited to accept the decline of the sun-filled day because the night is given to mysteries and dreams. The Fairy Queen is sure to emerge or witness Twilight Fairies caper in their starry robes and moonbeam caps of creamy glowing white.
(ART LINK) - Margaret Morales
🌟 How Twilight Fairies Help Us 🌟
These sweet, playfully curious and furtive fairies want to draw us out of routines, lighten our beleaguered woes, and cool us in the soft shadows of our innate goodness. Twilight Fairies want us to draw near one another, to whisper kind thoughts and keep a sense of mirth, no matter what the day had brought. Fairies of Twilight surround us with excitement mixed with holiness as we give over to the moon rising.
🌟 How To Connect With Twilight Fairies 🌟
If you’d like to blend with the Fairies of Twilight, know that they invite you to their celebration. Drawing near to this magical space and time, it is best to go outside and watch the light as it changes, to see the sun go down and notice the way the trees, leaves, grass, and water transform in a wonderfully, almost eerie way. Invite friends and family over and set up a twilight dinner table outside (in warmer weather) using only candles for lighting and you’ll experience the enchanting sweetness of Twilight Fairies, as all of your sense the intimate thrill of the waning day, marveling at the approach of the night.

So, you want to be a witch?
It can be easy to feel super overwhelmed when you’re first starting off. This post is for very new witches who have limited knowledge and would like a broad overview! These are my opinions, feel free to disagree but be polite about it.
Spells:
It’s okay to start by using other people’s spells and build the confidence to write your own! Spells can be spoken, or thought (in my opinion). Sometimes speaking spells into existence isn’t always possible.
Casting circles. Many witches cast circles to do spellwork. It involves calling energy from the four directions and building the “omph” to preform the spell. Most of these involve calling upon a deity/deities but you could easily alter them to avoid this, it is not necessary.
Ingredients. The most important ingredient for a spell is… you! Most spell ingredients can be substituted with more common ingredients. A general guide is: clear quartz = any crystal, basil = any herb, rose = any flower.
Names:
Many witches feel names hold power.
I personally choose to not share my birth name/everyday name for both this reason, and to protect my privacy. A lot of witches choose a witch name (mine is Mouse!)
Wards:
Wards are something that I feel are very important for any witch to have. They can be on your being and on your home, and protect from undesired energy and spirits. Picture them as a shield.
Warding yourself. For me, my wards are my armor. I envision armor forming around me with specific forms of protection and use my energy to make it so. You could also view your ward as a bubble of energy! If you have a hard time with envisioning things, carry something physical (a necklace, crystal, etc.) as your ward.
Warding your home. Again, you could envision it (however you like). I picture light washing over the floors, walls, and ceilings and use my energy to guide it. I also have physical wards. An example would be to make a paper pocket, fill it with herbs, crystals, and sigils, and place in the four corners of your home.
Sigils:
I simply adore sigils, they are like little spells in a physical form (symbols). It’s okay to use sigils created by others.
Sigils are created with a certain phrase in mind, such as “I am happy”. You can then draw them on yourself or on something to carry with you.
Once drawn, you’ll need to do something to activate it. This can be done by forgetting about it, using your energy, or fun things like using the elements or your favorite song. To keep the sigil working, you’ll need to charge it every once and a while. This is the same idea as activating it!
Cleansing:
The ability to cleanse your space and yourself can be extremely valuable, whether it’s in preparation for a spell, or to get rid of the funk of a bad day.
Smoke cleansing. Can be done with sage, bay leaves, or any type of incense. Waft the smoke over yourself or your space.
Water cleansing. I enjoy making a spray with some lovely herbs (like lavender and mint) and spritzing my room or myself.
The elements/natural world. The wind, the moon, the sun and many other things can act to cleanse as well.
Divination:
Divination can be overwhelming at first - there’s so many different types! You don’t need to practice divination to be a witch, and you certainly don’t need to learn all of the ways!
Tarot. Tarot cards are cards that have drawings on them and an assigned meaning (usually more than one). They are often used as a way to get advice. The average deck has 78 cards, and a lot of us still use cheat sheets!
Pendulum. Pendulums are often depicted as a crystal hanging from a string, but they can be anything hanging from a string. Different movements mean yes, no, and maybe. Some people use them to communicate with spirits, but this only happens when you invite them.
Runes, scrying, and tasseomancy are also common forms of divination, but ones I am less familiar in!
Tools:
Crystals, candles, tarot, incense, herbs. All tools.
They all can boost your abilities and aid your craft, but are not needed. You have all the tools you need in yourself, and in your life. Don’t feel pressured to spend a lot of money on fancy tools right away! It can be beneficial to build your abilities without them, in my opinion!
Using your intuition can lead you to finding/creating some really awesome tools and methods! Let your instincts guide you.

Fairy Etiquette and Interactions
I’ve seen some questions on here about how to interact with the fae and why there are certain customs so I made a post. When interacting with the fae you must learn the proper manners and customs just as you do when going about your day to day life or visiting a different country. The Fae have very different morals, customs and social behaviour than us and can get offended very easily.
1. Do not say THANK YOU! This admits that you are in debt to them and they will expect that you pay them back. Debts and contracts can get messy with the Fae, even dangerous.
2. Do not give them your real name! Especially your full name because this gives them power over you. Instead use your witch name or fake name… say “you may call me *blank*” because you technically aren’t lying to them.
3. Do not accept food or drink from them! As the myth of Persephone and Hades states, eating the food of the faerie realm will forever tie you to that world.
4. Do not mention a new born! Faeries are very fond of children and you may end up with a changeling. Faeries may also mess around with your kid sometimes and curse them if you make them mad.
5. DO NOT LIE!As it is believed faeries cannot lie, they do not like being lied to but if you have to, twist your words to get them to believe you but Do not lie! I wouldn’t risk twisting your words too much because they are masters at this and can see right through, I would only attempt if you are very well spoken.
6. Always keep your promise! Promises are very sacred to the fae and hold a lot of power so if you break a promise, expect there to be some angry faerie cursing you.
7. Do not accept a gift! This also admits debt to them and they will expect something in return of equal or greater value.
8. There’s always strings attached!Don’t expect to make contracts with the fae and not have to worry about loopholes because they love twisting their words so you end up with the short end of the stick
9. Don’t be a loud mouth! If a fairy bestows a blessing upon you, you shouldn’t go around telling people about it because it may just turn sour.
10. Don’t be a snoop! Respect a faerie’s privacy because they value their privacy a lot and they don’t trust humans often so if you lose their trust…oh boy you’re in for something alright.
11. Don’t dance! Dancing with the fae, to faerie music or in the fae realm often ends in stories of dancing to your death.
12. Absolutely no Iron! Cold iron weakens and repels the fae, to carry iron while interacting with the fae will offend the crap out of them.
13. Debts will always be repayed! If you do something of service to the fae there will often be a reward but remember rules 1 and 9.
14. Do not say SORRY! Again this admits being in deep debt to them.
15. Always be the utmost polite to them! The fae may not always be the nicest but they are always well spoken, well mannered but also see themselves as higher than you, so treat them with the most respect and get on their good side.
Stay safe my dears
-Moonlight🌙
I don’t usually soap-box, but I’m going to for a hot sec since this has been on my mind:
Cults are getting better branding, prettier leaders, hipper-sounding cosmologies, and wider reaches due to social media. They’re not all deity-focused. Thoughtful, intelligent people can get sucked into them. Just…stay safe out there, guys. Do your research, look at all your options, and trust your gut, not your guru.
I’m glad this is resonating with people.
I do want to emphasize, again, that cults (and toxic groups with cult-like attributes, I’m using this term pretty loosely) don’t usually look like what you’d expect. A lot of toxic and dangerous religious movements are tiny and you won’t find much about them via Google. Cultish non-religious movements are the same way.
Start-ups, multi-level marketing companies, activist groups, fan groups, political groups, and internet gurus who run retreats can all be cult-like and dangerous. Tune your BS detector, ask family, friends, and experts for advice.
Here are some warning signs:
Pressure – pressure to make quick decisions, to give (or pledge) considerable amounts of money, to move in with a group, to abandon family or cut off friends. Elevated Leaders – anyone claiming special insight, special powers, or that they aren’t human. Demanding special treatment (compared to other followers). Misuse of funds or money collecting at the top. physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse. Lack of accountability or oversight. Isolation – encouraging (or requiring) members to cut off family relationships, friendships with those outside of the group, leaving jobs, moving to isolated areas, taking away communication methods. Strong “us-vs-them” mentality. Vilification of ex-members. Love-bombing. Altered states of consciousness – long work hours, sleep deprivation, lack of access to adequate food or water. Otherwise unproblematic activities like meditation/prayer/chanting, but done for hours. Discouraging doubt – discouraging or punishing doubt and critical thinking.
