So, I am deep in the comic making process, so I thought I’d share some of my favorite expressions from the cast

A series of random drawings:

1) that first one was in response to a gif a friend sent me (pictured), and I was like, oh my god it’s Vycer and Forseth

2) prompt: an OC in a maid outfit

3) Forseth reading a book to two of his three future children, with a pregnant Crissa asleep on his shoulder. Eileen, his eldest daughter, puts his hair into pigtails, and has painted his nails.

4) Forseth asleep mid-story as his kids all are asleep around him. Crissa, spotting this, thinking that it was too quiet.

Sariel & Aster

Serin is a vampire monarch, having his own coven and everything. He’s a bit prissy, and is rather demanding. He sired Brek.

Aster (on the right) is a much more grounded individual. He’s Serin’s right hand man, but generally the brains in the entire operation. While Serin also sired him, he shares a rather tight bond with him that goes beyond normal romantic connections.

Full disclosure, I got busy with work and then deep into comic work, so I will try and get some art up here again, as well as some lore and what not!

I just realized that I never actually shared these!! I am shocked.

Anyway… I decided to sit down and actually work on “maps” and blueprints so that I kept placements consistent. I will continue to make more as I think about it.

Haniel

Age: Early 20s | Element: Light | Angel | Medical Wing - Doctor

Haniel is an angel that originally came from the Upper Plains/Paradise portion of the Light Realm. She serves in the Medical Wing of the military, and although that particular division is a part of the Alliance, she serves individuals enlisted in both the Alliance and Legion.

Haniel is fairly straightforward. She doesn't sugarcoat anything that she says, and is honest. Her reasoning is that she wants her patients to receive the truth at the get-go, and not have someone who will skirt around what needs to be said, but the manner of which she says things can be off-putting. Due to this, she comes across as cold and unfeeling, even though she is quite the opposite.

Her way of speaking stems from her time spent in the Light Realm.

Despite all of this, Haniel is a curious individual, and incredibly intelligent, finding new ways to heal someone faster than any other medic in the Medical Wing.

She often disagrees with Dr. Cray, as he favors research and academic trials, and she would rather use methods that best serve the patient, not science.

Haniel works often with Keits in the Legion, who will refer to her as his assistant (and she doesn't argue. She finds it rather humorous)

Avras

Age: 24 | Element: Fire | Human | Medical Division Agent in the Alliance

This is a reaaaaally early release of this character, who doesn't appear until MUCH later into The Elementals story (like, close to the end).

Avras is a sweet individual who has one dream: he wants to help people. He primarily serves in the Medical Division within the Alliance, but is more of a researcher than a doctor. As such, he conducts field research and spends little time actually on Alliance grounds. His alternate outfit (the one with more black/grey) is one that he wears when he's out on the field, as it helps him blend in more than his normal outfit.

Some slight Spoilers:

Avras enters the story about 15-20 mortal years after the end of Someone to Watch Over Me.

Avras is the love interest for Forseth's daughter, Eileen, who is four years his junior (and is a civilian, not a member of the military like her parents).

Avras will eventually learn to speak Sign Language, as Eileen is an individual with selective mutism.

Nazir

Age: n/a | Element: Water/Ice (maybe) | Demi-God | Head of the Shadow Army Nazir is the primary villain of the Someone to Watch Over Me story arc, but he does play a role in other stories as well.

Nazir is anything but lovable. He's arrogant, cocky, and highly pretentious. In other words, he's full of himself. Even the individuals that serve him know that they are beneath him - their aim is to serve him and his goals.... and his goals belong to that of his father's.

Nazir's purpose is one thing: to cause and be chaos. He is the reason why realms fall apart, why uncertainty begins to settle in the hearts of those that follow the Elementals. He is the root of all problems, or at least he makes himself out to be that way.

(he's one of those characters that is not redeemable in any shape, way, or form. Just an FYI. There is no "but I can change him!!")

As a side note:

I actually struggled quite a bit coming up with his outfit design. I didn't want it to be super similar to the outfits in the Alliance (so like Forseth's actual espionage outfit), but that's what I ended up with haha!

There is a lot about Nazir that I do not want to share just yet, as it is a spoiler for the comic. But do know that Nazir is half-siblings with Eden, another character that appears in The Fallen arc. He's much older than her, and has been around the Realms for a loooong time (although he doesn't seem it).

Element Sigils

These symbols exist in two forms: one, they are the symbol of the realm that they exist in, and two, they are the sigils that appear on the souls of the Elementals chosen by Fate.

Sigils on the souls?

Yes - when an individual has been chosen to be an Elemental, their soul will bear this marking. However, not just anyone can see the marking. When an individual is chosen, they will be able to see it in their own reflection (side note: it doesn’t have to always be visible to them when they look at themselves lol). But how will people know that they are telling the truth? Typically speaking, the current sitting Elemental will be able to sense and see their successor. There cannot be more than two individuals with the Elemental Sigil on them, but there cannot be more than one current sitting Elemental. A successor can take on the role of Elemental under certain circumstances:

The Current Sitting Elemental (Predecessor) dies, thus the role is given to the Successor.

The Current Sitting Elemental (Predecessor) renounces their role and title of Elemental, allowing the Successor to take on the role.

When a Successor is identified, it is not always a death sentence for the Predecessor (although, some Realms do believe that). The Successors aren’t always announced to the world, out of their own protection. Additionally, Predecessors do not always have a say in who their Successor is, as it is something predetermined by Fate itself. (And, as Haseo would put it, Fate is something that cannot be tampered with. Things always have a way of occurring, not matter how hard you try to change it. Otherwise, if one thing is changed, something else must happen.)

Can a Successor denounce their role?

It is uncommon, but yes.

When someone is identified as an Elemental, they are given an opportunity to accept or denounce their role. It doesn’t remove the marking from them, it just means that Fate will end up continuing the cycle. There are a few characters in the story who denounce their role and try to live a normal life as best they can.

The problem is that Elementals are believed to be the pinnacle of their elemental power. While this isn’t always the case, Elementals are, by design, some of the most powerful creatures, just short of the gods themselves.

There isn’t really a special phrase or ceremony to “awaken” the sigil, although by tradition, the Realms each host an “Awakening,” a ceremony to honor and recognize a new Elemental. When a Successor accepts their role, their sigil becomes more prominent to those around them, allowing more people to actually see the sigil on their soul when their power surges. If the Predecessor is still living, the sigil becomes dimmer on their souls once the Successor rises.

Basically, it’s a whole “spiritual” thing about accepting one’s self and the role they play.

Now, that all being said… there are certain individuals who purposefully don’t announce that they are the Elemental, most specifically the Mind Elementals. When this character is revealed, they are the first to point out that Mind Magists are paranoid individuals by default - to have someone more powerful than them is a terrifying concept because that means that they can not only overpower their own powers, but they can read EVERYTHING. Thoughts, intentions… and yes, sometimes the future. Individuals with that much power are perceived as a threat.

But the Mind Realm is just one of those circumstances. And the idea that their people would come after them is also paranoia to the highest degree. (The Current Sitting Mind Elemental chooses to hide their identity for a multitude of reasons, namely because they witnessed the death of the previous Mind Elemental, and because they fully recognize that if they are captured, their own power could be used against them by those who seek chaos).

Who can see the Elemental Sigils?

Aside from the Successors and the Predecessors being able to see each other’s sigils, there are a few other individuals that can:

The Greater Gods (Xavier - God of the Heavens, Isynea - God of the Middle Realms, and Rikiru - God of the Afterlife)

The Lesser Gods (Attar, Leviathan, Asmodeus, Belial, Mikhael, and Mephistopheles)

The God of Time and Fate (unknown)

Din (who can see the Threads of Fate)

Anyway. I had fun trying to design these, considering that patterns are not my strong suit!

As progress continues on the first issue of Someone to Watch Over me, I realized that I was opening and closing various images to try and get the heights of characters accurate, especially as they relate to Forseth. Forseth is just oppressively tall, and one of the only other characters that’s taller than him is Huntz.

I realize that I didn’t put Nazir or Din on this… but they too are taller than Forseth. And Propitheus. But I do actually have a height chart with Propitheus on it alongside Forseth, so I didn’t feel the need to add him on there.

I have to laugh at how tall Forseth is, just because makes someone of average height look tiny. I think I had Forseth set at over 7ft originally, but I took away some of that height when revisiting his design. There’s a large part of me that’s like, HE TOO SHORT, and then I remember that by human standards, he’s pretty tall already. And just a massive person.

The Elementals

Okay but this took me forever to finish. I started this back… in June? I don’t remember. But I remember thinking that I should do some promotional art for the entire universe. I was going to wait on completing this until I had all of the Elementals themselves all designed out… and then I didn’t.

There are a bunch of characters on this. Some of them are the Lesser Gods, some are the Elementals themselves, others are villains, and some are other really important characters that either have their own stories or have so,e sort of pivotal role in the overarching story.

Once I finished this and posted it on my Bluesky, I realized that I left out two very important characters… the one I refer to as “The Narrator,” and Taiko. Oh well lol
