Her heart sank into her shoes as she realized at last how much she wanted him. No matter what his past was, no matter what he had done. Which was not to say that she would ever let him know, but only that he moved her chemically more than anyone she had ever met, that all other men seemed pale beside him.

Who needs friends when they have morals?
If you don't like the things I post on social media, you are more than welcome to unfriend me. If you believe that the posts I share are too "extreme" or graphic for you're viewing pleasure, feel free to unfriend me; trust me, this will come at absolutely no cost (if at all any recognition) to me. But if you don't, anticipate my posts to enlighten you more and more every day regarding the violent and psychotic nature of your insistent corpse-devouring habits. I will not stop publicizing the things that human gluttony has cost the other poor inhabitant who are forced to share space with the plague that seems to be human nature. I am tired of remaining silent to protect your comfort. I use my voice to speak up for those who have none. In my opinion, "extreme" is not the vegan who opts to go against social norms- "extreme" is being made fun of for preaching nonviolence and sustainability while simultaneously being unable to avoid observing the mutilated corpse parts every place they attempt to go to purchase edible food. Yes, I am vegan, and any resulting jokes or comments regarding bacon that you insist on making upon my decision to try to shed some knowledge on the subject come off as entirely ignorant and totally unenlightened to me. "Wake up!" want to scream in your face, but that's not really the way to achieve it, I know. I believe in compassion and nonviolence, and I choose to try as hard as I can to reflect those beliefs in my every action I take; whether I succeed or not at least I can sleep at night knowing I tried my best. I encourage others to begin their voyage on the same path, no matter how small they start at least the end goal is the same. I believe that the path starts with knowledge, and because of that I will never stop sharing all of the brutal, bloody facts I myself discover. Whether it makes you uncomfortable or not. I conclude with the belief that if anything I say or post in regards to the way humans or meat-eaters treat their nonhuman animal counterparts angers, annoys, saddens or hurts you, you absolutely should not be consuming products derived from those practices. Actions speak louder than words, and if it were me being slaughtered for the overconsumption of unnecessary food-like items, I would want someone to act out.
If it were me being slaughtered
All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed; Second, it is violently opposed; Third, it is accepted as self-evident.
Arthur Schopenhauer (via purplebuddhaproject)
Mmm, Bacon.
My goal isn’t necessarily to turn the whole world vegan; rather, I understand that veganism would be part of the result of a truly enlightened society.
It is hypocritical and illogical to call oneself an animal lover while one continues to gnaw on the flesh of nonhuman animals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. “Love” is not abusing and murdering someone because you believe that your needs are greater than theirs. Love is altruistic, and love is everything. Love, rather than express sorrow and gratitude for the sacrifices made to get what one needs, would instead sacrifice oneself to save the other. Maybe it is this notion, etched deep into our minds and rooted up from the most vulnerable of us all, that has allowed violence, wars, and abuse of our fellow mankind to rage on at accelerated speeds.
It is silly to call oneself a feminist while one promotes the exploitation and abuse of the female body through her consumption of the eggs and milk that belonged to another mother, that were meant for another infant. If we took a second to reflect exactly how we vote when we spend our dollars, many of us would be disappointed in ourselves and the things we are actually saying. Money may be valueless in the grand scheme, but it is a measure of how much time we are willing to invest in in something. What are we investing our time in right now?
It is not wise to assume that one is “awake” when one cannot even expand their circle of compassion to those who need it most- to the most helpless, to the voiceless, to those whose rights have been infringed upon the most..
It is arrogant and egotistical to assume that evolution has anything to do with our current system of corporate greed, torture, and consumption, or that any of this is natural. “Natural” is not being raped and forced to give birth to someone else’s “dinner.” “Natural” is not a baby being ripped away from their mother and raised on antibiotics and fillers so that others may consume the milk that was produced for him/her (that isn’t Love, either.). “Natural” is not throwing a baby into a grinder for chicken nuggets, because as a male it is useless to the production of Christmas dinner next year. No mother in nature is ever milked to death. No dinner in nature is ever beaten and tortured from its conception ‘til its murder. No being in nature would recognize our system of consumption as natural or okay.
Even so, to assume that everything as the result of evolution is a positive attribute is a fallacy. To assume that because this system has come to be, we are entitled to take whatever we want and use whomever we please is an even more dangerous fallacy. If this system were an evolutionary peak for human beings, we would not be in the midst of a health crisis, an environmental crisis, a financial crisis. Our ice caps wouldn’t be melting, legitimately “natural” species wouldn’t be endangered or becoming extinct, our rain forests wouldn’t be shrinking, our air would be clean, and so would our bodies. We wouldn’t be seeing increased rates of heart disease, autoimmune disorders, and mental health disorders (particularly at younger and younger ages).
Our education system leaves much to be desired and our cellphones have connected us to everyone and disconnected us from everything. Violence in the streets is ever more prominent, the fight for women to have control over their own bodies is forging on with more force than ever, the war overseas is growing exponentially. This is not the path of a universal consciousness. And the roots lie buried where we can’t see- beginning with the way we are treating our most vulnerable and weak, the ones who are in desperate need of our compassion and protection.
But we aren’t listening to them, because “Mmm, bacon.”
I’m just here for the positive vibes.
