i know we talk about jealous hannibal sending the dragon after molly and “how’s the wife” of it all but that was really one of his most genius plans. he knew the way to ruin molly for will forever. he wasn’t just curious what would happen. the moment their house became a crime scene, she would be tainted forever, whether she survived or not.

Honestly, I see so many people saying that Hannibal saved Abigail in that particular moment for Will or out of curiosity, but...

Although Hannibal is driven by curiosity, I believe there is another, more prosaic reason.

Hannibal is a doctor.

In my country, people working in the fields associated with medicine (even massage therapists or physiotherapists) must provide medical help if they see there is something wrong with someone's medical condition, even if they are not at work, because otherwise they lose their license.

So if Hannibal, as a doctor who had been working in the emergency room as a surgeon for years, had not provided help, it would have been suspicious, especially since there was a witness (Will). If he didn't want to draw suspicion to himself, he had to help Will save Abigail's life.
