Ariel’s gave hardened at Tokyo’s name, her face filling with disgust. “I hope she killed the bastard.” Looking at Jack, Ariel sighed. “I knew Tokyo. He was a friend of my older brother’s. Good riddance. But that explains why she doesn’t want to see you… And why she’s so freaked out around guys.” Ariel just shrugged. “Well I told you about how Varg and my adoptive parents were abusive. Part of that was not feeding us at all. At one point it’d been about a week I think since either of us had eaten and he stole a crap ton of food from a market. The only other thing he’s really done was he held up a convenience store for money and food. Things got a little hairy on that one though. He ended up shooting the cashier in the leg. He had a mask on and left no finger prints so he never got caught. Other than that there was the occasional holding a knife to a stranger’s throat for money. We were starving kids though, I didn’t think much of it.”
Varg smiled. “Really? That’s awesome. You should keep doing it even if you’re not good at it. If it’s something you like it’s worth doing.”
Jacks frown deepened as he listened calmly. “You guys must have had it hard…” He said sympathetically. “I’m sorry.” He leaned in, his face hard and serious. “There’s something that Zanie doesn’t know though, because she ran off and had no way of knowing it, but… Tokyo lived and got away. And I’ve been looking for him ever since. “Ariel… I need all the help I can get. Even from thieves.”
Zanie shrugged deeming his words as fantasy bull. “No, I’m fine beinnbg a waitress.” Cough, cough… Criminal.
Ariel glared at Jack. "Do the stupid sympathy or pity or whatever thing again and I'm going to cut you. You're a cop, I'm a thief. If you feel bad for me it might interfere with your work right?" Ariel seemed a little bitter when she said that. Ariel smirked a bit. "Oh so you need a thief's help? Well considering I care about Zanie and I hate Tokyo as well so I'll help. Hmm... As long as when I pull the trigger you look the other way."
"Being a waitress doesn't mean you can't do it in your free time!" Varg said with a grin.
