Alice looked at the way that Rodolphus Lestrange was lazing in his office with a bitter taste in her mouth. Many people worked hard each and every day in order to try and progress through the ministry into higher positions, and here he was apparently relaxing in his office with not a care in the world. She had to wonder at what point did his last name become worth more than his own skill. The Blacks, the Malfoys, the Lestranges all had more money than sense - and more than enough money to throw around to land a position that they were unqualified for. How many top-level ministry officials ignored the behaviour of Lestrange and others like him because of the money they wielded?
Swallowing back that bitterness, Alice offered Rodolphus a tight smile. “Might I sit? Hopefully this won’t take long,” Alice nodded towards the chairs. “The auror department are trying to piece together the events at Puddletown by conducting interviews of various members of the public. I understand that you were seen at Puddletown, could you just give me a timeline of events please? What buildings you were in, what time you left Puddletown and did you witness any Death Eater activity first-hand?”
As Alice asked to sit, Rodolphus nodded, “Of course.” With wandless magic, he pulled out the chair for her to sit comfortably and made his way back to his own. Running a hand over his beard, Rodolphus sighed. What was this Auror doing here? He wondered over the thought, mulling it over. It had been quite some time since anyone had looked into him, making sure to keep a low profile and good cover. Even as a department head. But he did his work, did it well, and made sure his teams performed the absolute best that he could. If the numbers were down, someone paid. Greatly. The fear stepped them all in line, including himself. All to stay unsuspecting.
When she mentioned Puddletown, a memory flashed through his mind. All he remembered was that everything went black. And the amount of pain he had suffered. Still, he nodded to Alice, “I’m a rather large Quidditch fan, as are my colleagues, so of course I was seen,” he explained simply, reaching over, and grabbing a cup set on his desk. “But, unfortunately, there’s not much to tell.” Rodolphus gave a small shrug, “Someone fired at me. Not sure if they were a Death Eater or not. But I was gravely injured.”
