i’ve been distracted with my other blogs and have neglected this one and i feel awful for it but also at the same time i’ve felt a lot better over there?
I’ll still keep Ace of course. I love Ace and can’t get rid of him and if any of y’all want anything I’ll definitely hop back on but

au where furiosa tells ace her plan and gives him time to think it over (because i think the reason he lashed out at her was because she betrayed him as well, in a way ???) and he helps her in the journey.

Okay, I saw this at work and found it really tempting and have been chewing on the idea. I tend to enjoy writing fics that’s within the canon, altering things here or there, exploring thoughts of characters, elaborating on what happens off screen, adding in a character or two and seeing where that takes the plot, etc, so this was really appealing and might be something I try once I get my hand on a copy (for accuracy. God I can’t believe I have to wait three months!).
But I’m having a hard time reconciling the Ace that would agree to the plan and the Ace we see. Furiosa has a very different perspective than Ace, who may see what the war boys go through and feel bad, but also sees Immortan Joe as still a provider. Evil in his treatment of the war boys and a man posing as a god, but a provider nonetheless and the ultimate sayer in what happens to the other war boys. Furiosa on the other hand was stolen by this man, raped by this man, and probably done horrible things for this man including helping to hold captive women who were currently experiencing probably Furiosa’s worst trauma.
Ace, especially as old as he is, has the war boys as his priority. The more his character is explored, the more I believe this. Especially in light of him giving the V8 to Morsov. He’d probably understand where Furiosa was coming from, but he could never consent to having a hand in the deaths of the war boys. He also couldn’t try to recruit them. There’s just too many; one of them would have spoken up. They’re brainwashed; the reality of the situation is that given how many of them are, someone would feel the need to tell someone.
I can kind of see him going along with the idea being freeing his war boys of the brainwashing and giving them better lives, but he would have to face the reality that he would end up fighting some of them. Some of them would try to return the prisoners to Joe; some of them would try to kill Furiosa. Would he kill them? Would he stand by while Furiosa did? Maybe he would. Maybe he wouldn’t. (Also, all of those war boys would not have fit safely inside the rig during the sandstorm. What would he have done if he knew and found them riding into that sandstorm, unable to protect his war boys that maybe haven’t even had a chance yet to decide?)
But Furiosa would have had to have asked these questions about Ace too, and she would have had to have known that he would say yes, because I just feel like this is how she operates. So…. thoughts?
It was a tough decision for Furiosa, you can see her witnessing the deaths of her war boys in the rear-view mirror, she’s not above the shame and guilt she feels because of that. She knew there would be no right choice. Betraying Ace, who stands loyal to her for a very long time until he’s certain there’s something foul going on, wasn’t easy for her. When he questions her, she says nothing. She can’t even lie, “We’re heading east” she says.
If she had asked Ace to join her, she must have not only been sure, Ace and all of his war boys would follow her, but she would also take the risk to lead a bunch of brainwashed soldiers into her precious home, the Green Place. I think taking her toxic past to her place of hope was not something she could bring herself to do. Even though later she vouches for Nux and Max, she could not possibly vouch for like 10+ war boys who can become a threat very quickly.
Also, she can not be sure Ace’s war boys understand her goal. Ace might have knowledge about the world before the apocalypse, but the rest of the war boys probably know nothing about it and Immortan is the one who rules their world completely.
Even if Ace would follow her, he knew his war boy’s reaction would be unpredictable, since this decision touches their very believes. Ace would never kill one of his boys, no matter how hopelessly brainwashed they are, so he would be in a dilemma and I think Furiosa knew this and didn’t want to load him with a decision which ultimately was hers to make.
Yeah, I’d only just begun to touch on Furiosa giving Ace the option as I focused on Ace so much, but this is so on point. I think Furiosa could have been okay with Ace, at least. I also am inclined to think that she’d be of the mind that the Vuvalini (she believed at the time there would be a lot more of them) could handle 10 war boys, but I could see how it would be difficult to take that with her.
You’re not helping though. =P I wanted ideas on how to make this fic workable, and it’s just more and more not. I’m not saying someone couldn’t still do it; this kind of stuff is important for me when getting into a character’s head. I’m limited that way, and it is rather a limitation. There shouldn’t be any reason someone couldn’t still follow through; I just can’t fully understand and comprehend that character is all.
I would absolutely need to believe that the sandstorm wasn’t planned to do it. I don’t know if it could be, but the way it’s presented in the movie kind of makes it feel like it was. Maybe they happen every couple of days? Doesn’t really matter, I’d have to come from the angle that it wasn’t planned, because Ace wouldn’t accept that it would kill his men; that’s ultimately what made him turn on Furiosa in the movie (maybe that’s a bit of a headcanon, but it seems pretty concrete to me).

I mean I’m just extremely happy with any chance I get of seeing a character I’ve grown fond of that really only has a total of maybe ten minutes in the film.
Like, the fact he leads the chant means he IS of a much higher rank.
