Today I want to tell you a happy story. I recently had an author visit at J. B. Petit School for “The Story Circle”. The kids were really happy with the reading, and two days later at their PTM, their parents could come pick up signed copies of it. Now I’ll be honest. I didn’t know whether I should go. Like, how many kids would remember? How many parents would? I’ve done the whole stalls selling books before for “The First Storyteller” and “Believe” before, and the result has been depressing. But I underestimated myself. These young girls, literally dozens of them, all gave their parents strict instructions to buy the book. The kids who came for the PTM rushed in almost as soon as they stepped into the school to check whether my book was available. Their parents told me how much they had gushed about me when they were home. They were getting calls in front of me where their kids were repeating my name to them. I told a girl that if I became famous, then my signed copy would be worth a lot later. She folded her arms and said she would never sell it. It’s a big turnaround for someone who had thought he would never be able to write again. For someone who believed he would never find his audience. The audience finds you if you keep trying.
