So the thing you have to understand about doctor who the movie 1996 is that it isn't good. But it is the best film ever made. It has little to no outstanding qualities as a narrative and is such a wild read of doctor who that if you replaced a few proper nouns throughout it would just be a regular bad sci-fi movie. The fact the series survived it is the reason i'm not worried about canon or the shows future in the slightest. The pitch for it consists of some of the most insane lore retcons i've ever seen in my life, and the only major one to make it into the movie is generally considered so out of left field that people refuse to acknowledge it to this day. Literally nothing matters. The master is goo and also a lizard, seven gets gunned down in the street, paul mcgann is the first doctor to canonically get bitches. There's a motorcycle chase. Bad 90s cgi. the regeneration is a frankenstein reference. its camp. eight has his dogs out. it is somehow more american than you would expect. it features by far the best rendition of the main theme in the shows history. Who fucking cares man. 11/10

Mad that Maekar genuinely had the most peaceful reign in the last century of Westerosi history. Like this is not talked about enough, there were no major rebellions in those 12 years, no reports of famines or plague. My guys reign involved a long ass summer and getting crushed by a rock.

The most important line in Doctor Who (or one of them anyway) is the bit in Twice Upon A Time where theres just been a montage of the Doctor being a terrifying godlike merciless badass and he says "well they cut out all the jokes."
That is FUNDAMENTAL to understanding this show
Ok, but the Master in revival series 2-4 is actually hilarious. He was a kindly old man. Then he listened to a drumbeat too hard and turned evil. Then he won an election, became the Prime Minister, disintegrated the President of the United States, and plunged the world into a year-long apocalypse before dying in his century-long-enemy-situationship's arms just to spite him. Then he was resurrected as a middle-aged highschool boy with frosted tips who would jump into the air like an alien pogo-stick and immediately started eating people. He also had lightning powers. Then he turned the entire human race into himself, including Obama. I truly have no clue why he's like this or why the writers are like this, but it's truly a legendary chapter of Doctor Who history and I am here for it.

In the Context of Ancient Ritual Sacrifices
Heroically rescues the virgin sacrifice with style and charm:
Also rescues the sacrifice, but gives the sacrifice a thorough scolding about managing to get into this frightful pickle in the process:
Sneaks in disguised as the cult leader, throws back their hood, and gleefully sics the eldritch spirit that was summoned on the cult, before also rescuing the sacrifice. All persons involved think they're way scarier than the thing that appeared in the circle:
Still have marks from being chained to that marble slab:

i just thiiiiink. that the second destruction of gallifrey shouldn’t have been as devastating as the first. i think we should see pockets of time lords that survived and got worse about it. time lords that have sealed off their surviving areas, which should be heavily machine based, from the universe. time lords that decided democracy was the problem, that they were too transparent, that they needed to lie and hide more. time lords that decided that they were too merciful and that dissenters should be erased. time lords that got more xenophobic. time lords where the biological and the machine blurs further. time lords where what little privacy remained is gone. welcome to the techonofascist ultrasurveillance state of the future where immortality is guaranteed and invaders are immediately erased but their ghosts are turned into part of the protective programming.

(maekar grew up being affectionately bullied by his older brothers haha)
i’m a big fan of Time Lords. yeah they certainly do have two hearts. yep and two brain stems. and two stomachs. and four kidneys. and another ribcage. yeah that’s orange blood you’re seeing. yeah they haven’t really breathed in 5 minutes but honest they’re fine. no they’re not cold they always feel like that. they spoke to you a little too sweetly and looked into your eyes a little too deeply and now you wanna do their bidding? don’t worry about it
