Written while sleep-deprived read at your own cautionÂ
She had just gotten to her apartment, but she found herself unable to sleep. The Devourer was still out there, she didnât know if she could. Most of the people she knew were the kind that didnât die so easily, the fact they were gone, they were fallible was inherently kind of scary.Â
She moved to the fridge and examined it, there was some Mead left from the last celebration, everyone went and raided some gravesite. The drauger were strong, and some top buyer got himself a new shield. She didnât really want to admit it but the adrenaline was her favorite part. Â
The fights were fun but they were dangerous. She felt unbeatable freezing everything with a touch, but so often someone would get hurt protecting her. The others, the other kids of Loki she knew would call her Jinx a lot. Eventually, it became a nickname.Â
She picked up the bottle and closed the fridge. She stared at it as she sat on her bed, was it worth having a godly parent? Eurydice knew that others often had problems with their godly parents. But her? Loki would never betray her why would they? Loki was the one that had always been there for them.
She laid down on her bed, and wondered out loud âLoki why did you let them all die?â
A voice echoed through the darkroom, positive and familiar. âI didnât, that one is just getting too strong.âÂ
She sprung from her bed instantly, too see Loki sitting back turned to her on her torn-up old couch. âI could only pick one to protect my dear daughter, who else would I choose?â
âYou, my dear are a survivor, and thatâs what youâll keep doing like always.â Loki turned their faces around slightly.Â
The light was dark but even in the dark lighting, Lokiâs features changed at random as if someone was scrolling through presets on a character creator. Every once in a while, a familiar face that looked similar to one of her siblings would show up.
She felt sick to her stomach, she wanted to scream but she held it back. She downed the mead she held in one sitting. She had a high enough tolerance and really needed a boost to her confidence.
But, even so, she couldnât find any. âNow, now donât look at me with such harsh eyes. Eurydice I need you to know, as your number dwindle the pantheon has fewer and fewer choices.âÂ
She opened her mouth, and Loki paused. âI donât think I want to keep using Eurydice as my name anymore. Could you call me Jinx?â
âWanting to keep a safe emotional distance from the greeks? Sure thing.â Giving her a wry smile. She couldnât object, and she was pretty sure he knew.Â
She wanted a reminder using a nickname as a fulltime name seemed like a strong one.
They continued, âYour only going to get more and more opportunities to gain everyoneâs favor from now on. So keep your chin up, and do me proud.â
She kept her head up, âI think I might take a break from Quests for a little bit.â She said the alcohol finally helping a little bit.
Loki frowned, âWere still counting on you, I want you to know that.â
Their face shifted to one that looked distinctly like who they likely were when they meet her mom.
âI hope you can understand your importance last Nord.â The frown had morphed away when the face had changed. The expression didnât twist but where it sat still changed from a frown to a smile as the face changed.
It was uncomfortable to watch too say the least. Then she blinked, and Loki was gone. Was she really alone? Loki could be deceitful but why would they lie about this?Â
Jinx laid back down on her bed. She half-heartedly threw the bottle at a wall and it still shattered. She flipped over and wept into the pillow. Sheâd be asleep soon and it would be tomorrow before she knew it.
She couldnât help but think about it all night, âLoki just cared a lot right? They were a good parent, right? Everyone had the bad parent and the good parent... they saved her from the worse one, that made them the good parent right?â
