Peter Molyneux - GODUS
It was only a few days ago when we last heard about 22cans studio father figure - P. Molyneux and now The Man is back with another project. This time, as with many developers these days, he has turned to Kickstarter to seek funding. The game concept is - Godus a god game as we remember them from earlier era of gaming when Molyneux created the god game genre.
"It’s an innovative reinvention of Populous, the original god game and delivers exciting global co-operation, competition, creation and destruction to a whole new generation.."
Back in those days, I didn't much like that type of games. A normal strategy game was better any time but there certainly was a market for the power trip that Populous and other similar games offered.
Are the grandfathers of games design destroying the wonderful thing that Tim Schafer started - crowd funded games? There are some who think so and to be truthful I do too sometimes. The rapid expansion of suck projects on Kickstarter and other similar sites is over saturating the market. So far fans seem eager to share their wallet contents to just see their childhood favorite remade again. But its only a matter of time that all this collapses. For one thing fans are helping to make the game and get no part in the gains the game will later rake in. They act as investors but without most of the benefits that usually come with it.
The whole process is putting a damper on creative progress as well since all great minds seem to be bent on re-creating old games and ideas. So cause for concern is definitely there, but ultimately it all comes down to the market. As long as there is demand, there most certainly will be supply.

Aliens: Colonial Marines multiplayer trailer
Gamespot has a nice little trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines multiplayer. We can see different types of Aliens similarly to Left4Dead zombies, so thats nice and will add some variety to the matches definitely.

Hero Engine announces trees on the cloud
The Hero Engine (Star Wars The Old Republic) announced today that it has joined forces with the best tree guys out there - SpeedTree `
still not clear enough?
Alright, the Hero Engine is a game engine that is used to build games in, games like SWTOR and SpeedTree is a piece of tech that builds trees for many different games. Chances are that if you play games, you have at one time or another seen a tree created by SpeedTree.
These two have now joined forces to offer an all-in-one package for future developers. No longer do you have to worry about trees in your game if you are choosing to use the Hero Engine.
"We’ve created a powerful toolkit to create trees and vegetation for games and other visual applications,” says Kevin Meredith, Director of Business Development for Interactive Data Visualization, Inc., creators of SpeedTree. “The seamless integration of SpeedTree into the HeroEngine will make it extremely accessible to indie game developers, and we applaud Idea Fabrik’s efforts to equalize the playing field for game development."
Total Recoil mini review
Total Recoil is a brand new game available on iTunes starting from today. We got our hands on it a bit earlier this week and here is what we thought.
Total Recoil is an action shooter with a top-down view. It's a fun, no hassle shooter with ranks, weapon unlocks and perks. Yes perks, similarly to what we've come to expect usually from Call Of Duty titles.
The game consists of numerous levels that play out like horde mode matches from other games and in the end there would be a boss fight. There are many levels but one thing I noticed was that you need to start grinding very early on. The levels are unlocked at different rank levels the player can achieve by playing matches but after playing the first two maps I hadn't ranked up enough to unlock the 3rd map so I had to return and play the previous levels.
Gameplay is great, I was playing on the 4th generation iPod Touch and everything ran well. Shooting and collecting coins felt good. Calling in airstrikes was incredibly satisfying. Coins can be used to purchase upgrades and unlock new weapons between levels and it successfully creates this urge to get more coins just to unlock that next upgrade. There is an option to use real money to buy additional coins as a shortcut but it's never forced on the player and feels organically implemented to the game.
Visually the game suffers from low resolution and some weird design decisions for the game interface. In game text was sometimes difficult to read and certain pop-up messages after each game were just unnecessary. Action, level design and effects however look decent and I quite enjoyed the slow motion kills that trigger sometimes.
Overall it's not a bad way to spend $1.99 on the iTunes store. The amount of satisfying shooting action and gameplay you get for that money is a good value. The visuals could be better but gameplay is key and Total Recoil is fun to play.

Grand Theft Auto V trailer #2 nails it!
Absolutely NAILS IT. I'd even go as far as to say it's the most grand theft autoest trailer ever made. This world that Rockstar has created for GTA V looks alive and full of trouble. Lot's of story pieces were also revealed in the trailer. Is this is going to be the best GTA yet? I hope so, there is definitely cause to be excited.
Call Of Duty Black Ops II reviews are in!
Black Ops II will be an interesting entry into the Call Of Duty franchise for me. I usually finish COD sinlge player campaigns because they are good high action fun scenarios but I was never willing to sit through the Black Ops campaign. The multiplayer was brilliant but that campaign was not to my liking for various different reasons.
I'm interested to see how Treyarch have improved this time and am genuinely interested in the reviews. Here they are:

A Realm Reborn Final Fantasy XIV trailer
So here is a game that was so bad initially didn't meet the fans expectation, they had to pull it and go back to the drawing board.
Another pretty pre-rendered trailer about young adventurers and some drama.

Gamers, meet The Elder Scrolls Online
Elder Scrolls Online starts it's marketing with an introduction video. The developers speak about the game and say why they made it and for who. Definitely worth a watch, it's interesting to see them bring Elder Scrolls to the MMO scene.
There are bound to be fans who think this is a bad idea but also fans who think this is the next logical step for the Elder Scrolls franchise.
"Check out our first video of The Elder Scrolls Online—a documentary-style introduction to the game, presented by members of The Elder Scrolls Online Development Team. This video covers the basics of ESO, including a first look at the game's Elder Scrolls-style combat system, massive PvP battles, Megaserver technology, exploration-based content, and much more. Now, for the first time, you'll get to see why we believe that The Elder Scrolls Online will be the next big online RPG."

Angry Birds Star Wars available everywhere
UPDATE: added launch trailer
It didn't take long for Rovio to grind out Angry Birds Star Wars and playing it its apparant why. It's as I feared - just a reskin of the original game with some added gimmicks.
It's still Star Wars though and it's free so I suppose no one can be too angry at it.

What makes Heroes & Generals an interesting game?
Heroes & Generals is greenlit on Steam, the game will appear on Steam store but why? Well the obvious answer is that the community wills it so. More specifically though it probably has to do with the immense scope of the game.
You can play it anywhere and in multiple different ways. I like this. This is important. As we get older and get more demanding jobs and careers. As family life takes center stage, we sacrifice our massive gaming benders and focus on the important stuff, like fixing the roof and remembering anniversaries.
Gaming however will remain a secret passion for many so Heroes & Generals offers a superb solution. Play the same basic game but differently. It's an fps shooter, a LARP and a strategy game on your touch device - all controlling the same game. And it's all WWII themed, sold yet? Well check out this slightly awkward trailer:
